  • What a beautifull harpist !

and the piece although is a bit slower than normal it is very well played.. clear harmonics and lot of passion !

a buzz in 06:00 hehe but the whole piece is fabulus..

    Bravoo !!

  • Nice, but too slow!!

  • is it possible to obtain a harp that doesn't use animal products?

  • Yes, you can get harps that don't use animal products.

Modern harps use modern man made glues - older instruments used to use glue made from animal bones.

Strings: bass strings are wire. Mid range and treble strings on modern pedal harps tend to be GUT (sheep). Some harpists (such as vegan harpists) will use nylon or synthetic gut (also known as carbon fiber strings).

    best wishes, Morley Harps.

  • Can I just say how very jealous I am of mungoesmad! I wish I was on a boat in the sunset listening to this!

This piece is very beautiful and she plays it very sensitively. By the way, adding to the shoes/bare feet debate, I much prefer bare feet and I find I have better control of the pedals and they don't bang so much becuase i can hook my toes around them and therefore push them with more control. But thats just my experiance, very interested to know what the rest of you think :)

  • Its my experience as a male harpist to prefer bare feet, though it can be a strange feeling while performing. Male shoes can often be wider, especially near the toe, making it harder to accurately control the pedals.

  • I have a question about the harp-

How the heck do you memorize where ALL those strings are, don't they get mixed up??!!

  • There are different colored strings - all Cs are red, and all Fs are black. It's quite easy once one has the hang of it. ;-)

  • I'm anchored up in my boat on a beautiful evening watching the sun set trying out my any where internet dongle thing. Seagulls are swirling all around me in some sort of feeding frenzy. then I hit the key and listen to this, I thought I was in heaven.

  • lovely!

  • Amazing!!!

  • Hi, That was beautiful!

I am a harpist and I know how long it takes to learn and to perfect a song. Dont worry about what JohnLee said about the shoes. I also play songs without my shoes.

  • Harp solos (in this case, an etude) are not "songs," they are "pieces." Songs, most often, have lyrics and are sung. I agree with John Lee: harpists should (must) wear shoes, and for good reason. You can't pedal accurately and with any speed in bare feet without "banging" the pedals (which Miss Llywelyn did in a few spots). That's caused by not having proper leverage from the heel to the ball of the foot, which shoes provide. Her watch strap distracted from the overall effect.

  • Sorry, this ain't Woodstock...put yer shoes on and show some class. Played the etude well though.

  • many harpists take their shoes off when the play... its considered the norm among harpists

  • I love harp, but it is very bulky.

  • sounds aweosme!!

  • youre incredible and that instrument looks beautiful. i love the harp so much.

  • Beautiful playing, my dear! I love that composition! You have a lovely technique, and it always warms my heart to see another barefoot pedaller!

You have a wonderful career ahead of you, I believe! Keep up the beautiful work!

  • not bad

  • really, really nice!

  • Beautiful to watch, passionate playing of a delicious piece of music.

  • Wow!! So Great!!! Cool!!

  • Graceful and eloquent, the sound is so beautiful, and watching you play is remarkably stunning. Lovely!

  • wow i play harp 2 and ur really good!!! :D

and really pretty 2!!! keep it up :)

  • Beautiful

  • Pedaling barefoot by the looks of it... good girl. Sorry to hear that dreaded buzz on the wires at the very end... but sometimes that just happens.

  • I always love a harpie

  • thats very impressive :o harp music always has a dreamy sort of quality to it. and i like that youre playing barefoot

  • How many string does a harp have?

  • Pedal harps come in 3 general sizes.

    Small 3/4 size - with 40, 42, 44 strings

    Straight Soundboard - 45 / 46 strings

Concert with extended soundboard - 47 strings

  • Hey, thanks for the info!

  • There is not enough of this wonderful artist to see, here on you tube!

    This is so beautiful!

  • wow incredible.... I'm all tears.

  • yessssss dare feet wait ti.ll i tell my teach now whats more beautiful the piece or you lol jk

  • omg this is so beautiful, it nearly makes me cry :~(

  • Heavenly! I'm hoping to see more harp performance by you.

  • Ouch, bare feet @_@;; I tried it once and it hurt... then again, my feet hurt so much because I walked around all day... Anyway, beautiful music. Play some more.

  • nice playing, you should have gotten 1st!

  • IF I CAN

    2 or 3 bad pedal's !!

i have play this ,i think a litle beter but it not to bad ( i'm sory for my anglish i'm french..)

  • Technique is so good - almost spotless!

  • Nothing wrong with bare feet. Well, maybe socks would be nice. Anyhow, I had a teacher make me wear shoes, and it was a pain because of my male wide feet. My new teacher, principal harpist for DSO goes with "What works to create best sound,"

  • Such sublime playing, is Mali going to tour in England at all? I'd love to be able to see her. Glad to see genuine artistry, especially at such a formal event. Beautiful.

  • Just realized you were only sixteen at the time of this recording, how amazing! Let us know when you will next be playing in London, because I want to bring the whole family to hear you play. Best wishes!

  • Really excellent, and so nice to find something worthwhile on U-Tube. Thankyou.

  • She plays with the grace of angels.

  • It's great seeing someone of this level of accomplishment who defies the prohibition against bare footed harp playing.

  • In bare feet?

  • Wonderful playing!!!
