Though I applaud the good intentions of Marianne Williamson in working for spirituality and peace, I don't think it could come about by attempting to introduce a pure and holy concept such as Peace, into a deeply corrupt and flawed system. She starts by admitting that its "a total system failure", and yet she wants to introduce something good into it. That's like redecorating the Titanic. We need a total system change, a "new heaven and a new earth", by Spirit, not matter.
Expanding government to include a department of Peace requires raising additional taxes so corrupt politicians can appoint their friends and contributors to high paid positions.
Freedom and peace can never come through group or political action.
The government is an inefficient, bureaucratic mess. It's programs always turn out to cost more than expected.
You must be a fan of George Bush. You seem to be saying, "you're with us or you're against us." that is, if I don't support this crazy idea of Marianne's, I must be against peace! Remarkable!
It's really that kind of binary thinking in people that hardens the heart and makes war possible. You've met the enemy of peace: it is you.
there already is a "United States Institute of Peace", a federal think tank. Unfortunately President Bush has been appointing war-mongers to the board - example Daniel Pipes is one of these "War on Terror" types that advocates military intervention. It's all a sham. So unfortunately it's not about WHAT institutions we have, it's about WHO is running them.
I like that.

A frankly terrible and horrifying idea by someone who has clearly never so much as read a single book on the history of human conflict.

You're right, peace really does sound horrifying doesn't it?
In my own opinion, good job Marianne. :D I agree with her.

What a major breakthrough in our world if this happened. Perhaps one of our candidate will endorse this idea.
