  • let me eat your babies nom nom nom nom

  • This just goes to show that cryonics (the freezing of humans @ LN2 temps) was not done in vain...at some point in the future every single cell and tissue type can be regenerated through some future stem cell technology. That means fixing, repairing and swaping out cells until someone once frozen can be woken up. Stem cell technology proves that it is at least possible to do! We shall have to wait and see!

  • banning research into something this beneficial while investing billions into nuclear weapons ..what me worry.?

  • Other recent MS patients who have had Autologous Stem Cell Transplantation (ASCT), or stem cell therapy have posted videos and comments on YouTube v=jFQr2eqm3Cg. Log on to ccsviclinic. ca for more information.

  • You want to know how well socialist medicine works? In 2005 my wife was taking a few pills for arthritis and leading a normal healthy life. Then Pelosi takes over the US Congress and puts her lap dog in the White House and now my wife is in a wheel chair living in pain and may have cancer. That's what socialist medicine gives you.

  • Let the world be a witness what trusting greedy rich Marxists like Pinch Sulzberger and George Soros has done to America once the wealthiest country on Earth with a 5% unemployment rate in 2005 before Soros and Sulzberger financed a propaganda hate campaign to get their prostitute Nancy Pelosi running Congress, See how they doubled our unemployment? Yeah, trust them.

  • Who do you greedy damn Marxists expect to take care of vast populations of the elderly you're conning all the money out of with massively inflated medical costs when on the other end you're killing off their grandchildren in abortion mills? The Muslims? They're the ones having kids now. How much taxes you expect from them?

  • Marxists are so greedy they help Russians sell tanks and AK-47s to fascist dictators in Libya and Syria and Iraq that kill their fellow Marxists who end up getting tortured in Gulags and buried in mass graves while their rich Marxist media monopoly pals are drinking champaign and doing bank deals with Nazis.

  • Marxists are so greedy they don't see anything wrong with telling poor women to kill their own babies so they can save money on child support. Marxists are so greedy they sabotage American space programs benefitting the whole human race in order to help their Marxist buddies in Russia steal money from American space programs American Christian like Von Braun beat them to the Moon. doing,

  • The only thing Marxists have ever been intellectually superior to everybody else in is running con games to make themselves richer and murdering people since people with a belief in a Day of Judgment have personal integrity issues atheists don't feel handicapped by. We had more medical breakthroughs before atheists started stealing more qualified reseachers' jobs and funding in political purges,

  • Socialists want population reduction not population growth so why would they want to help human beings survive? They hate the human race or they wouldn't be peddling abortion to kill human babies. They always have some angle to get more people killed off in the end one way or another. That's why socialist Russia has negative population growth. Socialists started two world wars and AIDS.

  • Typical lying bullshit from a greedy babykilling Marxist stealing research money away from everybody else for their own projects that haven't produced a single medical breakthrough that couldn't have been made just as easily without killing babies to make Marxist rich sellng quack medicine with media manipulation by their cronies getting a share of the proffits. We had more scientific breakthroughs before Marxists took over our universities in the 60s than we've had since. Fact,

  • These are adult stem cells nobody ever objected to using for research. There has not been a single damn medical breakthrough using embryonic stem cells other than that lying greedy atheist con artist over South Korea who faked his research results in order keep funding from taxpayers going into his own pockets. This is typical lying atheist propaganda to con more research funding

  • Are you people for real???? You would have to be a complete ignorant fool to pass up an opportunity that will help tens of millions that suffer on a daily basis. In vitro fertilization and abortion are going to have embryo that they will waste and through away sooo why wouldnt we take advantage of this great oppertunity. Do some research and dont be sooo blinded by you religous faiths. Stem cell reseach is the way of the future!!!!!

Stem cell reseach is the way of the future!!!!

  • this is wrong, 'embryonic stem cells can turn to any cell', but wait it kills and stops the embryo from growing. i dont understand. you can just take the Adult stem cell from a person from the nessecary body part and give to the same part of the victim who needs it! for an example, if you had dead tissue and needed stem cells to repair that, then just take the tissue stem cells from the doner and give it to the victim! Just like that! Damn liberals, you dont have to kill an embryo, you stoped it.

  • @acdcphsico Countless embryos are already being destroyed because of being thrown away by fertility clinics due not being used. So, tell me, what is worse? Allowing them to be thrown away or using them to help a patient get at least some quality of life back? Or are you another mindless "Embryonic stem cell is bad!" drone crowd?

  • Not really. It's a developing human being. Face the facts, bro. Implant an embryo, it'll be walking within 2 years( and talking and thinking).

  • embryo nom nom nom stem cells FTW:D

  • Embryonic stem cells are nearly unnecessary since a patient's own cells can be reverted to a viable format.

  • Faster bitches faster! More money let's go already!!!

  • People who depend on what animal testing results show are idiots, it's merely a false sense of security. Thalidomide was released and deformed over a hundred thousand children because it didn't effect animals even on huge overdoses, but effected humans terribly.

Cell graphs all the way (and stem cells all the way)

  • @Ilovezebrapig Animals are depended upon before being tested onto humans. But yes, what works under a microscope may not work on an animal, what works on an animal may not work on Humans. Medical research runs on trial & error, unfortunately.

  • just notes

Spinal cord injuries -- FDA / fertilized eggs = "embryo" = a life = controversy

  • its retarded how long it takes for new medical treatment to get approved. The system that suppose to help protect people from bad treatments killed more people then it has saved!

  • @princeofexcess Stem cell Therapy? Beware you could Die from it! They give you Chemotherapy to wipe out tour immune system first! But It also could wipe you out. As is Has done with others! Dr Freedman of Ottawa Killed one of just 29 in a very expensive 4m and er very small study. a Type 1 science study error!

I have MS and will never have this as a guinea pig

  • @gekiryudojo Im not asking you to be, let other people that want the treatment take it. Our medicine would not progress at all if there be no subjects to test new medicine on. Hopefully one day enough people die in medical trials for MS so it too can be eradicated from the lists of diseases.

  • @princeofexcess it hasn't progressed! try the liberation that works!

  • @gekiryudojo Medicine has progressed a lot from middle ages. Now it has horrible regulation and is becoming more and more socialized. This slows down progress

  • @gekiryudojo Have there been any studies showing the effectiveness of those drugs? How does NHS give drugs to people that arent even helpful wasting other peoples money.

  • @princeofexcess the drug company made a deal with the NHS that if the drug was not as effective as they said they would reduced the price, it wasnt effective and they didn't reduce the price but it took a long time for the study to materialize, therefor the Med company made a lot of money on nothing, known technically as a cluster fuck

  • I should have pointed out that what I was speaking of those treatments in which the patient's own cells were used.

  • @gekiryudojo Its strange how agist people are. Just because a lot black people steal it does not mean that if you meet a black person you should treat him like a thief. And just because a lot of people my age are stupid and ignorant about economics it does not mean that you immediately win the argument with age. I know economists who spend their lives studding the subject of medicare and they agree with me. Age has nothing to do with my opinion.

  • @gekiryudojo Also I would suggest you read a short article on wikipedia about a fallacy in discussion called an ad hominem. Mostly used when a person runs out of arguments and simply wants to belittle the other and make it look like they have won the argument. Just google ad hominem.

  • @gekiryudojo Yes wiki can get certain things wrong but in this case its pretty good article and the same thing can be found in a debate textbook. It is about formal debate and deals with attacking the source rather then argument (just like you do by stating that wiki is often wrong or that im too young to "understand" )

  • @princeofexcess attacking the source of the illness is a good thing

  • @gekiryudojo but they don't Know what it is

  • Not necessarily, there are a few cases where a patient needs an immune suppressant, such as the 15 diabetic people who had the stem-cell treatment a few years back. But that was because their ability to create the hormone needed are naturally destroyed by the immune system. Much more treatments can be done without the risk of rejection and side effects. More research is needed concerning both stem cell behavior and the mechanisms of the diseases and these "guinea pigs" will help them progress.

  • @gekiryudojo

You do know that few of treatments need such harsh immune suppressant correct? These doctors ask for permission and clearly state the risks for such procedure to the patient. I give all my respect to them.

  • shhh.

  • @gekiryudojo Stem-Cell Research!

  • Comment removed

  • @gekiryudojo Hm, Don't know about you, but from my experience, there had been numerous of cases in which stem-cell research had help a patient with health problems, including a a case that cut the AIDS Virus in a German Patient, a Trachea replacement, numerous therapies that helped both animals and people with a neurological problem, and many other cases that had gone successfully. It's still in it's early stages, but it is very promising. Seeing it as "evil" is truly pathetic in my eyes.

  • I may be younger than you, but it is clear that I am more reasonable and far more respectful than you will ever be. Goodbye

  • @rubbertireishot These "successes" were via the use of adult stem cells. There have been no such successes with the use of embryonic cells.

  • @oran6es who care where the stem cells come from as long as it could work

why do people care if they are using embryonic or ones from marrow this could save your life and may other and improve more lives and i bet when ur on your death bed or in agony your gona want this research one no matter what

  • @Petoroxx Why do people care? Cannibalism of our own young is not really progress. Hitler said, "why do people care if we experiment on Jews, they're less human, and we'll find faster cures" 19th century slaveowners said, "why do people care what we do with the negro, we can get more done, and they're less human." Well, as a physician who knows what a developing human individual is, I'm thankful that there are MANY people who care.

  • @oran6es wow sorry what are you the inquisition? those baby's are already dead are you saying you can't accept an organ donation? what are you a Mormon?

  • @Petoroxx Silly rabbit, those embryos are ALIVE and developing. Forced to develop in separate petrie dishes, converting a young living developing human into marketable commodities. A sad phase of humanity indeed.

  • @oran6es no because they wouldnt exist if they weren't going to be used and what are you some fanatic who probably things masturbation is mass murder

this isnt human trafficking dont be so deluded

and go join PETA they need more crazys like you

    PRO CHOICE FTW!!!!!

  • @Petoroxx Naa. Masturbation is just a waste of time. PETA ? No thanks. By the way, the egg of a bald eagle and the egg of some turtles are protected by law and the human embryo isn't. Go figure. Pro choice? As a taxpayer I want CHOICE to not fund bogus auto-cannibalizing research, and the CHOICE not to fund abortion, domestic or abroad.

  • @oran6es It's goo, get over it.

  • @Codeusa Yeah, you sound like my teacher! its not just goo, its a living oraganism about to grow into a human. To me, it almost sounds like murder. your stopping an oraganism from growing to a human baby! this research just makes me SICK.

  • @acdcphsico at this stage its basiclly just bacteria in a sense.it doesnt feel pain,it doesnt think,it doesnt know hate or love.yes forcing this on people would be wrong but if someone is going to have abortion dont you thibk that even though that child wont be able to live a life it would be good to use it to help someone else....and what if that child WAS born. what if it was born with a disease its self...what if they were blind or they wertn able to walk or anything bad..what then.

  • @Codeusa Yeah, you sound like my teacher! its not just goo, its a living oraganism about to grow into a human. To me, it almost sounds like murder. your stopping an oraganism from growing to a human baby! this research just makes me SICK. its like we are the lab rats now! you understand?

  • @oran6es they arnt living TRUELY, they dont not feel, they do not hate or love or feel pain and they do not provide anything useful to anything around it in the living world. if this child is already not going to be bron because of abortion it would be right to use this cell to help people that need it. i mean its not like the cell will grow a brain inside the person and think like a normal human being. your basicly saying injecting a white blood cell into someone else would be murder.

  • @imdakingofny After you forced the infant to develop as separate pieces in separate dishes, it can't feel, because you pulled it apart earlier. Misuse of a living developing human. Not really murder, more like slavery: the total inappropriate control of one group of humans over another group.

  • @imdakingofny but you are freaking making the baby to be born, it is true the egg is being aborted but come on it is fertilized with dna and then suppose to grow into a fetus, but it is killed. Come on... this is freaking murder!

  • @MrTennisMenace i mean ya it is murder, but it does HELP people also...its an incredibly hard thing for me to take a stance on

  • ESCR is necessary to be conducted alongside ASCR. It's like trying to build an aeroplane without a knowledge of aerodynamics.

  • Is this study working or not?

  • @aeroshock1 If it was working you would have heard about it. It appears to me to be unethical AND ineffective.

  • @oran6es Hasn't started yet. It'll start in July 2010. It's not unethical either, the embryo's used are taken from in-vitro fertilization clinics and they were otherwise marked for incineration not from abortions and not from therapeutic cloning.

  • @neon3188 Doesn't matter. Spare embryos no less human. Cells from 9 month "stem cell line" same as infant cells. Stem cells from umbilical cells good. Misuse of any living humans bad.

  • @oran6es The blastocyst (Bundle of cells) itself begins to differentiate into specified cell types after 5 days. It's not even an embryo yet. In-vitro fertilization clinics are where infertile couples go, they take 6 or 7 eggs from the woman and fertilize them with her husbands sperm then they implant the zygote back into the female. If 4 out of 6 take and the woman wants 1 kid the rest are going to be incinerated. So you're saying incinerate them instead of possibly finding the cure 4 cancer?

  • @neon3188 Implantation of embryonic stem cells CAUSES cancer(google pictures of teratomas). Much more valuable research will come from induced pleuripotent somatic cells( taking a skin cell from a cancer patient(same DNA) de-differentiating it, and determining the trigger mechanism for cancer cell development.

Natural death of a spare blastocyst preferred over the unnatural forced life of the manipulated embryo( developed infant parts in separate dishes)

  • @oran6es I won't argue the point that injection of ''Raw'' stem cells would run the risk of causing cancer. However if these raw stem cells are coaxed into becoming a specific cell time such as a glial cell (A cell that remyelinates damaged neurons from a spinal cord injury or disease) then the results are simply astounding. They don't want to inject raw stem cell's into anything because that's clearly asinine. IPSC carry great potential, but they are many YEARS away from the clinic.

  • @neon3188 That glial cell isn't a stem cell. It's more accurately called an infant cell after maturity, at least in my embryology textbook it is. Who gets the embryos(finite supply) if it works? ......and newsflash, uterine implantation will allow the embryo to walk within 2 years. Known potential > unknown potential.

  • @oran6es I don't recall ever saying a glial cell was a stem cell. I said that they can coax ESC's into becoming glial cells. Glial cell's have been proven to restore massive amounts of function when implanted into an animal model with spinal cord injury. We'll see if it works in humans next month I suppose.

  • @oran6es well said!

  • Had a neighbor who went through SCC International (407) 610-4248 -- and coordinated a medical evaluation by an Asian doctor. They had to travel to an overseas treatment center, but their condition totally REVERSED. it was incredible.

  • Your statement is almost correct. ESCs don't work. ASCs work!

  • @savemyplaylist yeah and going to the moon was just a dream....creating something that moves fast that ISN'T pulled by a horse was just a dream...FLYING IN THE AIR was just a dream....be more open minded buddy

  • i am against abortion completely

but a lot of babys will be aborted anyway

might az well use them to save lives

    stem cells are amazing

  • yes but no embryonic stem cells have been used to cure anything. the only stem cell that helped people are adult stem cells.

  • Nice list of diseases. Only problem, there's only 400k "spare" embryos. Use up a bunch for research, clinical trials, etc.

Disease 1: Diabetes: 24 MILLION Americans and climbing.

    Disease 2: Parkinson's: Millions more

Disease 3:Paralysis: A million or so, maybe more?

    Disease 4: Need I go on ?

DO THE MATH, you're going to need A LOT MORE EMBRYOS, DUDE.

Will your wife(if you have one) be willing to donate some eggs?

Please divert your talents to more promising more realistic

    research.

  • yur retarded

embryonic stem cells regenerate themselves. each embryo contains at least 30 stem cells, 400k embroys means 1200k stem cells, stick those in culture dishes and in a few months you get over 10000k stem cells. there is an unlimited supply of stem cells, its just how you use it and how it works that matters.

    do yur research

  • Incorrect. As a stem cell replicates, it differentiates. In 8 weeks they're fetal cells. In 38 weeks, they're newborn cells.

If they regenerate into more stem cells, then you'd only need one embryo forever.

    You are incorrect.

  • stem cells are retrieved from the inside of a blastocyte. since the inside is scooped out, the outer part is discarded. therefore, it cannot grow and develope without the outer shell, so it doesnt grow into a child

  • Incorrect again. The inner mass cells become all cells in the more mature body. They do become all of the cells of the human body, via forced survival into later stages of development. The only difference: they've been artificially separated from each other. Mature heart, nerve, skin, pancreatic, etc. cells arise from this group of inner cell mass cells as do those in the intact embryo.

  • what does the outer shell do? just encase it?

  • The outer shell becomes the placenta and the umbilical cord.

  • ah i see

how come some of our stem cells remained stem cells in our bone marrow? what made it stay as stem cells?

  • Totally different cells. Bone marrow stem cells become different types of blood cells(macrophages, neutrophils, etc.), hence their use in treating leukemia.

  • its 1.2million cells, not 1200k.

  • sorry

  • k = 1000. 1200k is 1.2 million.

  • 1.2million is the same as 1200k... Same value it doesn't matter what units are used.

  • a warning to all americans considering stem cell treatments in mexico. watch out for a con artist named frank morales MD. he stole thousands of dollars from my wife and i and anyone who would like more details please contact me.

  • Every time science has a breakthrough, they need more time. 10 years, 50 years, by 2500 AD something could possibly happen.... I'm tired of it. Either admit it's a lie and that they just want money for nothing, or lets us know when there's real progress and the consequences are minute.

I'm not against this research but I am against getting peoples hopes up. Again, do something or cram it already.

  • Show the taxpayers pictures of the teratomas when they develop, please.

  • Comment removed

  • Consuming our own young, giving a sick patient a new tumor, brilliant advancement, just brilliant.

  • what a breakthrough wow! wait another decade!

  • Science never needed religion or any ideological system for its support or advancement, and the best scientific research centers today have nothing at all to do with religion. On the contrary, any faith-based system opposes any scientific inquiry that relies on evidence, free investigation, and reason.

  • Religion is the method whereby humans can rationalize their awful behavior to other humans and pawn it off as good deeds. The last time religion ruled the western world, the result was the Dark Ages. For a thousand years we allowed magical thinking to retard the advancement of knowledge, and the progress of humanity.

Ignorance and superstition lurk at the fringes of our society. "Men never commit evil so fully and joyfully as when they do it for religious convictions"

    -- Blaise Pascal

  • all time saying big step bla bla question when?its will be happen 10 years later ....we need now

  • kov, Let me give you a clue. It has been !~ 11 years since the first ESC was isolated and guess how many cures they have to show for their research? Yep, You're Right - 0 -.

As you indicated, People need help NOW. With that said, check-out how many people have been helped with ASCR.

  • HELP ANY ADVICE ?

can stem cell help my 21 year who is very in a critical condition who had a heart transplant at the age of 16 now is 21 and 2 months in ICU, and 3 week ago had cardiac arrest so now he have no brain function and can't move his neck and down body part. i don want to lost him.

  • It depends on whether the nerve cells in his brain actually died or whether it happened in a particular part of the brain stem. If the brain itself is damaged, it's very unlikely that any person could come back without at the very least, amnesia...but there is hope depending on where the brain or spinal cord is damaged... Stem cell research hasn't advanced that far as of yet though...

  • *** NEW STEM CELL BREAKTHROUGH***

I watched this entire video, many times. Still trying to figure out, where the "New Stem Cell Breakthrough" is,,, or when it is,,, or how it is,,, or is it a breakthrough or is it just liberal hype?

  • they can actually use this to help people now that obama got things running

  • Dre - "They can actually us this to help people..." And how is that going to be accomplished/?

  • 0:08 - 0:16

  • dre - Nice try. But, that's not an answer. The actual fact is, embryonic stem cells "...have not been kept in a culture dish..."

Now! Do you want to answer the question ?

  • Dre - There are NO NEW STEM CELL BREAKTHROUGHS - In ESCR!

And I'm sorry that you wasted your time by perpetuating a lie.

  • Uhmm...the media always likes to exaggerate any story they can find so that people will get fooled into watching. That's why I don't trust the media in getting me the medical news I want. If you want real news about stem cell research advancements, read some science journals or go to science websites (make sure they're legit).

  • Yes! But what is your point for me? I know ESCR doesn't work. I know ASCR has and is helping people today.

As for reading scientific journals,,,, I do it on a regular basis.

  • What about Pixie dust ?

It has regrown a finger from the knuckle down.

Its made from pigs stomach ?

  • You have to be a special individual to be able to use Pixie Dust.

What has regrown a finger from the knuckle down? You mean the lizard?

What's made from pig stomach? Oh, you mean like haggis, but a little different?

  • And yet another method where, liberals of this country can PISS AWAY our tax dollars. There are Billions of Tax Dollars, earmarked to be dumped into this useless program, and yet, , , Why aren't those tax dollars going into hASCR? This ASC proceedure has proven to be successful. But, that's what you get when you elect a dumb ASS.

  • what makes you think stem cell research is a wast of money its been tested for like 17 years with no funding and it works it can cure any thing do you even understand how it works you dumb son of a bitch it is the cure of all sickness with tax money (the liberals piss away) and by the way i us to not like obama but i like him he is smart and a democrat not liberal but i like liberals

  • charles - First, a little education for you. Stem Cell Research has been going on for decades. The first hESC was isolated eleven years ago. As for funding, The United States Government is not the only place in the world with research money. In fact, The State of California has set aside a ton of money for ESCR. Not to mention the rest of the world. You say,,,"...and it works it can cure any thing..." OK, kid, if it can cure anything, l only want you to list one thing it has cured.

  • Comment removed

  • Do you reckon you can grow back teeth ?

  • Not using ESCs.

  • Hey, it's you again. Last we met, wasn't it on a big bang forum? Or was that someone else. Either way, it was a religiously fuled debate, and a fine one at that. Well, good to see ya here. The debates just got interesting (Gormanmod aside). But wait, are you Pro ESCR, or against it? (before we start) I'm pro myself.

  • Andrew,

Was it music? Mathematics, or Black Holes? Wait, "Celtic Woman, New Journey - Intro + The Sky The Dawn & the Sun. Oh Well, no matter.

As for ESCR, , We've been trying to make it work for decades. Huge hope came in 1997/1998, but, again, there were and are failures in this area...But, RDV, it simply doesn't work the way many researchers want it to. Don't think you and I ever discussed this ,,,

  • It was the big bang/creationist topic, I remember now. But anyway, no we've not discussed this [yet]. And, though I won't go too far tonight due to the fact that I have to type from my Wii (comp's down) I have rebuttle for this. More tomorrow (from a real computer).

  • Andrew, Tomorrow then.

  • Alright, comps up, time for some fun. Now, you say that ESCR is not practical due to its longterm studies and failures. But really, if that were the case for many areas of science (not just the bilogical spectrum), we'd have given up long ago on persuits that, for the longest time seemed for naught, but finally succcess was obtained. Now, I'm not saying fund the hell out of ESCR, but don't throw it to the curb either, just give it more attention than what was previously allowed. Fair, no?

  • This is Great.

When my kid was born me and his mother went to a company named Cord Blood America to store my babies umbilical cord stem cells just in case my child comes down with an illness in the future.

Stem Cells can cure several disease and illnesses to be against that is wicked.

God created science and stem cells.

  • i agree

  • Does anyone know what happened to these patients yet?

  • Nope, I guess they just stopped reporting on the matter and fixed themselves back to the economy. Too bad, I rather liked the mass media's change of pace for once. Ah well...that's life for ya.

  • "If the research does not yield the fruitful possibilities we hoped for, at least we can say we tried. So one solution can be crossed out for another. It's how science works, But in the end the medical waste/embryos will still remain frozen in an inmate state with know detectable pulse or tear, and the world will still go round. "

Hell, thats what I've been trying to say. But people just won't hear of it. Thanks for putting it clearly!

  • have to go now

Going to hand out about 1000 new flyers.

Everyone always Google Tom Heneghan & Stew Webb to keep up to date where the media doesn't.

Footnote: I have been invited to Astoria where I was last spring & also to McCarren Park which I was at last year too.

I love Queens & Brooklyn as well.

Check out again Google Jane Bowell Brooklyn bridge & the link to The Passion of the Christ

I look forward to working with Mel Gibson & also with many associated with Jesus Christ Superstar!!!

  • Years away... Thanks Bush. Glad you delayed the inevitable so more people could suffer.

  • Yeah, really. Only favor bush did us (in that area you conservatives...don't get your panties in a bunch) was to even allow it to continue in the first place. Beyond that, he was a hell of a road block to the scientific community. Hell, in just shy of a decade, imagine how much decent research could have been accomplished with federal funding. But I guess killing that many more people who aren't american was more important. Thanks for soooooooo much mister bush!!!! NOT!!!!

  • COOL! I love stem cells! I hope scientists can perfect it in my life time. If not, I wish to be help in Suspended Animation.

  • Neither do you. What you receive from your brain is nothing but electric signals. So if life doesn't matter, why not do it limitless? Sure, lets take all people from 9 hours to 90 years.

if life doesn't matter, why shouldn't we experiment on prisoners and overdose kids on behavior medicines and make each other all a bunch of happy robots.

See, what a wonderful world, eh? Only people with money and position will get out of being scientifically subjugated.

  • Gormanmod said"

"What you receive from your brain is nothing but electric signals. So if life doesn't matter, why not do it limitless? Sure, lets take all people from 9 hours to 90 years...."

Your comparison is wrong. I can see what ookami16 is saying, and in fact have argued the same point myself. The only thing that is wrong about his (or her, IDK) argument is how you twist it around to sound vile! If you're going to participate in such discussions from now on, then use some damn logic!

  • Comment removed

  • Yes, but what ookami16 is saying is that (though true genetically spaeking) an embryo is not a human as determined from a sociological standpoint. It is not a functioning member of any society, nor is it even developed enough to count as a funtioning human being. Genetics aside, its nothing more than a mass of cells with no concept of pain or self awareness. In effect, at that stage of developement, it is equall to any other mass of cells that size, only it holds possible medical benefits. Logic

  • Apparently it does have a function: stem cell harvesting.

Also, think about what you said. What is pain? How do you define it? And on what grounds do you know that pain exists only in the form of how humans perceive it. That's quiet a bit of mammalian chauvinism. How DO you know how other life forms perceive pain? Pain is, in its essence, nothing more than a means of alerting a thing to a stimulus. So how is a cell responding to a stimulus any different?

  • Well, according to what I've studied thus far (remember I'm not a bio major but have taken a course or two in the area) other organisms percieve pain in roughly the same fashin that we do, through a series of networking nerve cells that lead to a main convergance of master control cells (in us a brain). Now seeing that at the early stages of developement an embryo shows no signs of actually posessing such a formed organ, its safe to assume that it does not yet notice such things as pain...

  • That's for mammals. What about everything else?

  • Why leave the realm of the discussion? We're talking about humans, fetuses, and embryo's. Of what concern is it to go outside this spectrum of decorum?

  • Now this arguement is dependant upon the stage of development that the "human" is in. If you're speaking of anything after 14 weeks, then there's an arguement to be had, but between 5 and 14 weeks, I'd have to say that the developmental stages have not yet allowed for a "brain" to yet form, such that the fetus can yet feel pain. But that aside, when in the lab the stem cells themselves feel no pain. To argue on that front would proove fruitless. And I fail to see how I portray any superiority?!
