  • Buy a new furnace. I gaurantee the flames will stay on.

  • flame sensor garenteed

  • sand down the flame sensor, probably the problem!

  • Natural gas or LP?

Either way, your problem is gas pressure.

The gas pressure regulator needs replaced.

Do not disassemble and try to repair the regulator

Know if your furnace is Natural gas or LP gas. This will determine which regulator you will need.

Natural gas runs on about 3.2 inches of water column, whereas LP runs on 11 or 12 inches water column pressure.

Your gas provider may replace the regulator, or you can buy one for around $50.

  • first chekc if the thermo-coupling is good tight to the gas valve this thermo-coupling works with micro voltage and need to be good tight (good contact) on gaz valve , it does not work replace the thermo-coupling with a new one and make sure that the pilot flame is right in the middle of the therm-coupling

  • OMG...This is the problem with the internet....fools trying to diagnose and fix, who are not trained. some idiots talking about pressure switches....and jumping out limits.....It is obviuosly the flame rod......BUT only a fool uses sandpaper or emery board to clean it.....that will leave scratches and cause premature failure. green scotchbrite pad...only....not steel wool or anything else.also do not use dryer sheets in the vacinity of furnace...it offgasses chemichal which attacks flame rod...

  • flame sensor or exhaust blower vacuum switch perhaps

  • Check flame sensor and do flame sensor current check @ burner control.

  • my riello oil burner wont stAY ON WHAT SHOULD I CHECK

  • @steff819 Check your Cad Eye. It proves the presence of a flame. If it gets dirty/oily/sooty it can not detect the flame and will shut the unit off. Just clean it.

  • more than likely a dirty flame sensor remove and clean off carbon

  • change or clean flame sensor

  • You should call an HVAC tech in. I am one but I don't live in your area. Could be one of a couple of things and you if you aren't schooled on electricity and gas troubleshooting I wouldn't recommend you working on it. If you are versed in how to you a multimeter....should be a quick fix though. Good luck

  • CadilacVin21, Im currently a student studying HVACR. How would your fuel source convey through the air ducts? The combustion chamber is an enclosed heat transfer component with a forced draft. The exhaust fan would convey the unignited fuel source through the exhaust vent and dump it outside.

  • Just had the same problem with my York Diamond 80. Super easy fix. Flame sensor is very visible and accessible. 1 screw slides right out. Cleaned it up with my wifes emery board. The actual repair took about 3 minutes. Thanks guys

  • flame sensor problem ,need replaced for a new one

  • Just yesterday my furnace turned on and i heard the exhaust fan then i saw the glow igniter light up then I heard the loud tick but it did not ignite then the blower motor turned on and gas started flowing through the ducts and i had to hurry up and shut it off before the furnace decide to light up and ignite and then the house would of blown up. I got my boards replaced and flame sensor and valves it works great. 85,000 BTU, which is 1,000 pounds of thrust

  • And no it is not the gas pressure. If you see the flames light up like you did in the video that is 1,000 pounds of thrust than it cant be pressure.

  • And yes like everyone is saying the flame sensor is the most common problem. What it does is after you here the loud tick (which is for the gas to start flowing) the gas ignites and you will see flames 3 seconds after you see flames the furnace shuts the gas off and you will not see flames anymore this could be the flame sensor which if no flame are detected after 3 seconds of the ignition switch it will do and emergency shut down

  • Im 15 years old and I know a lot about this stuff. It could be that the booster fan that pushes the gas to produce the thrust into the blower motor for the flames is surging or the valves for the exhaust fan and blower motor are not switching correctly and/or you should shut your gas switch off and turn your furnace switch off and clean your valves there are back draft plates that open when gas is going through but if something is to back fire they close maybe something is stuck in there.

  • I'm having problems with my furnance right now, the blower is working but the pilot won't stay lit and it's blowing out cold air. Can anybody help me? Tjam*

  • Yes!!!

Thank you for giving your tips to fix this problem. It took me 5 minutes to do this assignment. I took the metal rod out and cleaned it then put it back.....Turn on the furnace system...It works. Thank you again.

  • Very rarely is a flame sensor bad, its simply a grounding rod. It may need to be cleaned , but even thats rarely any issue. More common is the presure switch that proves the induced draft fan is running, its connected via a hose to the induced draft housing and the orifice that the hose connects to gets obstructed with carbon, take a tiny drill bit and ream out the orifice/nipple on the induced draft housing where the pressure switches hose connects, check moisture in hose and leaking in hose.

  • @poopsmashed The gas valve wouldnt have opened if the pressure switch wasnt sensing induced draft. The unit lights and shuts down, thus indicating a faulty flame sensor.

    It's the thermocouple.. Change it.

  • Definitely the flame sensor...I was having thi problem a few days ago. Look for a metal rod as previously described by one of the other post and clean it using sand paper ( I used an emory board for finger nail filing). Power up your furnace and you shoukld be good to go.

  • Flame sensor is most likely the problem.. Look for a stainless tube about the size of a ink pen filler in the front flame end of the burners.. usally one screw holds it in place. take it out clean it lightly with fine steel wool and reinstall it. Your furnace should work.. MERRY CHRISTMAS..!

  • Flame sensor

  • more than likely your flame sensor

  • I had a similar problem and my problem was the pressure of gas was low. I called the gas company and they changed the regulator. When my furnace lite the flame of the pilot went low and didn't reach the thermocouple.

  • Hi Im a handy_man i been doing Hvac for th e last 3 years, I have the situation on one of my service call, and it wast the board on the back a diodo wast burn out, and that make my furnace shot off after 3 sec,of been on.... the flame sensor is not wonna fix it. remove your board and check on the back....

  • its most likely a thermocouple..easy fix if you know exactly where it is

  • Dokcheri, make sure your flue is clean. Remove the tube that connects the pressure switch and make sure it's not clogged at all. As for this video, cleaning the flame sensor will most likely solve this.

  • My furnace wont keep running. Light blinks 3 times indicating bad press. sw. Replaced sw. and still does same if i jiggel the wire haness i can get it to work but not consistant

  • Flame sensor is bad or dirty. Take it out and clean it.

  • pull out flame sensor and clean with sandpaer or sos pad

  • im also having this issue. please post answer

  • you need to clean the flame sensor i think - pretty easy fix. it happened to me last year - i googled the problem and voila.

  • the case migt need to be on
