Crap, I haven't done this stuff since 1987 and her steps were very simple. With those givens, drawing that model to break it all down, makes it so easy it seems like cheating. She explained it in a straight forward approach. I needed his for confidence. Thank you for posting.

i think this is the simpler as it gets..

just remember that if the radius touches the tangent, than it is perpendicular ,therefore resulting 90 degree angle... with 90 degree angle you can do simple pythagoras method to solve SR

'C' is the angle between line segments 'a' and 'b'.

When C = 90 degrees, cos(C) = 0. Technically she was using the law of cosines from trigonometry.

You could use the law of cosines to solve for the the other two angles but not for the third line segment.

The number that follows that symbol is an exponent.

c squared equals a squared plus b squared minus 2ab times the cosine of C.

I used that notation because I don't know how to encode superscripts in this message board. Another thing that might confuse people is that the notation I used is different from what's in the video. The lower case letters represent line segments and the upper case letter is an angle.

The way I say it is that the Pythagorean theorem is a special case of the law of cosines. There's probably other ways of phrasing it, but I'm not a math professor.

dude, this is the easiest fucking shit out there, you'll do fine. just remember both lines inside a circle like in the cemo are radi(radius's) and are therefore congruent.here's how to find the radius: think of the hypotenuse without R is x, the base is y. X squared - Y squared= answer. answer/2 times y=R.
