  • Very happy music!! I am just starting to draw with pastels for the first time in a long time and I am really enjoying it very much. Pastels can create beautiful art that is for sure as long as you know what you are doing. This is a very cheery and beautiful picture. This video makes me want to draw with pastels more often!!

could you give me some tips?

  • Hi Amber,

Make sure you practice. The more you do the better you will get. Also, keep watching others as they paint.

  • @AmberDelaineLovesYou

Watch videos, read books, play around and keep drawing. Art is from the inside of you, feel good when you do it.

  • i watched this with open mouth ;)

  • I'm glade you liked it.

  • What's the song called?

  • u must read this. once u have started there is no turning back. a little 10 year old girl was raped and murderded in 1945. her body was not found until 1947. then a boy last week read this and did not copy and paste this message. the dead girl appeared in his room haunting him and killed him. if you do not copy and paste this onto 10 vidoes in 30 minutes the dead girl will apear in your room tonight and haunt you and kill you. well you better start to copy and paste to be saved

  • I fell asleep during the video but when I woke up it turned out good. I need to keep in mind that pastels are all about layers..

  • nice!!!!

  • thanks

  • dude your awesome ive been drawing with pastels for over a year now and although i love it i still suck worse than a 5 dollar hooker

  • To get better there are two things to remember. First, you must a passion for the the art and second is to practice always. I'm good at barns and landscapes because I love to do them and I have done hundreds of them.

  • soft pastels and pastel pencil.

  • this is really pretty! im on my way.. :) i love this tho, once i can do this i will be satisfied. how long did it take?

  • Thanks Christine! It took over an hour to draw and record it and about two hours to edit down to less then eight minutes.

  • great :)

  • @cyrilshin

    Thanks!

  • WOW!! this is amazing!!! I would love to learn how to use pastels..Ive tried out oil pastels but i don't understand how to blend it maybe i put to much pressure in drawing it out? they never blended or maybe that's how they are supposed to be? Idk but i will look for soft pastels this painting is amazing!!! How long have you been drawing/ painting for?

  • Thank you!

I have been painting in watercolors for over 25 years and in pastels for about 3 years. Pastels are more forgiving than watercolors.

  • @colsongrjg lol I SUCK at watercolor!!!!

  • Are you using the pencil shape the house, tree, and the grass???

  • Yes, I like to use pencils for sharp details.

  • Yes, I like to use pencils for sharp details.

  • Gary, how long did it take to draw this beautiful, awsome piece of work???

  • The painting took about 90 minutes to do. I wanted to go fast and loose. The editing took over two hours to complete. it was really fun to do. Thanks for asking.

  • Very cool! I love this video:) How long did it take to do this in real time?

  • The painting took about 90 minutes to do.

  • I'm just now starting to use pastels and I have a problem with little lumps/rolls of pastels clumping up. They're similar to eraser shavings. How to I prevent that?

  • Are you using soft or oil pastels? If they are soft , then they should smooth out easier with your finger. Oil, you'll have to use more pressure to get the texture you went.

  • @MADBALL9991 Well they are the size of crayons and they do say Oil Pastels on the carton. I tried it out on stretched canvas which I'm sure was my first problem. I just want to know if there is a certain technique when it comes to using them on canvas or what it is exactly that I'm doing wrong.

  • Try not using canvas. Try something more rigid like poster board. Keep trying all types of surface until you're happy.

  • Excellent. Thank you for sharing!

  • you're welcome!

  • you're the man for making this video. thanks.

  • thanks!

  • 2 Questions

    1. what is the music?

2, What makes chalk pastels better/worse than oil and Vise versa

  • I don't remember

where the music came from. It was

    already downloaded in my system.

I have used both chalk and oil.

Chalk gives a softer look to the drawing.

  • Very pretty :D

  • Thank you!

  • i prefer oil pastels

  • I also like to work with oil pastels. They are great for vivid colors.

  • As a self-taught weekend pastel learner, I really enjoy painting but at the same time there is tones of frustration and loneliness I had been trough. You just changed it by posting this video. Seems not a big deal for yourself, but it means a lot to me.

    Thank you for your generosity.

  • Believe it or not , its mean a lot to me when you can be touch by someone's love and passion through art. Thank you.

  • Great demonstration and work.

  • Thanks! it was fun doing this demo.

  • I drew one like urs and did every single step righ here and it looks so awesome!Excellent! You got so much talent.

  • Thanks. I would love to see it.

  • beautiful drawing ... keep up the good work

  • Thanks!

  • I have never done art before, but I have started playing with my 10 yr. olds pastels. It's so beautiful what you created, and thanks for the inspiration!

  • Youre welcome. Just remember to have patience as you learn to control the pastels. Also, when you draw, make sure you do it for you.

  • this is really awesome!

  • Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it.

  • Thank you! I just started drawing with pastel! It's a good tutorial!

  • Good luck with pastels. It's amazing and great on how much we can learn from watching others. I know I have.

  • you are really good!

  • Thanks craeexbabee!

  • I am just getting into drawing and I really like this pastels. This draw is really nice.

  • Thank you for your comments. Enjoy your venture in drawing pastels.

  • so many layers. i could lose my mind trying to remember the steps. ill have a smoke and see if that slows it down for me. it really is awesome.

  • Hi "Lookatthesparkels",

I'm glad you like the video. Without the editing and speeding up the video, this pastel drawing took about a hour to make.

  • what type of paper is best to use?

  • I like to use Crescent 300.6 Cold Press Illustration Board. I find it holds the pastels nicely.

  • Thank You! It was fun making this video.

  • nice
