  • Was the model you tested equipped with Freedom Drive? It's not standard, without it, the patriot doesn't have the Trail Rating.

  • This is one of the better looking jeeps in recent years.

  • Of course it wouldn't compete against a Hilux...keep in mind it is in a completely different class to the Toyota and that out of the small-mid SUV's the Patriot is best in it's class. I think they are wonderful off-road :)

  • Excuse, but your car is TrailR?I consider, that towing-not the main things parametre off-roads.Though P can tow only 1,5t,but it does not reduce it off-road abilities. You say, what the P is not strong enough?2.0CRD140HP(0-100<11s)-an excellent indicator. And L engine is laid off.2.8CRD should have at least 200HP,instead of 160.Profitability 17mpg (13,8L/100km) it bad.And 0-60(0-100km)=13s it is not good.Besides Patriot on 0,5t is mobiler.General-about what dispute? It after all different classes:)

  • 8) rare met four-channel ABS, closely working with ESP, Traction, Brake Control, Brake Assist and HDC. The traction control gives the most effective acceleration and coupling besides even simulates blocking interwheel differentials, involving ABS.

SO! Somebody disagrees? Ah yes. Apologize for my english:).

  • I don't disagree that it's an excellent product because I have a UK Patriot CRD. But it is and feels like a beefed up Estate Car not a full SUV. My Cherokee (Liberty) weighs 2.1T, tows 3500kg and feels unbreakable off road. The Patriot just doesn't have that strength for serious off roading.

  • Trail rating does not exist in the UK. The UK CRD model has 140bhp and 229lbft, on road performance is better than the 2.4 petrol and 52.2mpg on Euro Highway figure. I was considering the light duty suspension, steering and gearbox components. CherokeeCRD weighs 2140kg, PatriotCRD 1645kg. The Patriot doesn't give the same unbreakable feel off road. Cherokee has 295lbft, doesn't need anymore for off road or pulling 3500kg. Both are excellent cars but designed for different markets.

  • American ideas....in Chile we have the worst ways in thw world and you can see Suzuki's and Dahiatsu's Ferozas with just 70 or 90 hp doing everything....you don't need a Tank...sorry a Humvee to have a real off road car.

  • @julioigna71 The difference is that offroading is generally a hobby in America.

  • @steelcurtain656 here as well!!

  • 6) really intellectual system of a full-time 4x4, which with the help ECC can allocate the moment not only between axes and wheels, but also foresee the sliding moments, and also to be involved at acceleration.

    7) low range for overcoming the most severe off-road. The rare crossover has low range. Compact SUV from Jeep has LR with the record 19:1. Its first time is used with CVT.

  • 4) the most moderne, World Engine 2.4L with Dual VVT, that explains his delightful power 174HP without use of turbines, compressors, superchargers...

    5) acceleration 0-60-11s at so low parameters of the fuelconsum. It is necessary to notice, that many competitors have only 2.0L engine and have the worse parameters of profitability and, certainly, dynamism.

  • 2) the best capabilities to overcoming obstacles. The record break-over angle achieved even at considerable wheel base. (for example Unlimited Rubicon 20°,8 against 23°3 Patriot). On angles Jeep Patriot can competes with such "OFF-ROADers", as Mercedes Benz G-Class, Toyota Land Cruiser 100...

    3) a baggage 652l at not combined back seats. Majority competitors has quarter is less.

  • delta999999 an advocate for Matt Liddane, but I support delta999999. I shall try to protect the Patriot. So. The patriot possesses:

    1) record clearance in the class, and also big, than at many off-road cars (even higher segment).

  • The small SUV or "Soft Roader" is one of the fastest growing markets in the UK and Europe, that's the whole point of the Patriot. The majority never go off road and the UK CRD does 52.2mpg on the EU highway figure. I have a Patriot and 2006 Cherokee (Liberty) both great for the purpose they were designed for.

  • Thanks Matt Liddane for continuing to ruin Jeep reputation as the rugged vehicles they were meant to be. Your "Patriot" will never EVER reach the 2 million mark like the Cherokee did. My 19 year old XJ with 175k original miles will smoke the HELL out of your "Jeep" It will outdrive and outlast your car, no matter how "trail rated" you say it is. People protested, but you and your friends probably were the ones to kill the XJ for something "better." Good Luck Matt, and your piece of crap Jeep...

  • I'm not an advocate for Matt Liddane but your statements are a little asinine. Point 1: "Your Patriot will never Ever reach the 2 million mark", the XJ was in production for 17 years! Few vehicles are in production that long and fewer still go that long basically unchanged.

  • Point 2: "My 19 year old XJ with 175k original miles will smoke the HELL out of your "Jeep" It will outdrive and outlast your car, no matter how "trail rated" you say it is." I can say with 100% certainty that you have never driven the Patriot so how do you know? Plus with the new unlimited powertrain warranty the Patriot probably WILL outlast your XJ.

  • Point 3: "People protested, but you and your friends probably were the ones to kill the XJ for something "better."". If you bother to read a little you will find out that most of the tooling to make the drivetrain and other parts of the XJ were just worn out from 17 years of use. There's also the matter of the tighening emission and crash test regulations, not to mention more refined competition.

  • He's attemptig to broaden the Jeep brand appeal and sales. Will the Patriot appeal to zealots like you? NO! It was never meant for someone like you, it was meant to appeal to a broad market. If you like your XJ keep it forever and take care of it. If you want a new Jeep with similar characteristics get a Wrangler.

And yes I know this is pointless.

    Cheers.

  • Let's look at DaimlerChrysler history! It was the same platform as the dodge neon, to the PT Cruiser, and then to the jeep compass, that led to the dodge caliber and now the Jeep Patriot! Jeep needs to break off in a different corporation!

  • Great. A Sewing-machine powered round headlight knockoff of the XJ.

  • ...and when did being "Trail Rated" stop being mandatory for receiving the jeep badge?

  • im diggin this suv

its perfect for mexico trips, the roads down there arent the best, and neither are the ones that ARENT paved..big rocks, hills, just crappy, especially during the wet season, this vehicle would be perfect for that, and to whoever was whining about the clearance or whatever, this isnt meant to be a true offroaders suv, if you want that, get some old ass jeep or ford truck and have fun...

  • Just wheeled a patriot (not mine thank god) this weekend, completely and totaly sucks ass!! Does not deserve the jeep badge. This thing got hung up so often on a trail that a stock wrangler in 2wd could handle.

  • While I like how it looks similar to an XJ, that thing is worthless offroad.

  • I've been trying very hard to like this vehicle, but that's proving rather difficult. The worst part about it is the terrible articulation of that cheap suspension. Anyway I did find a picture of a 2.5" lifted patriot that at least looks tight! Just do a google search for "Jeep Patriot lift". It's the seriouswheels one; it should be on the first page. Gotta love google :)

  • LOL!!! he says that a 30 something departure angle is "impressive". It doesn't even have solid axles. Don't get me wrong, I love jeeps, but this new crap is...well...crappy.

  • well. its nice to see a patriot off of paved roads...

but seriously. thats the kind of stuff i used to take my oldmobile cutlass on.

  • i don't know about you guys, but i like it,only stupid people can't see the different between a off-road or a family semi-all tearrin vehicle, but this one works for me,my dog,my wife and me we can fit in this one, heading to mexico soon

  • That's the most hilariously sterile offroad environment ever. Like the I-70 of offroad tracks. I bet 90% of 2wd trucks could make it through, if they have enough ground clearance.

  • While the shown terrain is not the Rubicon trail it is MUCH more than the average SUV driver will ever do. The Patriot is for folks that, IMO, want a good looking 4WD, that is better on gas, affordable, and has more offroad ability than the average small SUV. If you want more offroad ability there's always the Wrangler.

    Cheers,

    John
