  • Beautiful! I be smiling like that guy too if I owned it!

  • That is such a great truck... I can't say it in words...

Is there any Homepage or something like that where I could read more about the history and technical data of the truck...

I mean 1948 is ago such a long time that it is a wonder that the truck still exists!

  • @Strassenelefant I have a few more videos on here of it and someone else has posted a couple videos of it as well. No homepage for it that I know of.

  • Thanks for this post. I really like pics and vids of old big rigs. For some reason, I always thought the truck used in the film 'DUEL', was a '48 Pete. But after reading the posts on other Youtube pages, I learned it was a '55.

  • Mexican stick?

  • @mrkotfw Yah they like to put those shifter sky high.

  • @104bigTruck I'm very curious now. Do you have any videos, references?

So truckers in Mexico like to put the shifter really high?

By the sound of it, it's a good thing?

  • @mrkotfw Oh its not just a Mexican thing I even see some cow boy haulers do it and some east indian trucks have it but I always called it a Mexican stick because Mexicans have always tricked their trucks and cars out really cool and this was like one of their trade marks. There was no racial remark or anything like that if thats where you were going. I have tons of Mexican friends. :)

  • Sweet all mechanical wooooo

  • KTA 19? road ranger? nice old truck with modern conveniences

  • @egpg2000 ever hear of consolidated freightways

  • " A couple of boobs and a thousand cubes as the 1948 Peterbilt screamed alive,we woke up the chickens".....C.W. Mc Call -Wolf Creek Pass

  • Man, i really respect the owner. Not many people know how to turn them old cummins up.

  • nice that truck is friken awesome

  • How about a follow up with the owner's interview, maybe a couple of take off shots....

  • That is a nice truck... I thought it was a 1952 but with this video I can tell its an earlies model, Sometime between 1947-51 Peterbilt was founded in 1939 after Fagol truck sold its company to Fred Petermen. Fagol was split into two between Peterbilt and Freightliner. Anyhow Great truck a real American classic!

  • @mrclean73 freightliner started as a shipping company hat made their own trucks

  • This doesn't really stack up. Firstly, long shifters are a no-no on rough terrain (and serve no useful purpose on Road) because they have a habit of falling out of gear and bending selector forks. Secondly, 600 hp is way too much for a heavy duty use. TBO would be very short, maybe less than 1000 hours.

  • @nem427 how can you have too much hp? you do realize in the 1970s you could order a class 8 with up to 750 hp?

  • @85raminator

Sadly, you can ALWAYS have too much of a good thing! Start cranking up the ponies and the cylinder pressures and temperatures soar and engine life plummets. Big trucks are for working hard all day, not an occasional blast down the quarter mile. I'm not aware of any heavy available truck engine from the 70s with 750hp except maybe the 12v71tta and I think that had a nasty habit of overheating and needing frequent rebuilds-it's that old heat problem again...

  • @nem427 i actually just got done rebuilding a 78 KTA19 from a guys 359 pete it was rated for 725 factory and had a 13 speed behind it, spent its days in central pa as a log hauler had almost 1.2 million miles on it! And yeah those detroits had alot of issues but i love em just the same! But as far as cranking up the ponies? well theirs still some cowboy truckers out here that want the most powerful machine on the road

  • you are not going to pull 600 hp worth of air through that little air cleaner!

  • Comment removed

  • @straightpipesrule @ :30 that isnt an air cleaner sitting above the power steering res?

  • Hard to believe it was made in 1948. Those trucks age so well!

  • is that truly a 600 hp cummins in there and what's a mexican stick?

  • he's gotter turned up to 600 and a mexican stick is that shifter mounted so high in the air.

  • @ElSatansucks

These people have built engines, using the 855 cu. in. block,

to be used in racing in Europe, which produce 1200+ h.p.

    wwwDOTpittsburghpower

  • Saw that truck going through Monroe, WA a couple weeks ago. Would LOVE to get a closer look at it sometime!

  • give them another 200 years. they'll pretty much look the same.

  • what kind of engine is that? looks like a john deere intake setup.

  • Cummins

  • @DieselMechanic09 diesel mechanic huh? thats a cummins motor and in my opinion if you were a machanic you would know that a D-model 3406? used the same style intake

  • very oldskool

  • I want one

  • Awesome! Well all but that tall shifter.
