what about breathing. any tips or other videos that elaborate on the technique? I find that since I pretty much suck at breathing while swimming (water enters nose and mouth) that it throws me off and I have to stop swimming to get above water to get enough air.
I like the glide with the reach tip. That will definitely help. Open water with people kicking all around you is so different from the pool, so I know that swimming open water is good practice too.
Hi, Thanks for the video. Doing my fisrt Tri this year. I have a problem with the breathing, tried all ways to correct it, breathing at different strokes etc. Think I may be holding in to much and not releasing breath under water. Practice Practice.
Try walking in a shallow pool leaning over at the waist with knees bent, close your eyes and inhale slowly and glide, exhale slowly when your nose enters the water and be out of air by the time your nose exits the water. The key is to breathe as if you were out of the water.
Like topgroover, I also find it very hard to breathe as if I were out of the water. When I try to continuously breathe out under water, I feel like I'm going to run out of air. So, I continue to hold my breath, which I know is not good either...
OMG, AND ME WAYNE! Thnat's my problem, my body wan'ts to breathe underwater, so I counter, panic and then it all goes very wrong! I try and breathe out under water but can't fully exhale, so wen I come up for air, I still breathe out, and dont take that breathe in... which you can imagine causes the whole "arm in the air, I'm drowning again!' lol
Many of us breathe on each stroke. Coaches like alternate breathing because it helps to even out the stroke. In a race it may be helpful to be able to breathe on either side due to waves or another swimmer. Fewer strokes per length is better. I take 12 (6 right arms)per length. More than 20 is not good.
Thanks for the useful tips. Very helpful. I tested a couple of them in the pool this morning. I did have a follow up question related to breathing technique. It looks like you're taking a breath with every stroke. Is this recommended for triathlons versus every other stroke?
