Great video! This is a really great project you are spearheading in our design industry. You have already got me on board. I have done a few pro-bono projects for students organisations, have have seen made a number of great connections and friends there. Now, I have been receiving referrals from these connections for further pro-bono and paid jobs. There are benefits in doing good and doing good designs, cause you have to remember to see it as a long time investment. Hope it all goes well! :D
Hey @josephlouistan , thanks for the compliments. It's very encouraging to hear that being good can also work out well in Singapore - I've been so used to hearing stories of people being jaded about the work that they do, haha. Good luck to you too!
I agreed with everything in the video. I'm a graphic design student in the UK and this really rings home here too! Be interested to see how this project progresses - if it is a success in Singapore then maybe start to think about it on a more international scale!
I love this! I'm currently a senior Information Design student from the Philippines, but I was fortunate enough to study a semester in Singapore. I like how your idea brings ethics back into the picture without losing sight of the reality that designers still have needs to fulfill. Your idea definitely has support from the Philippines, especially from me and my coursemates!
You should extend your request to designers all over the world. I'm from Malaysia, and I'm more than happy to know that there's someone out there who thinks the same. I have not done extensive research as you have, but I have thought of more sustainable and responsible approaches to design; not just in terms of graphic design. Housing, food, healthcare and other basic needs. Designing with a conscience has always been a goal of mine; I've even thought of designing for the United Nations.
Thanks for the comment @thyeshin! I'm glad to speak with like-minded people. While I'd love to expand the scope of the project, there are a couple of constraints to consider, such as this being a year long academic project and the fact that I'm a student who hasn't had much experience with the local visual comm industry - much less the industry on an international level.
Perhaps in future when I'm old and wizened, haha! For now, I guess I'm starting with something relatively small first. :)
