  • pally tanking = just stand there and look gay and all mobs will attack you

  • @Rasmusmeda THIS COMMENT MADE MY DAY!!!

  • What addons do you use? what is the moveable minimap addon called?

  • @zion251 sexymap

  • What addons do you use?

  • I have to disagree in a certain aspect on your 2+ mob rotation. SoR is very powerful single target but is only that, single target. Also, seeing as consecrate works like a dot that works over time it is best to put it down as soon as you have some snap threat on all the targets. By snap threat, I mean that it will keep off the healers and a couple hits from dps. Therefore on a pull where you hit every target with Avenger's shield, use consecrate right away since you have coming to you.

  • @IRdatank the 2+ rotation I spoke of had AS, HoR, HS, SoR, and then Consecrate. HoR does more dps/threat off the bat, and gives you less chance of mobs being pulled away for you. HS continues to build threat because the mobs damage themselves as they attack you. If you put consecration in place of SoR you will be breaking 6969 rotation. Also, if you consider chain pulling, it's best to always hold off on Consecrate because most dps will start to attack once they see you consecrate.

  • @88Baylor In my experience, dps don't tend to care when you happen to consecrate. And in my 2+ rotation (assuming I hit all the mobs with AS) I do follow the 6969 rotation: Consecrate, HoR, HS, SoR, Judge and so on. However, this is merely a coincidence, since I don't find it necessary to maintain a consistent rotation in aoe. I form more of a priority system than a rotation, since two of the abilities in the rotation aren't affecting all targets.

  • great vid. only 1minute through so far and i can tell

  • Very helpful! Thanks. :-)

  • what glyphs are the best?

  • need help a little here :D

i need gear before i get to tank becaus i have a defence ratin of 523 and i want it to be def cap for heroics ofc :D please help how to get my gear ASAP :D

  • @Debmb There's a lot of gear you can get by completing chain quests in various areas that will help you achieve cap. Some of them are dungeon quests, like DTK and Gundrak, and Utgardge Keep. You should be able to tank those. Also The auction house lists a lot of gear that helps you gear up as well. Other than that, Cue as dps, and farm for badges. Try to get one of your guildies to take you on a few runs. Finally once you've got def cap, don't forget to cap your hit and expertise for threat

  • @88Baylor THANKS !!!

  • @Debmb Also a good way to jump up to the defcap is a trinket found in normal mode Halls of Lightning. It drops off of Loken the last boss and has a shitton of defense rating on it. This is perfect since, it's a normal mode meaning that you don't really need to be defcapped.

  • Really great video... helped me out ALOT thanks!

  • Just to compliment you on this very fine vid which contains next to all tanking essentials. Should be a must for all (new) tanks since I'm constantly shocked by the amount of players that never heard of an LOS pull, let alone when or how to apply it.

Trying to tank on a pali for a change and looking for a sound rotation etc., this has been most helpful. Brilliant work, thank you!

  • Great vid. two questions here:

1- why yr mana is running low?

2- is there any other way to pull multiy mobs of seperated casters other than LOS ? example : HOR mobs ?

  • @darked777

    1. Mana is low because I am soloing these instances on normal mode for demonstration purposes. As you probably know, a big chunk of mana regen is generated through heals due to our Spiritual Attunement ability. In addition, due to recording, I forgot to cast Divine Plea.

    2. An alternate method I will use if I have problems with the los pull in HoR is to have CC on both the mobs in the far left and far right, regardless of casters. The 3 sec silence from AS will bring a caster to you.

  • @88Baylor exactly i though jeez come on i justwanted to asnwer this question but then i saw yoursrs :D

  • I'm sure I posted a 3rd question. Not sure what happened to it. I was asking a bit off topic if paladins still go for 104.5% combined avoidance+block to ensure no unmitigated/unavoided hits landed. With crushing blows being effectively removed, is that still worth shooting for, or even possible?

  • Very helpful vid. Thank you. As someone who's used to looking at things from a healer's perspective & hasn't played a protadin since BC, I have some questions.

    1) Approximately how often do you have spare cooldowns so that you can cast abilities that aren't tied to your threat rotation, such as Divine Plea & Sacred Shield (assuming no other paladins in the group)?

    2) Does it hurt your mitigation much to not prioritize Holy Shield & refresh it ahead of something else?

    (to be continued)

  • Oniphire, thanks for the response. To answer your questions,

    1. Divine Plea and Sacred Shield are best used before combat and in between pulls. Once Divine Plea is up, it refreshes at 100% every melee hit, so one doesn't need to cast it that often if they keep chain pulling.

    2. Holy Shield also can be cast outside of rotation before pulls. In addition, the use of Hammer of Righteous actually helps with mitigation because it brings in mobs that were not hit by Avenger's Shield.

  • @88Baylor

    1) I imagine that on longer boss fights, SS could wear off, even with the 60 second duration. More to the point I'm just wondering how crowded GCDs are for protadins. I remember it being pretty tight back when.

    2) How is Hammer of Righteousness helping with mitigation? Or did you mean threat?

  • Sorry about that, having problems with reply functions. 1. Yes it is tight with 6969 if one follows it strictly, 6969 optimizes gcd's. But a couple of gcd's to cast SS are inconsequential in a long fight. Mitigation for party damage, not self was what meant. Threat is our way of mitigating damage for the party. 3. The new number is 102.4 You can only be crushed by mobs 4 levels above you, so there is no uncrushability, rather block cap. Consider for ICC that there is a -20% debuff to dodge.

  • hey man great video 5 stars. Very indepth :)

  • Thanks! If you have any questions regarding tanking, pls feel free to ask. If I don't know the answer, i will take the time to find out. :P
