Howdy! I make my own list of items to block, since I'm a paranoid schizophrenic and I don't trust anyone to make such a list for me. I block all advertisement.
No howdy required. This is ChrisJ of ChrisJMoor fame. Speaking to you from the limbo of a two week suspension for 'community guidelines violations'.
It would be cool if you could make your list available for download on holysmoke or even make it available when people install AdBlock Plus. Call me naive to trust a paranoid schizophrenic but I nonetheless do;)
B) He probably used a botnet [denial of service? Trying to take yout your videos? Have fun with THAT because it's impossible.]
C) I'm pretty sure that's illegal.
D) It didn't do ANYTHING. No one ever uses the rating system unless they're stuck up assholes from Hollywood. I don't think anyone using a 'vote bot' could do anything more destructive. And it isn't even distructive. If he wanted destruction, just post comments and laugh.
what is the primary motive of votebots, given that "insignificant" channels like this could not possible become any more insignificanr? And I thought the votebots mostly attack freethinkers, atheists, etc. and sorta give high ratings to more Christian channels.
From what I can tell in the data from the "insight" function, those 100,080 one-star ratings actually increased my channel's popularity rating very slightly. One "star" is better than none! :-)
For the record, I would also object to a 'bot that did 100,080 five-star ratings. Like most people, I detest cheaters.
Everybody's got a votebot these days, honestly, a few channels get them and all of a sudden it's the craze. I got my first back in March and I adopted another one a few days ago. 17,000 of my very own one-star votes.
Haha they never learn, I've found loads of great channels since the attacks begain and i didn't even have to look. A votebot is a badge of honor in my books :)
The problem is that the software needed to votebot is cheap to get hold of, and any competing company or person who wishes to silence an opposition can do so simply by buying the software and running it.
I'm not quite sure how these votebots work but it would make sense that if one can program a bot to give you 1 star ratings then another can program a bot to give you 5 star ratings. It would be nice to run one of those for a few days on your channel to bring the ratings back up where they were.
Us loyal subscribers know the truth anyway but still just for kicks.
It kind of annoys me to see all those unjust one star ratings.
Firefox allows for easy scripting to be created as add-on functionality which makes votebotting very easy. 4channers did it for the NASA space station recycle plant to be named Xenu and then later on to be named Stephen Colbert. LOL.
Google could update their own severs and script engines to block votebotting but they don't because Google is lazy, increasingly evil, and only does things if there's money involved.
"Google could update their own severs and script engines to block votebotting but they don't because Google is lazy, increasingly evil, and only does things if there's money involved." Doesn't most of the developed world follow the money? You make it sound like a crime. Perhaps it is... If you really think so, perhaps it is money your true enemy and not so much the companies, so many people are stuck in the game. There is not much else offered. Whatd'ya expect, the universe is full of chaos.
"Doesn't most of the developed world follow the money? "
Point of fact.. youtube is STILL believed to be losing money hand over foot. Even with the recently increasing trend of intrusive advertising I don't know that it's yet managed to turn a profit.
I never said youtube was or wasn't loosing money... The meaning of what I said is their ultimate goal is to pull in a profit, That's simply the goals of many in the developed world.
YouTube as a millstone around Googles profitability is a mirage. Contrary to Credit Suisses estimates of a $470m annual loss, Google is more likely losing a fraction of that amount, due to peering for 73 per cent of its traffic, buying bandwidth from some of the lowest-cost Tier 1 providers, using unprecedented bulk purchasing power to secure very favorable wholesale rates, and running data centers far away from expensive locales," the report says. 2009
I have to admit....occasionally I get a guilty feeling that I'm too hard on believers....
....Happily, I'm ALWAYS confirmed in my "faith" about who and what believers really are by the rash of fundamentalist vot-botting that plagues youtube.
[although the latest insanity of the Discovery Institute was fun, too]
I've never noticed your views/ratings were so modest--I'm pretty surprised, I always assumed I was just getting to them early. You're aces in my books, Desertphile!
According to my math, the vote 'bot took two seconds for every rating (1440 minutes a day, at 44,000 ratings). I've no idea how a 'bot can do that. I assume it is done using embeded web page objects and the Youtube javascript API.
ya, the voting system uses ajax to send the vote request, as long as u have a valid session open with youtube, you can send vote requests..... u can create a valid session using the youtube api, then use pass the session id when you call the vote it, it's pretty simple.. you dont need a thousand of accounts, just one.. but i dont know nothing and didnt see anything.
Religious Logic: Damn atheists, I'm going to vote down thousands of times, that will convince them and teach them a lesson.

666 is an interesting number and someone likes it a lot.
Seconds, minutes and hours are what we go about our day based upon.
60 seconds in a minute. 6+0=6
60 minutes in an hour. 6+0=6
24 hours in a day. 2+4=6
A second can be anything but to make this daily 666 thing is to me not a coincidence.
It's okay, just know that more and more are rejecting the system every day.
Time is time and their time is nearing its end.
