my friend made me laugh hard the other day...we were talking about make up effects of 80s movies and how thy are more creepy looking and he randomly said "Someone , somewhere has got a room full of arnolds heads!" LMAO
@XRaCeProX With all the respect, man, but why did you write "Look at the fake Arnold Schwarzenegger" in the video description? Not trying to offend you or piss you off, but this a 1990 movie, brother. Don't criticize it. Terminator is such an awesome saga, and the first 2 are the best. If you wanna make fun of the Terminator, upload a video showing how the 3rd one sucks comparing to the other 2. Because the saga ends with the 2nd one anyway (in my opinion). Peace, bro.
I for the most part prefer practical effects, but anyone who says this is great or better than CG is lying to themselves. The eye itself looks good, but the rest of Arnie's head is blatantly fake. It doesn't even look like Arnold. Even as a kid I noticed it looked weird.
Dude 30Years ago this was pretty cool..even today if you look at this movie in BluRay you would be blast away....They didn t have Tech, real tech showed in T2.....
@Addyson1991 You cannot compare modern CGI to puppet effects from the 80s. Today those effects look way better and it is no wonder, that those movies, who still use puppets in addition to CGI look the most realistic. You always have to remember when those movies were made. Lawnmower Man for its time was good, today it's laughable in computer effects. The problem with CGI is, mostly it looks cheap, even when it costs millions of dollars, because of glossing or structure.
ya this makes him seem more like a authentic thing out to get you , i thought the terminator would of put a bandage around its head but that would probably screw his targeting uphe just cut to much out he should have plucked the eye and kept it closed in human interactions then when combat insued open it
CGI is better no doubt but hey this fil did a very good job with the makeup especially for a film made in the 1980's.Mu only complaint is that his skin is very waxy looking.
I still think Avatar looked fake. But I usually care about it being a good movie more than special effects. Probably why I didn't like Avatar because without the special effects the movie would have flopped
Not hating just stating but you guys say this is more real than CGI? I dont think so, the entire character was a puppet as he pulled out his eye to reveal his cyborg underlayer. If this was CGI they would have used the REAL Arnie and just made his eye CG.
Hey Everybody! I have just released my new album 'Unhinged' which is greatly inspired by Brad Fiedel's soundtrack work in the Terminator series. You can stream or download the full album for free on my youtube channel!
This movie is almost 30 years old!! Of course it was insane back then in the 80s. Do you know how much work it takes to make a puppet or mask look like a man's head and face? CGI makes most of the work much easier, but it doesn't even look half as good as classic FX. Just imagine the lower arm-repair created with CGI... lol
terminator:kk prom is in 5 mins i gotta look good for t-x! is my eye good? yeah sexy sexy eye oh yeah im badass! oh my hair looks like shit...fuck it im gone!"
Its an unfortuate fact that physical effects are for the most part a lost art, as CGI effects became more cost effective.

A MI ME PARECE GENIAL, Y SUPER CURRADO, POR ORDENADOR TODO ES MUY FÁCIL PERO SUELE CANTAR QUE ES POR ORDENADOR Y LO MÁS IMPORTANTE ES QUE LA PRIMERA VEZ QUE VES LA PELI NADIE SE DA CUENTA DE QUE ES UN ANIMATRONIC, ASÍ QUE ESTÁ BASTANTE LOGRADO. KÑO!!, QUE ESTÉS VIENDO UN MUÑECO Y TE PIENSES QUE ES ARNOLD LA PRIMERA VEZ TIENE HUEVOS!!!, LO QUE AYUDA A ESO ES LOS CORTES DE CAMARA MOSTRANDO A ARNOLD DE LADO Y LUEGO DE FRENTE EL ANIMATRONIC, CREO QUE ESO ES LO QUE TE ENGAÑA MÁS LA PRIMERA VEZ.
i like this better than cgi, always better to do something in the real world when possible. It looks like a fake robot, looks great. cgi is over used.
@kcran5671 I agree. The thing with CGI is that the lighting is never as good as film. Another example is when for example the T-800 chassis is constructed and it gets a laser scan, it's all filmed and it looks absolutely amazing.
@kcran5671 you have no idea how much CGI you are looking at that you had no idea was CGI. i agree with you that bad CGI could be replaced with models etc though..
@kcran5671 actually making it this way without CGI makes it more realistic being that hes a robot and what they used is a robot so the whole movement is pretty much as real as it gets. still my fave part of the entire movie.
@Justinian43 CGI movies are real... Real fake lol. No, seriously, I totally agree with you. I enjoy watching non-CGI effects, no matter how fake they look. It reminds me of amateur movies I used to make with my camera phone when I was 12.
@SciFiWebcam i like non-cgi because of the work that took on making the props, puppets, suits and what not. CGI sadly is all computers, nothing more, nothing less, and since it's computer generated, it's not real. The shading, lightining, etc. won't be exact, the actor won't have a set or character to work with in order to enhance the action. Blue Screens=nope! (my point of view)
@Justinian43 True words, my friends. You truly won't feel like you accomplished something if you work on 70 percent of the movie on a computer. I'm not talking about all those YouTubers who probably don't have access to a webcam or anything like that: They can't do anything about it anyway. I'm talking about those who do. I used to, but it was mostly for intros and stuff like that: nothing big. It'd be nice to see an old-school movie with these kind of effects again.
@SciFiWebcam i really want to make an old school movie with sets and all that cool stuff, the 1982 film called "The thing" inspires me a lot, that is like old school cinematography at its finest!
@SciFiWebcam yes that one, it's just so well done and creepy, i will never get that image of the dying dog getting killed by the thing. The new thing is like star wars prequels, with computer they threw more mutations that they overdid it (like how lucas used cgi to throw as many lightsabers as possible in the prequels, unlike the classic ones where the lightsaber was only used when the jedi or vader meant business)
You can tell that this was shot with a puppet head, but special effects before widespread use of computers was at its height back then. It is really very hard to make the puppet more convincing than that, probably also due to budget restraints, and it is a very good piece of work.
My feeling is this could've worked more effectively if the scene were cut better. For instance, filming the animatronic Arnold face on was a bad idea. If they cut to a side shot of Arnie just before the puppet looks up the whole scene would've maintained the illusion and same for the part where he's putting on his shades. It could've been made a lot shorter. I nevertheless have no complaint about the technology, this is as real as it gets to me.

Terminator's thoughts: "Even though I'm only here to kill people, I still gotta look good in case they sent some female terminators here too."
...."and not crappy blonde pony-tailed ones, hot brunettes ones, and red heads.....with feathered hair...fuck yeah it's the 80's I LOVE feathered hair....and killing! Ok, now lets do this!"
personally, I would prefer "OK" special effects without CGI than "Great" effects with CGI. There's just this certain essence of good ole fashion movie-making shit that you just don't see anymore. Almost everything now is CGI. I miss special effects like these...RIP
@sebyst Oh... maybe you're right. I've heard that it was Amiga. But it can be my mistake... It doesn't matter - they're really, really impressive : ).
yea true it doesnt match up with the real life looking human but acually it looks more real like that all robot style. I remember when I first saw this scene as a kid, it scared me though, just the way it looks, like a scary looking freaky fake plastic unusual looking face lol
It really doesn't look real. However, it absolutely certainly -DOES- look scary and something out of a really bad dream. Coupled with the dark synth percussions, it's a freaky scene for sure.
@TheDM75 Pretty much any movie that isn't high budget, although their CGI looks like PS1 cutscenes, but even in holywood movies CGI is noticable especially when it's used to show a person, they tend to have plastic looking skin, like the CGI Rock in The Mummy 2, that's hollywood CGI and it looks awful. But even good CGI looks fake and it's really easy to spot, they used a lot of physical props in T2 that you wouldn't immediately see as fake when watching the movie.
@TheDM75 Yes it does look good in Transformers even though that movie sucks, but I've yet to see CGI of a real person that does not look out of place.
@TheDM75 That's a good one, if CGI was done right it can be an excellent asset to a movie, unfortunately at least %90 of CGI doesn't look anywhere as good and is usually overused throughout most sci-fi movies, I enjoyed practical effects because they looked real especially the blood and gore effects, I can't stand CGI blood.
when i was like 4 i remember sneaking downstairs and watching this through a crack in the door while my dad was watching it. at this point i shit myself as at that age i thought it was real. covered my mouth with gasps of terror dad hearing me and telling me to get the hell to bed.
@thefunnystuffplease I was 5 when I first saw and I loved it! (can't remember if I were scared or not) My mom thought I can't grow up without seeing these classic movies :).
@EatMahShite thats why i watch them now with my daughter who is almost 4. she loves predator and terminator 2 and back to the future (and is also a hard core futurama fan) its great to watch things with your kid and bond over it. the scary things, the funny things the cool things. shes not a panzy and doesnt have bad dreams and certainly isnt emotionally scarred. shes happy. its so cool watching this stuff with your kids knowing they enjoy it as much as you! :D
@Japopeye depends what scares you when you are 4. i was freaked out because he chopped his eye out. i was 4 and didnt know he was a machine underneath XD felt like the telly was shouting SURPRISE!
yea to me CGI looks fake no matter where its used. all those intricately designed transformers in the theatres today honestly dont look "real" to me. nah it just looks like someone accidently pushed the record button while playing xbox. THIS! Now THIS looks damn good!
The trouble with CGI is it can not be allowed to be constrained by time the same as practical effects. It takes longer to get things to look "right" to the human eye. When the tower collapses in Return Of The King...that was one guy who took the equipment he'd need home, working 18 and 19 hour days or longer, every day over his Christmas break. And it shows imo...it looks great. Other things like the Warg battle in TTT..not so much lol! You can tell not as long was taken to do it.
Okay this vs CGI Arnold in T4?

@Ienstien965 You are retarded? This is a movie called Terminatior.. ofcourse it's fake.
Jackeeify 3 months ago 17
yea true it doesnt match up with the real life looking human but acually it looks more real like that all robot style. I remember when I first saw this scene as a kid, it scared me though, just the way it looks, like a scary looking freaky fake plastic unusual looking face lol
ChicanoTattooArt 3 months ago
acually when you look at it like this, since he is really a robot, it acually looks like a damn robot! nice.

0:28 some fake mask
0:30 hell yeah Arnold
LarisaFrolova 3 months ago
It would have been brillant if the terminator looked like this for the entire movie. Much more robotic.
AlexFruen 3 months ago
It really doesn't look real. However, it absolutely certainly -DOES- look scary and something out of a really bad dream. Coupled with the dark synth percussions, it's a freaky scene for sure.

he looks like plastic

Looks better than shitty CGI in today's movies.
DeadEndScreamer 3 months ago 3
@DeadEndScreamer Don't be stupid, yes this looks scary and it's freaking genius, but it doesn't look better than 2011 CGI -.-'
TheDM75 3 months ago
@TheDM75 I have seen a lot of CGI in movies that looks a million times worse than this effect, CGI just looks out of place.
DeadEndScreamer 3 months ago
@DeadEndScreamer lol are you talking about student films? Most hollywood movies don't use trash cgi.
TheDM75 3 months ago
@TheDM75 Pretty much any movie that isn't high budget, although their CGI looks like PS1 cutscenes, but even in holywood movies CGI is noticable especially when it's used to show a person, they tend to have plastic looking skin, like the CGI Rock in The Mummy 2, that's hollywood CGI and it looks awful. But even good CGI looks fake and it's really easy to spot, they used a lot of physical props in T2 that you wouldn't immediately see as fake when watching the movie.
DeadEndScreamer 3 months ago
@DeadEndScreamer Of course you can tell if its CGI alot of times but looks at Transformers for example, it looks amazing. The Mummy 2 is too old.
TheDM75 3 months ago
@TheDM75 Yes it does look good in Transformers even though that movie sucks, but I've yet to see CGI of a real person that does not look out of place.
DeadEndScreamer 3 months ago
@DeadEndScreamer The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, absolutely brilliant work from the CGI Artists. Well it's just the head but it's amazing.
TheDM75 3 months ago
@TheDM75 That's a good one, if CGI was done right it can be an excellent asset to a movie, unfortunately at least %90 of CGI doesn't look anywhere as good and is usually overused throughout most sci-fi movies, I enjoyed practical effects because they looked real especially the blood and gore effects, I can't stand CGI blood.
DeadEndScreamer 2 months ago
@DeadEndScreamer I agree with that one, CG blood is just useless and stupid.

the only part that should have included the dummy was the close up of the eye, that was a badly done scene.

ok for the eternel ED-209 of Craig and Tippet in Robocop, cge would never made so good, but this is really getting old...
MegaBorisTheBLade 4 months ago
yea to me CGI looks fake no matter where its used. all those intricately designed transformers in the theatres today honestly dont look "real" to me. nah it just looks like someone accidently pushed the record button while playing xbox. THIS! Now THIS looks damn good!
theguy782 4 months ago
@theguy782 other way around. it's just a mask. only because they had a low budget.
Ub3rSk1llz 4 months ago
The trouble with CGI is it can not be allowed to be constrained by time the same as practical effects. It takes longer to get things to look "right" to the human eye. When the tower collapses in Return Of The King...that was one guy who took the equipment he'd need home, working 18 and 19 hour days or longer, every day over his Christmas break. And it shows imo...it looks great. Other things like the Warg battle in TTT..not so much lol! You can tell not as long was taken to do it.
