Some of these tutorials are good, but the only thing that stood out for me was back tacking at the end of the dart. You should not do this as it adds bulk and can distort the shape. You are best to stitch to the point of the dart (shortening your stitches for the last 1 cm) pull your fabric and thread out for about 1 - 1 1/2 cm, and without cutting the thread sew and back tack 3-4 stitches inside the dart next to your original seam. There's a very good tutorial at threads magazine web site.
simplicity's patterns says its best to just sew off the dart edge and make a tiny know at the end because that little backstitch could cause a pucker. i've never done it with the knot. anyone have a opinion?
This was a lot better than the slow old lady on darts. It was fast and verbally descriptive enough to be more understandable than if every little detail were being followed with the camera. That's boring!
I thought this was an extremely simple how-to. Make an elongated triangle. Sew along your mark. I didn't even need the video to get how to do this, just the verbal explanation was enough for me. Thanks!
Thanks for this. It's sad that I'm in college, didn't get an explanation from my teacher, and had to YouTube how to make a dart. Thanks again. You should get paid for this.
She needs better lighting, I agree. Please take more time to explain and take the camera in on what you are doing more. I get the gist of it but I need to see more.
If I were using a dart in a pattern, would I have trimmed off the excess fabric on the inside afterwards? How would I have kept the seam from fraying later?
If that is to bulky then you can do a zig zag sitch along the edge. I normally go over it twice to be sure there is no fray but I just like to make sure it doesn't fray.
In 2009 a girl named CrapHead was walking in the street and got ran over by a ship. Noone ever saw her after that. But in 2018 she was seen again. (DUN dun duuuuun) ANd she murdered 40,000 people, including me, and Hannah Montana, But not Miley Cyrus. Now that you've read this peice of crap waste of time, if you don't post it on 10 videos within 20 minutes, CrapHead will take a dump on you, eat you, then explode. scarry right
I guess I was the only one who learned something from this vid. o_O Thank you for showing me how to sew a dart~ Though it would have been more helpful if you explained in detail about the backstitching. :)
The picture quality of this video is quite poor. Bad lighting and the camera needs to zoom in. Even so, this provided enough of a reminder to job my memory and I quickly sewed darts into the dress I'm making. Thanks.

Terrible video quality, can't see anything that was done. Try putting the camera closer and using a higher contrast thread and fabric.

No do not trim off excess fabric, just press it flat.

@burpolicious Pinking shears? Fray guard?
dazzychica 1 year ago
@burpolicious you don't cut off the excess material because it is really not a seam, it is used to make the garment fit and look better on your body

I cant see what the dart looks like, and this video is NOT helpful..please re- shoot this video.

I can't see anything you've done. The fabric and thread are too light colored to show up, and the camera is too far away from the action. :(

@therealamberla i don't understand why expert village's vids are all such poor quality. had the same prob on a vid about bicycle maintenance.
