I wanna see if the "Trail Rated" badge is still true and not something they just threw on it for shits and giggles..i have a 04WJ and im glad they kept some of the styling features in this new Jeep..but to make a Jeep it better be able to handle the smooth stuff as well as the ruff stuff that we have all come to know and love about our Jeeps!!

Without the solid axles it has got to be worse off-road, though the angles and clearance are very impressive.
This will prove to be the better way to go for Jeep. Hopefully they stay true to off-road with their Wrangler, and perhaps subtract one offering and add another off-road intend Cherokee type vehicle.

I've had a few jeeps over the years and still drive my favorite - the rare 5.9 Limited. WJ 's are nice but i prefer the square job on the ZJ's. The WK's are ok but can't get me outta my 5.9 for more reasons than 1. NOW there this handsome "jetson" looking space rover jeep... hmmmm... I like what I've seen. But will have to see a few on the street to be sold. It'd better be quicker than the ZJ, WJ and WK excl' the SRT8, which doen't go off road anyway. Leaving the beastly 5.9L. Hmmmm.
I like the little bit of WJ styling that's still in it, but it's tough to accept a fully independent Grand Cherokee. We'll just have to see it in four-wheeling action to see if it really deserves the Trail Rated badge. Jeep seems to be sticking it on everything, I'm surprised the Compass didn't get one just for the hell of it.

Great look but does anyone still buy SUV's anymore?! In order for Chrysler to compete again it has to offer Jeeps that are at minimum in the 20 mpg range or up. Also, the interior looks cramped for this class. Jeep should have continued innovating with their 2005 redesign (which was a complete disappointment). I hate to be the one to say it but I think Jeep was asleep at the wheel too long. Now, instead of innovating they're playing catch-up at a time when people are downsizing.

As for Hummer. The H3 and up are junk, they're just city oriented family SUVs. H2 and especially H1 are the real deal. H1 will run over your little Range Rover any day.
the h1 is a serious off roader, but do you know anything? the h2 physically breaks if it's off roading on anything other than a pre-arranged gm test track. the h3 is better off-road, but it's still nowhere near as good as a land rover, or rather as a hummer should be. plus, they all use live rear axle suspensions. why? that's ludircous. that means they handle like shit, and they can't off road well (how could you off road when the wheels can't move independently of each other?)
and plus, if you're worried "about scratching the paint" don't buy a fucking range rover. the range rover is a special car. it's like a rolls royce in it's interior, it handles like a normal car, and it can leave any other car behind in the desert. name another car that can do all of those things.

yes, i know, only straight line speed. but the point is that i'd rather have a v6 porsche cayenne for the same price. the porsche can actually do off-roading, still gets to 60 in about 7 seconds (not bad for a 2.5 ton suv) and despite its size, handles like a true porsche.
there is no jeep that can do all that, just some models that fulfill part of the porsche's capabilities.

but the new V6 lineup sounds great, and if this grand cherokee, combined with the new ram and 200C concept car are any indications, i think they've cleared up their interior problem as well.

For me Chrysler fills a space between Ford & GM that is necessary, they're not as in your face American as Ford & not as big & overextended as GM.
wow it actually looks good. i rented a jeep grand cherokee to off road in the nevada desert a few summers ago, and there were several key factors that made it a bad car.
1. shitty materials used throughout the cabin. it felt like i was in a kia.
2. the extremely high seating position. i'm 6'5'' and the car was really uncomfortable
3. power. the 3.7 L engine was terrible.
4. fuel economy. i averaged just 18 mpg, and in a toyota 4runner last year doing almost the same stuff, i averaged 21.
Definitely the kind of quality that Chrysler needs to put in its cars in order to survive this economic danger world.But they still haven't showed us that in their sedans and smaller cars,when these days,thats where it really matters the most.
Finally, an attractive Jeep! Hard to believe that the interior is from Jeep :o . I love the direction Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep is going now. Especially since Fiat is going to be apart of them!

Jackjohns01 - they have a diesel option already. There is currently a 3.0L V6 diesel available for the Grand Cherokee and they already announced that the 2011 will also have a diesel option. The liberty has also had a diesel option for years. However, no one wants a diesel so they don't sell well.
They still don't get it. These large SUVs need a Diesel option. They can easily integrate a V6 Diesel into these cars. The cars are great looking cars, but their engines are still inefficient. V6 in that car is too weak and a V8 is not gas efficient. Chrysler should seriously consider a diesel option for its SUVs.
That looks sharp. Im excited to see how it will perform against it competitors, and if it will still have a the capability that the Jeep name is known for.

There's economic justification for people owning them in regions with heavy snowfall, fNx.
I, personally, would never feel safe driving in snow without my Jeep.
Also, if someone wants to own a Jeep, that's their prerogative.
And the global economy was caused by politicians who pushed legislation to require banks to loan to people who had high risk of not being able to repay their debt. This allowed people to buy houses they couldn't actually afford. Thus the housing bubble, just a quick FYI...

id say. outside it needs bigger wheels and to be a little lower, i prefer the current version on looks. but the general body looks good. interior looks amazing as usual. features 10/10. the engines. your usual 5.7 v8 which i love and that 3.6! its got more power than the 4.7 v8 of the 99-04 model. anyway i still cant wait for it.

Well, Ford makes some quality off roaders, mainly trucks tho but GM? Don't make me laugh. The Escalade is rubbish, the Hummer is a pathetic toy and they're unreliable.

The Range Rover costs an arm and a fucking leg man...and just because of that, it's a shitty off roader. You don't go off roading with a car that you're afraid to scratch it.
If Jeep and Hummer where shitty off roaders the US military wouldn't have used them for the past century.
As for Hummer. The H3 and up are junk, they're just city oriented family SUVs. H2 and especially H1 are the real deal. H1 will run over your little Range Rover any day.

the h1 is a serious off roader, but do you know anything? the h2 physically breaks if it's off roading on anything other than a pre-arranged gm test track. the h3 is better off-road, but it's still nowhere near as good as a land rover, or rather as a hummer should be. plus, they all use live rear axle suspensions. why? that's ludircous. that means they handle like shit, and they can't off road well (how could you off road when the wheels can't move independently of each other?)

yes, i know, only straight line speed. but the point is that i'd rather have a v6 porsche cayenne for the same price. the porsche can actually do off-roading, still gets to 60 in about 7 seconds (not bad for a 2.5 ton suv) and despite its size, handles like a true porsche.
there is no jeep that can do all that, just some models that fulfill part of the porsche's capabilities.
the cayenne is the best overall package.

their major problems were always their dated V6s and afterthought interiors.
but the new V6 lineup sounds great, and if this grand cherokee, combined with the new ram and 200C concept car are any indications, i think they've cleared up their interior problem as well.
i really hope chrysler is here to stay.
For me Chrysler fills a space between Ford & GM that is necessary, they're not as in your face American as Ford & not as big & overextended as GM.

wow it actually looks good. i rented a jeep grand cherokee to off road in the nevada desert a few summers ago, and there were several key factors that made it a bad car.
1. shitty materials used throughout the cabin. it felt like i was in a kia.
2. the extremely high seating position. i'm 6'5'' and the car was really uncomfortable
3. power. the 3.7 L engine was terrible.
4. fuel economy. i averaged just 18 mpg, and in a toyota 4runner last year doing almost the same stuff, i averaged 21.

looks good and seems capable. i like the interior upgrades but i wish this looked alot more like the tomahawk concept. i miss the big sort of tonka truck toy look, but this is a nice evolution for the brand and i hope this will help give them more appeal to a broader audience without completely putting off current fans

Jackjohns01 - they have a diesel option already. There is currently a 3.0L V6 diesel available for the Grand Cherokee and they already announced that the 2011 will also have a diesel option. The liberty has also had a diesel option for years. However, no one wants a diesel so they don't sell well.

They still don't get it. These large SUVs need a Diesel option. They can easily integrate a V6 Diesel into these cars. The cars are great looking cars, but their engines are still inefficient. V6 in that car is too weak and a V8 is not gas efficient. Chrysler should seriously consider a diesel option for its SUVs.
