jordan is a amazing and very simple no look expectedly pass, wont see the speed or how many steps he did .contrarily,, jordan must've passed the ball after making steps, but he dribbled it again . theres no travelling .it's double drible. in fastbreak there is no traveling.you can make steps before dribblng then make some step for passing/shooting but not dribbling because it will be double dribble. travelling is like you have the ball the make so more steps than 2 or 3 steps rather. heheheh
@nbaking9999 Oh i was'nt talking about you my man, i was talking about the nuts who think this is a travel. I think they need to get their eyes checked or more sleep, cause MJ obviously did'nt travel on this great pass. MJ's skill set was so rediculous, you can get so caught up in the spectacular dunks and unbelievable layups, that you almost forget how great of a passer, rebounder and defender he was. The ALL AROUND COMPLETE PLAYER.
@nbaking9999 Oh, definantly. You know it's funny, i could look at these highlights over and over, and i never get tired of looking at them. Just timeless classics man.
That is not traveling.... It's called a "stutter-step", which is completely legal that a lot of guards uses... Do a research on google under that name... You will see that it's basketball drill that is taught...
Aslong you're still dribbling the ball, you can take as many steps as you want... When the rule book said by possession, they mean is once you pick up the ball by putting your hands under the ball which is no longer on top of the ball when you're dribbling...
traveling = taking more than 2 steps while you HOLD the ball
MJ didn't even hold the ball, cuz as you said, he dribbled. as long as his hands aren't under the ball then he's still dribbling, you can take as many steps as you want as long as you're DRIBBLING
I'm glad this video is posted when Jordan took 5 steps without dribbling (traveling) and then dribbled again (double dribble). Not a single thought by the ref to blow the whistle though...
retarded comment traveling is when you're taking more than 2 steps holding the ball, as in not in motion with your hand under the ball. You can take as many steps as you want when you're dribbling the ball duh. For example while going for a lay up. He takes a few lightning fast steps to fake the defender while still dribbling the ball all in all a beautiful play. Now stfu and watch the master at work if you don't like MJ its your loss don't bitch about it to other people. Thanks.
You're wrong. Look up the definition of a travel. There is no reason to argue a fact. You argue opinions. It states in the rule book what a travel is. He is in contact with the ball and therefore has a possession. He takes more than 2 steps. Imagine if he took as big of steps as he could and picture what that would look like. Even you would call it a travel. So in conclusion, you're wrong. Thanks for trying though. I appreciate your comment.
You're an idiot. It is not possible to travel while dribbling. The number or size of the steps taken per dribble is irrelevant. From the official NBA rules. Section XIV-Traveling
"A player who receives the ball while he is progressing or upon completion of a dribble, may use a two-count rhythm in coming to a stop, passing or shooting the ball."
Did Jordan receive the ball while progressing? No.
Was Jordan completing his dribble?
No.
Is it possible for Jordan to have travelled in this play?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
He may not, in his mind, have been completing a dribble, but he completed the dribble when he picked up the ball and took those steps. Just imagine a player picking up the ball, taking two steps like he was going for a lay-up and then taking another dribble, arguing that he had no intention of completing a dribble. The play stands as it happened. In slow motion, it is clear that he traveled. Please stop trying to disprove a fact. You make yourself look ignorant.
"he completed the dribble when he picked up the ball and took those steps"
What? He never picked up the ball. He was still dribbling. You can take as many steps as you want while you are still dribbling.
You're imaginary scenario where the ball is picked up, two steps are taken, and then the ball is dribbled again is a double dribble. It is also irrelevant, because Jordan did not pick up his dribble.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Please stop responding. He was in possession of the ball during the steps because he was in contact with the ball, making it a double dribble. Just because his hand isn't under the ball doesn't mean he doesn't have possession. If that's true, a player could just palm the ball and run around with it because as you say, someone can take as many steps as they want between dribbles. If he wasn't in contact with the ball, he could take 100 steps. You're wrong...
@rosendah What rulebook are you looking at? Where in the rulebook does it state contact equals possession? Could you link it? Because i can't find anywhere in the official rulebook that states that. Nowhere in sections (dribbling) III, (traveling) IX, (traveling) XIV does it state that nor describe what you believe is traveling in this video.
@jj4319 I'm not saying any contact equals possession. But the contact that Michael Jordan shows in this highlight is and would be considered possession. In real time, I don't blame the ref for not seeing it. But in slow-motion this is a travel. Imagine him palming the ball and running around with it. It would be up to the discretion of the ref at that point to determine possession. I've played basketball for a long time and this would be called possession by any legitimate referee.
@rosendah HAHA woooow i was looking for the idiott that actually thought that was a travel. DO YOU KNOW WHAT A STUDDER STEP IS? you think your so brilliant taking the rules overly literal. actually you just don't know the rules. you think a studder step is a travel? oh man, you should come to my camp some year and I can teach you some basic basketball moves...
Now if he wasn't in contact with the ball, he could take as many steps as he wanted. He could do a dance routine for all I care. But he had possession. Please don't respond to these comments because once again, you are attempting to argue a fact and that is an ignorant thing to do. There are no opinions here. He traveled. Once again, don't respond although I'm sure you will...

@distanct It doesn't matter if he took 100 steps as long as his hand never goes under the ball.
Traveling in the NBA is taking more than two and a half steps while HOLDING the ball. You can take a million steps if you're dribbling the ball.
