  • @nikepre13 Nice try. But UGa didn't admit their first student until 1801. UNC graduated their first class in 1798.

  • Timeless.

  • I am totally in love with David Mikush's voice. I didn't notice him back when I scoured for Anoop's videos when he was still in AI and found this but now, I'm reliving the memories and David's just amazing! <3

  • These guys are the best in my opinion. They have the moves and beat box and.....

  • I've watched tons of these accapella renditions. This by far one of the best ever! Buh-Dang this was sweet!

  • i absolutely hated this song... until i heard these guys sing it CLEF HANGERS ROCKK

  • Aw cool! I have "Africa" on iTunes; played it over 200x. Perhaps a very good song which I think doesn't really incorporate any African musical instruments. Go Tar Heels! Beat the Cavaliers!

  • Mikush was good in this very confident...

  • MIKUSH IS SO GOOD

  • or is that david hall?

  • Umm Pablo is not a midget, he's just on the short side.

If you want to hear him in a solo check out the clef's "Endless Night"

  • That is so ignorant.

  • The clefs give the best rendition of this song among all the a capella groups doing this same song on YT...probably the best arrangement as well.

  • I agree with you completely...and I'm not even that crazy about this song.

  • love it how they all lean back togetther...HOT and CUTE

  • anoop is a great singing and i love him to death but he should have picked better songs he kept picking songs that he enjoyed singing at they werent very good for his voice

  • anoop ftw

  • INCREDIBLEEE.

This group has so much to be proud of.

  • well i like the clef hangers' version better...

  • yeah it is. and you should watch the other videos where he's the soloist! he's fantastic.

  • omggg time is running out.

    hes so good in that.

  • yeah he is! that was actually the first song i heard by the clefs and i was like, the soloist's voice is soo good. also, check out "ain't nothin' wrong with that" and "at last." mikush is amazing in those.

  • ya i know i like aint nothin wrong with that, with their little dance moves.

    haha.

  • im from Africa l0l.

    i lovee you guys!!!

  • I prefer the second version, the key on this on sounds a little weird, that other one is damn perfect!

  • I've seen other a capella groups cover this same song.Clef Hangers version is the best.the soloists are dope.

  • this one is one of my absolute favorites EVER!

my mom and aunt love this song! :D

    lol.

  • These guys are so inspiring! :). every single person is a great singer. u cant miss that! :). Lovin watching all their vids at the mo! :)

  • just one word... AWESOME! :) i didnt expect being an anoop fan on AI could lead me to discover something even more amazing!

  • wohohohoh,way to go clefs.

  • Wow... wow! This was fantastic! By far the best version of this song I've ever heard.

  • im from south africa , wer dis song was made n they sing it good

  • This song was written by two Americans who have never been to Africa.

  • .. who HAD never been to Africa, when they wrote the song. They actually played at Nelson Mandela's birthday, about 10 years back ;-)

  • That's what I meant to say =)

  • who cares. it's a great song

  • Cool version. Love it!

  • Props to all of them for this one. Executed perfectly. And double props to David Hall.. sheesh. Belt it out, kid

  • anyone know how many cds these guys put out and which songs they put on them?

  • They put out a new CD every two years now (but record songs in the studio and accumulate them for the next CD every year), so they've put out a dozen or so in the 31 years they've been around. Some are still available, including Facing Clarence (2005) and TIME OUT (2007) - check their website: clefhangers (dot) see ohh emm, where you can listen to samples and order them mailed to you. Their latest will be released at their Spring Concert this April 25. Anoop Desai has solos on all 3 of these.

  • thanks dude. goin to order them all right now.

  • ahhh you guys are sickkk!! very well done

  • Emily+Anoop forever

  • Clefs have it over SNC! No Muzak, just great rhythm and lots of soul!!!

  • David Mikush is a hotty...love u David...pls send my regards to him...

  • David Mukish---sooooo hot!!!! ANNNNNOOOP you go man.

  • BEST VERSION ON YOUTUBE! HANDS DOWN! Brand NEW Clef Hangers FAN!

    Thanks Anoop!

  • this is good stuff... i just really wish i could hear the solos just a little better. The vocal jazz ensemble where i go to school did a version of this song and it was great. you guys are great as well. the dancing definitely makes it more fun to watch

  • A couple weeks ago" Clefhangerfan" posted a second version of Africa, you can actually hear the solo's a lot better!

  • I love ANOOP!

  • okay, i am a fan!! you guys are awesome. i will definately be voting for anoop and might even try to catch your april concert! thanks for the ear candy!!!

  • I was wondering what kind of subjects the clef hangers do at college? Are they on musical paths or is this just for fun?

  • A wide variety, actually - Business, Economics, Political Science, Psychology, Biochemistry, Public Policy, etc. Brandon Jackson Baird (graduated last year) is entering Medical School. Very few Music majors, actually, although several minors in Music. Pablo Vega. who graduated last year (see my video "Endless Night") was a Music or Music Performance major, and hopes to teach and score films/musicals I think. I would say it's mostly for fun - A Cappella doesn't make you rich (maybe Anoop!!).

  • are you kidding me? SNC is great...but Clefs blow them outta the water with this version.

  • Check out their 2nd version of Africa posted yesterday. These guys are great performers and make the song so much more interesting.

  • the original straight no chaser (and i mean the members from 1996) version of this song is a lot better, but i really like how they changed the song--they made it a lot more fun, from an audience point of view

  • anooopp dooowgg FOR AMERICAN IDOL...

he better win! vote up when time comes!

  • If you guys like David Hall, I really suggest watching "Disengage." It's amazing.

  • I love this! I just watched Straight No Chaser's version and people are commenting how they like the Clef's better. :) I agree.

  • Actually, I like the dancing. The song is upbeat and I can't imagine this song being done just standing around. Besides, they never get of the rhythm.

  • LOVE YOU, DAVID HALL!

  • The lead was a bit overpowered in the first few minutes but what a breathtaking arrangement! WOW!!

  • this song is so damn good. I just LOVE when they sing the chorus

  • mmh hard to say who I think is better... I like this version really a lot, but I'm just a big fan of SNC,

But even when that doesn't have anything to do with the singing, you guys are really cute =P

  • I love when they lean back! lol. (: it is so cute.

  • The first soloist looks like someone very special to me (:

  • OHHH MY GAHHH! :D this is absolutely amazing. I love love love it, and them. such talented boys (:

  • This version is by far better than Straight No Chaser. For one reason, no falsetto on the chorus. SO key!

  • Amen!

  • Never have I loved africa more than ever after hearing this!!~~

    thanks guys =)

  • This is alright but if you want a great version of it check out Straight no Chaser.

  • No disrespect, friend, and no slam to Straight No Chaser, but ARE YOU SERIOUS???? This arrangement is epic and trumps any other a cappella attempt. Period. Year after year, the Clerfs KILL this with tremendous voices, percussion, and harmonies. Let's just be honest about it.

  • SNC was clearly a great group 10 years ago - I've watched several of their vids now and like them. But, sorry - their arrangement for Africa is weak, doesn't cut it. My vids just use the camera mic,and this one might not be their best rendition - just one I happened to tape. Can't agree with you - Clefs own a cappella 'Africa'. Clef fans - agree??? May be time for a throwdown... :-)

  • I totally agree. Straight No Chaser aren't bad but this is beyond epic. Straight no chaser had no feeling in the song, especially when the lyrics guy was silent.

  • Well said - I agree completely.

  • Absolutely freakin' amazing.Tried to find a good version ,but your's seems to be the only one. THANX

  • They have great blend and decent soloists, but the arrangement could be more complex - e.g. incorporation of "bells" and not simply held block chords. Definitely impressive though - great vocal perc.

  • my high school choir does a battle of the sections pops concert every year. is there anyway to order the music for this version by them?

  • you guys are amazing......is this a student run group on campus?

  • Absolutely - completely member/student run. They write their own arrangements, produce their own CD's, manage all of their appearances, etc. - self governed. They are sponsored by the General Alumni Association on campus, which provides them rehearsal and office space, admin support, and many other support functions, but the Clefs are well organized and run it all. They just celebrated their 30th Anniversary as a group - long standing a cappella excellence on the UNC-CH campus, to be sure...

  • how old are you guys

  • College age - roughly 18 to 23.

  • This is my favorite Clef song. So good.

  • best a capella version so far... Loved it!

  • can't get enough of this

  • i like this better than toto's version. this is so rich.

  • I love the way David Hall sings it though. He should get to sing his own solo.

  • David Bardin used to do the higher part of the trio in the chorus, and he was very good at it, probably the best. He was known for it really.

  • please tell me this will be on BOCA 2008. it MUST be!

  • is there somewhere i can download an mp3 of this? did they ever record it?

  • WOW!!! what a STUNNING arrangement !

  • it really is alot better in concert

  • it's a lot better live... they're still amazing though

  • A phenomenal arrangement! Sounds great! I just wish I could hear the lead a bit better. He was overpowered by the group a lot in the first verse. But you guys are rockin'!

  • this song is their specialty

  • I miss Bardin.

And why is there a piano on stage? Sorry wasn't at the concert.

  • The piano was just a prop - their theme for the concert was sort of set in a dinner club/night club, so they had small cafe tables set up, a piano, etc. Just a prop - no accompaniment!

  • Thanks Mike (this is John P.), I was wondering what that was all about. Very classy of them, though.

  • who's bardin?

  • David Bardin graduated and left the group at the end of last year. He was famous for singing the high part in Africa that David Hall now sings. See David Bardin as the soloist on Don't Stop Believein'.

  • i love it! you guys totally own that song. Definitely the best a cappella cover of it i've ever heard.

  • THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!
