  • Ralph was given the real '55 Whiteguard as a gift in token appreciation of his faux chops. ; )

  • Stevie Vai is better known as The Apprentice, because a guitar player named Frank Zappa taught him virtually everything he knows. Okay not everything. Berkeley helps.

  • steve vai owns

  • EPIC!

  • The New SRV, absolutly amazing .

  • The New SRV

  • Perhaps we all need to reflect on the kind of people who make homophobic slurs in a Youtube comments section argument, eh? Well done, fellas. Well done. All that you have proved is that you are narrow minded bigots. Bravo.

  • Bad Horsie!

  • In reality Vai isn't fit to change Ry Cooder's strings, but this is just a movie.

  • Went out and got the tape cassette to the movie the day after i saw it,it got swiped at a party two days later, had to get it again,it blew me away

  • blues have more expresion than metal

  • it is Ralph Macchio from DWTS

  • Best part of the whole movie!

  • From what I've read, it isn't Ry playing the slide, it's Arlen Roth.

  • @planetalk

Cooder plays all the slide. Roth was involved in the film but only as Macchio's guitar tutor/coach.

Though he is a very good player in his own right.

  • That arpeggio part Ralph does toward the end can't be Ry...that's Steve's thing.

  • @monster4josh of course it's Steve,, but originally - Paganini...

  • As a professional Blues musician this a truly a joke. This is ROCK not BLUES! Check out Luther Allison with Otis Rush (and Eric Clapton realizing he's out of his league), John Mayer getting "schooled" by Carl Weathersby at Legends and all of the other real Blues musicians on YouTube. Steve Vai is a great gutiar player (and a Facebook friend), Ry Cooder can play just about anything with the best of them in any genre of music but this video clip isn't about Blues, it's a Hollywood chunk of crap.

  • @bobbybluz1 cmon dude, i know you wanna sound like your smart because ur a traumatized person, but you can say it is blues because they use lots of pentatonics and you can clearly hear the 1-4-5 progression, also otish is awesome, but your really saying that clapton is not so good? you want attention or what? this video is really not so bluesy you can say it is more to rock than to blues, but it's not crap they are playing very interesting things over there, i bet you can't play like them.

  • @juliovac Please tell me what you know about Blues, how many gigs you do a year and how many years you've been performing. I can (and do) play real Blues, Can you? Otis Rush was one of many of teachers I had over the past 40 years as a Blues musician. I'll bet you've never played Chicago clubs like Legends, Kingston Mines, Rosa's or B.L.U.E.S. in your life. I've performed at all of them recently.

  • @bobbybluz1 well steve vai is not a blues musician which is why its not "pure" blues but it does have blues elements. So yeah ... might not be labeled as blues but it has alittle of this and alittle of that.

  • @bobbybluz1 Dude, stop bragging and watch the video. For the rest of know, you made that shit up.

  • @captross07 You should have been aborted and your parents (brother and sister?) sterilized. Inbreeding makes idiots like you.

  • @bobbybluz1 Bit of advice: If you want people to ever take you seriously, don't make comments like that.

They make you look like a petty, immature douchebag. I simply said, "Watch the video and stop bragging," a response to the overwhelmingly arrogant comments you have left on this page.

You respond by calling me an "inbred idiot."

You, sir, are disrespectful, arrogant braggart. You are no Bluesman, I can say that for sure.

True Bluesman are humble. You are not.

  • @bobbybluz1 CLEARLY you know nothing of the blues. REAL Bluesmen (real musicians, for that matter) do not waist their time bragging about how good the are. They let their talent speak for itself.

You, on the other hand, are a self-centered weasel who spends half his time picking fights with random people, and the other half attempting to suck his own dick.

Though I've not met you, I can safely saw that I know more about the blues than you.

    A lot more.

    Schooled.

  • Yeah, You're not a musician. Not at all. Not in the slightest.

Also, you're clearly a closeted homosexual. Because only "Queers in Hiding" use "faggot" as much as you do.

Though I myself am not gay, I just want you to know that I support you. Feel free to be yourself. Of course, your life probably won't be any different than it is now. Only after you come out, you won't have to be so secretive about the fact that you suck dick.

Now clean the cum off your face with PRIDE!

  • @captross07 How many gigs a year do you play you useless cum dumpster? Assholes like you are living proof that just because you somehow can use a computer you have absolutely no brains in your head. You also have no knowledge of what Blues is or isn't. You wouldn't last a week in Chicago.

  • @bobbybluz1 Oh, blow it out your ass, you cum-guzzling shitbag! I hope I actually do meet you one day so I can shove a pool cue up your ass and break it. You'll be shitting splinters for about a week.

You know what your problem is? All that semen getting shot up your ass is making you delusional. You probably figure, "hey, this dude is fucking me up the ass! He must like me! I must be good."

And it doesn't matter how many gigs you play. You're gonna suck at music, no matter what. Prick

  • @captross07 So you're going to come into a Black Chicago Blues club, start a fight with a Black musician and think you're going to leave alive? I've got your picture and if I see you it's on. A silly white peckerwood faggot like you won't win even if you bring a gun. There are a lot more of us than of you and we all hate you.You ofays stole OUR music but we fuck your women.

  • @bobbybluz1 Fuck off, you racist prick! You're the one picking a fight, douchebag, not me. I'm just defending myself on the web.

And you as a person do not deserve this music, so do not claim it as your own.

Also, bitch, you do NOT know me. Shit, for all you know I'm a crazy white cannibal motherfucker. I will eat you, bitch! Snacktime!!

  • @captross07 So the AIDS has taken over your little peckerwood fag brain? I wouldn't let you suck my dick you useless piece of dogshit. You're nothing but a typical white Internet punk, all fart and no shit. I'd skin you and wear you for a coat but my guess is you never leave your mothers basement other than to go suck dicks for crack and meth. I believe you're a cannibal just like Jeffrey Dahmer. You two are probably a lot alike.

  • @bobbybluz1 Oh My God, it was a fucking joke! I'm not a cannibal nor am I gay, you dumbass crackbaby. I checked your profile, too, by the way. You have got to be the most immature 58-year-old Blues Musician that I've ever met.

Also, here's how I know you're full of shit: What kind of "professional" blues musician has no videos of his shows on youtube. If you're as good as you say you are, show me.

Do that, and I'll leave you alone forever.

And I'm not related to Jeffrey Dahmer. Moron.

  • @captross07 You and Jeffrey Dahmer are twins right?

  • ambbos sao bons mas o melhor de todos é zakk wilde

  • Steve shoulda balanced on one leg, jumped up and smacked "The Todd" in the face with his Raw Cooter.

  • Ry Cooder vs Steve Vai....Until 05:18.

Then it's Steve Vai vs Steve Vai.

  • floyd rose's are a pain in the ass to work with.

but are still the best when they work properly.

i remember this flick...gotta go and buy it on dvd. soon!

  • Vai played all the fast, Vai sounding parts, and it doesn't need to go past 1:06!

  • Loved that movie - I wished they would reprint it

  • @buskerbuoy They did a few years ago on DVD - Check on Amazon, they've currently got loads available from just over £3

  • From this day Vai is playing the Jem! :D

  • OH PLEASE! As if Steve Vai would give it up to some punk-ass Chachi!

  • 06:33 steve vai's face was like 'are u kidding me" lol

  • steve's part is in the script,oh my god!!!!!!!

  • I'd love to meet a guitarrist like that...

  • ther was a scene befor: Blues is when youre searching for your girlfriend and..

    Help me out!

  • @panman1959b You might be thinking of when Willie Brown tells him: The Blues ain't nothing but a good man feeling bad.

  • 4:40. That's definitely not legato being played. It has the sharpness of it being picked

  • Steve Vai playing blues is like Ethel Merman singing gospel. As great as he might be at what he does- and he's one of the tops- that AIN'T blues.

  • @yoursaxman Vai isn't trying/supposed to be playing blues. Thats the point.

  • 5:23 is wen it changes from Ry Cooder vs. Steve Vai to Steve Vai vs. Steve Vai.

  • @TheDesolateOne84 So it's a tie?

  • WHAT A LOAD OF SIITE

  • You know Steve Vai is a god at guitar when he can't even make it look like he is screwing up on guitar. 6:46 and 7:07 ....he just lifts his finger off lol.. He doesnt even know what its like to mess up on guitar!

  • Just incredible!

  • its not an Ibanez, its a Charvel San Dimas

  • Nice! thanks for posting

  • the winner of this guitar duel is Steve's leather pants

  • This film looks dreadful

  • I like how a 21 fret telecaster can hit a higher note than the 24 fret Ibanez, but I loved the movie anyway.

  • @denmalski I think the implication in this scene is that Ralph's character hit the "right" note whereas Steve Vai's character couldn't "find" it. That's just what I think, but yea if you play guitar that's pretty funny.

  • @zedner757 I wasn't being critical, I was just trying to make a funny observation. In any case I'm way off, loooks like a 22 fret Ibanez, my bad. and not only did Ralph's character hit the right note, he hit 7 harmonized notes at once, now that's impressive . again comments were for fun, no offence taken, hopefully none were sent

  • @denmalski With a slide you can hit very, very high notes, I'm talking 30+ fret notes

  • Ry Cooder - #8 in "Rolling Stone" 'Top 100 Greatest Guitarist's of All Time'.!!!

  • Vai may be pound for pound the best of the guitar virtuosos.... ...but he can't act for toffee.

  • Vai looks like such a teenager here...

  • Actually it is only steve vai then play guitar in that duel.

  • Macchio may be faking it but it's one of the best jobs of faking it I've ever seen in a movie! I wouldn't mind being able to fake it that good! LOL

  • love this,,,

  • Ry Cooder The legend the greatest rock guitar player. This guy gets no credit still the best !!!! I you look close you can see its Ry Cooders arms and hands playing the Boys guitar...

  • Ry Cooder The legend the greatest rock guitar player. This guy gets no credit still the best !!!!

  • No vateriobert, yes , the actor is Ralph Macchio, but he isn't really playing. Ry Cooder is...get it?

  • Does anybody know the name of the song he is playing in the pawnshop right at the end of that scene?

  • This was one of my fave movies. This just made me order it up. Thanks for posting

  • Cheers MetalDragon42. This brought back some ace memories of my miss-spent youth!

  • The guitar player from Hell. I love Steve Vai. Nice movie! Rock and Roll (and blues)! Very nice choice from the Devil! He's got good taste! Last century the songs that refer to the devil are much more interesting than any kind of gospel. I prefer Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Black Sabbath to any kind of gospel. I really hate gospel music. I'm talking about last century, 'cause I love Mozart's mass, and Bach's pieces.

  • this should be a level on guitar hero! LOL!

  • always had a soft spot for this movie, i watched it growing up. but Ralph Macchio? man, he wouldn't be my first choice....*cough* daniel san *cough*!!!

  • This vid is as magical as the first time i saw it all those yrs ago. Love it!!!

  • has steve vai ever written a great song? its all just jerking off,who cares.

  • @nolenzvolenz everything from passion and warfare is the best song ever written. watch him playing lotus feet live and your perception of his playing will change dramatically.

  • Eff that , I know for a fact Steve Vai has two opposable thumbs on each hand

  • Nce Video!

is that the kid from Karate Kid?

  • Steve Vai rocks!!!

  • that isnt ry cooder its ralph macchino, who plays the karate kid.and its steve vai vs ralph.BUT its stevie ray vaughan doing it 4 ralph macchino

  • @thesecretmanful lol. no, that's ry cooder playing. Not acting, but all the slide stuff, that's ry. the rest is steve. Vai.. not vaughan. As much as I love SRV.. he plays no part whatsoever in this movie.

  • Such a great movie

  • He plays the intro from Bad Horsie!!LOL!!!!!!!!!!!

  • man sieht sofort das er es nicht selber spiet alles von steve vai gespielt

    schadee

  • Vai can't even play bad when he has to!

  • Great movie. But Steve Vai's character absolutely wipes the floor with Ralph Macchio's character. He plays, on the spot, a classical piece that Macchio's character attended Julliard School of Music to learn earlier in the movie.

I've known a few players who could just "play" and I mean play anything. Jazz, blues, rock, etc. Right on the spot. Just start jamming with no rehearsal. No music. Plain raw talent.

  • @chadhargis The point was that Vai's character was so arrogant that he tried to one-up Macchio by playing the practiced piece on the spot. Even after selling his soul to the devil, he wasn't good enough to do do that. He was so shocked by this that he just gave up.

  • Kid pwned Vai

Just goes to show, kiddies, playing fast and with alot of effects doesn't beat pure soul and SMART playing

that kid has technique, style, and slide

no matter who is really playing the guitar, and knowing Vai it's probably both the kids part and him, although Idk

the point is, play guitar smart, and bring the speed in later

  • @Valcarion Just goes to show nothing. It's a movie, it's acting. You really think 'kid' pwned Vai in reality? Vai did play BOTH parts.

  • @rjdempsey Thats what I'm getting at smart ass. Thats why I said, Vai probably did play both parts, as in, Vai is a great guitar player, and knows the value of soulful playing versus speed. All I was getting at was that smart soulful playing is more important than pure speed. That was my point. And, if you would actually pay attention to what I was saying, I realize Vai played both parts. So in reality, you missed my fucking point.

  • @Valcarion Relax. No ones being a smart ass. I agree with you. I was asking you the question, do your really think the kid pwned Vai? Your original statement made it sound like you thought the kid actually pwned Vai. Reread your statement. I'm not the only one who heard you that way. (@cyberpants) You answered me clearly in your reply, albeit in a rude way. We cool?

  • @rjdempsey sorry, I overreacted a bit, my fault

yeah we're cool man, my apologies. I've had a long long day ahaha

  • @Valcarion It's a movie. It's scripted. WTF are you talking about? Ralph Macchio doesn't even really play the guitar.

  • @cyberpants Oh really? Thanks for telling me that, I had no idea *end sarcasm*

Read my comment again, I said "knowing Vai it's probably both the kids part and him", as in, he almost certainly played both parts

Vai is a great guitar player, and knows the value of soul, as opposed to just playing lightning fast.

The whole message I got from that part was that soul is more important than technique

  • @Valcarion Well no wonder I didn't understand what you were saying. First you say "Kid pwns Vai" and then you say "knowing Vai it's probably both the kids part and him," which is such poor grammar that it doesn't make any sense at all. It certainly didn't negate your opening of "Kid pwns Vai." Read your own comment again and learn to write coherently.

  • @cyberpants yeah, I agree, that was bad grammar

my apologies for being confusing in my comment

I know how to write coherently, thank you. I don't know why I wrote it like that in the first place, but I recognize the mistake, and I apologize.

  • The old black guy looks like raffiki from Lion King when he laughs.

  • @Deartumain ahahahahaa yea man

  • @Deartumain

    i loll'd

  • he isn't ry cooder...he's ralph macchio

  • Yes its Ralph in the Film but its Ry Cooder who's really playing the Music ;)

    Well Him and Steve..

  • @MetalDragon42 The IMDb trivia section for this movie says Steve Vai played both parts.

  • @jedieco23 IMDB is wrong.

  • Steve Vai did play both parts except for the slide guitar pats, those were dubbed in by Ry Cooder.

  • @MetalDragon42

Absolutly not. Vai plays both guitars

  • @TheBluesHalfQuartet nop Ry Cooder plays the kids part (since when Vai plays with Slide?) Then, the last song is both played by Vai (the kid and vai part)

  • @valeriobert

    Fail.

  • whats the song played at 6:42???? I want to learn it SOOO BADLY. I learned the alla turca(if thats how its spelled ot even the right name) AND I WANT TO LEARN THIS SO BAD. plz tell me!

  • Etude number 2. Heitor Villalobos. It starts at 5:32, the one Steve Vai is is playng at 6:42 is the mid part.

  • @TigrexPivotAnime

I think its the Caprice #5 by Paganini, he wrote 24 caprices for solo violin, and they are all pretty popular guitar songs too, the 24th being the hardest.

  • Wille makes me laugh

  • BWAAHHH!!!

*Face burns up in a screeching mess of white hot metal being carried by charred skeletal doves in their beaks*

    Damn

  • that guys laugh makes me crack up lol.. i didnt really expect to see him come back and melted the other guy! wicked stuff.

  • any movie with steve vai is a win :)

  • It was true in the 80's and it's true still.... any guitarist working for the devil has a floyd rose.

  • @007Elvisofnazareth i have a floyd rose hehehe
