  • wheres dave brown?):

  • Paul Krause is the best safety of all-time. 81 career interceptions, and he played in an era where everything was "Run the ball, run the ball, run the ball!"

Ed Reed is playing in an era where three quarterbacks can throw for over 5,000 yards in a season. I think that Paul Krause is the best all time, and Ed Reed is the best cover safety in the league, at the moment.

  • polomalu is the best safety people

  • Did Deon ever put a big hit on ANYBODY?? Watch him as a Cowboy in Superbowl XXX against the Steelers. Any time a running play went on his side he just happily got out of the way.

  • stupid list. fucking dumb song for this

  • where my boy reed

  • Ed Reed? If you really want to include someone from today's game, then make is Polamalu, because he's just better. The only guys I really saw play were Green, Woodson, Sanders, and Lott. I'd say that they came in the right order. I don't know much about the older guys, other than that Blount is considered the best CB ever and Lane is a legend.

  • @Hegone81 umm no look at reeds stats den look at troys troy is 2nd all time

  • Where is Everson Walls??????? Led the league 3 times in interceptions. Please.

  • its a fucked list ed reed is the best playmaking defensive back ive ever seen and how is deion above rod woodson woodson made the pro bowl as a corner then as a safety and would hit you and you would feel it i think night train is 1 and no champ bailey i know its hard to do a list no one will ever agree so i appalaud you for trying but i thin k theres a few clear mistakes

  • #`13 shouldnt be honorable mention #4 and #2 switch

  • @LILperez97 no night train was a head hunter better than mel blount switch blount with prime time

  • @ravenma21 Night Train right where he belongs. He's a legend. Mel Blount was the best defensive player on the best defense of all time. Considered by most the greatest CB of all time. Better than Deion.

  • @ravenma21 night train lane was not a head hunter he was a defensive player thts how u play the game of football 2 hurt the oppositing player...

  • I Like It

  • ed reed should be #1, this list is a joke...rod woodson and bill belichick both have said ed reed is the best safety ever

  • deion sanders should be higher

  • Mel Blount changed the rules of football so I'd have him higher than Deion who was afraid to tackle

  • good list brah, I would honorably mention Polamalu and Ed Reed, possibly John Lynch

  • brian dawkins was the best ever

  • um where is ed reed?? and also how do u not put deion at 1?

  • I thought R.Lott was safety?Champ Bailey Rocks too.

  • where is lester hayes?

  • no lester hayes, lol do ur homework

  • Sanders didnt have shit on Green. Green owned him in stats and skill every year he played

  • no sharper no ed reed?

  • im a niners fan and loved lott, but prime time is the champ

  • Deion Sanders should be number 1

  • @jdbozza Deoin could've been the best CB of all time but he couldn't a wouldn't make hits. He thought he was too pretty lol but he was my favorite CB

  • dude wheres darren sharper....not even an honorable mention

  • scuse me sir. where is ED REED????

  • Personally I would have made two seperate list, one for safeties and one for cornerbacks. Overall its a good list though. The only one I didnt see on there that I would argue would be Polamalu.

  • Where is charles woodson other wise good job

  • @eminiemnlilywayne132 Charles Woodson, Are you crazy?

  • 1= Night Train Lane, no question

  • "Mel Blount Rule"

  • National Football League 75th Anniversary All-Time Team has Mel Blount listed as a cornerback (1970-1983).And because of Mel being a physical cornerback Mel Rule was created.Google this.

  • @aroyo He still qualifies as a cornerback because he was that talented when he played that position plus he could hit you harder than most corners and cover you as well as most corners. So I disagree with you completely and dont try to know it all..No I saw Blount play corner and thats why I say he could have played either or .No You quit try being a know it all,

  • Sanders ahead of Woodson??? Are they nuts??? Woodson did it all, while Sanders was just a good cover man. Can anyone honestly remember one tackle Sanders ever made? Woodson, covered, could run like a deer, hit like a truck and sack quarterbacks, something Sanders could never, and didn't, do. Woodson also made every All-Time team there is. No way is Sanders above Woodson. Period,

  • Just a question I don't wana hate, what about Troy?

  • Geeez every single one of you have it wrong. Ronnie Lott and Dick Lane were better cuz they weren't afraid to make that monster hit like dick lane would of. plus ronnie lott had more balls than deion would ever have. I never heard of sanders cutting his broken finger to play in the superbowl

  • @CoD3x4life ya butmel blunt had a rule made for him thats a real player when u have people make a rule against u u know ur good and even after that he was great

  • all u haters tht are makin bad comments should keep ur mouth shut cuz it is VERY difficult to make a top 10 Safeties list... believe me i have one and i left many greats out... it is hard

  • my list 10 = Brian Dawkins 9 = Steve Atwater 8= Jordan Babineaux 7=Gary Fencik 6= Mel Blount 5=Ed Reed 4=Darren Sharper 3=Paul Krause 2= Ronnie Lott 1= Deion Sanders
  • Deion's the best!!!!! You got it all wrong!!!!!

  • Gary Fencik ... how can you not have anyone from the 85's Bears?

  • Where the fuck is Ed Reed?

  • @thegoldenone1 Thats a good question

  • what a joke,where's Lester hayes?

  • blount is #1 by alot. apparently you didn't see him play. ronnie lott was a great & i'm a big fan & personally may be the toughest sob that ever played, but he's not the best db that ever played, & he wasn't close to blount OR hayes for that matter who by the way are #'s 1 & 2.

  • where da F*** is darren sharper??

  • Where is Louis Wright?!.... Krause?? come on!

Lester Hayes was one of the best bump and run... and where the hell is the best hitting safety EVER, Atwater?

  • No fuckin ed reed

  • Mike Haynes!!! Love it. A little suprised Ed Reed didn't get any love, though.

  • jack tatum created hard hittind safties and was way better than ed reed

  • Holy dog shit! Who's picking this music? Somebody's an asshole.

  • Jack Tatum over Ed Reed..........really

  • @CarolinaPanther343 Yes Jack Tatum over Ed Reed. Tatum was a truck, no one ever got past him and on top of that he hit a guy so hard he paralyzed them sooo yeah.

  • where is lem barney???

  • champ bailey?

  • TROY POLOMOLU?????????!-:( wtf! U idiot

  • tatum should of been in the top three

  • @cookie14883 Tatum in the top three? Maybe on the "dirtiest player" list! LOL

  • @ndfan118, thats because brian dawkins is way harder then polamal-bitch ever dreamed of being. he was more sacks, picks, and i garuntee if you had both of them ran at eachother as fast as they could and meet at the %0 yard line, polomalu would be the one not gettin up.

  • dude wtf ed reed and polamalu sould be number 1 and 2 and brian dawkins sould be on that list also rod woodson needs to be higher were the hell did u learn football at dude

  • @1997jman troy polamalu and ed reed are not good enough YET to be on the list but they will be on it by the time they retire

  • I think Ed Reed and Polamalu should be in this list. But it was a good list other than that

  • WHERE THE FUCK IS ED REED U FUCKING FAGGET

  • 1) Night Train 2) Deion

  • Deion should have been a little higher and maybe rod woodson he retired #3 interception leader in career and i believe #1 in pick 6

  • Brian Dawkins as an honerable mention? Do you watch football?

  • no mel renfro

  • no mel renfro 10 straight pro bowls .....proven top ten er.

  • HOW IS DEION Not #1 he scared quarterbackes and recievers he could intercept any pass and turn it into a touchdown, and Mel Blount are you kidding he was dirty and he played with the best linebackers and D-Line of all time I could get interceptions with that Defense. Last ha to Ronnie Lott being #1

  • @CarolinaPanther343, Ronnie Lott is unquestionably the greatest safety of all time. Period, no debate. Mel Blount wasn't dirty for his day, much of the PI rules didn't come about into about half way through his career. But I'd agree his value is a little skewed.

Deion is not, nor should he be, number one because yeah, he could intercept, he could shut receivers down, but he was still extremely limited. Any CB who literally cannot tackle, at all, does not deserve #1, no matter what.

  • @jdlund First of all a cornerbacks job isn't to tackle it is to cover recievers an dieon took over his half in games

also if you look at the film the reason he didn't get more int's is because qbs were scared to take a risk and throw it his way. Lott was great and deserves to be on the list but not over Primetime

  • Revis FTW

  • Paul Krause isn't even the best safety in Viking history....Joey Browner is and Kenny Easley was better than Joey Browner. Good lookin out with Mike Haynes, though. Most folks slip on him.

  • U GIVE BRIAN DAWKINS AN HINERABLE MENTION BUT NOT POLAMALU U STUPID FUCK LEARN FOOTBALL

  • @ndfan118 chill steelers fan, dont get your panties in a bunch

  • @hipo250 hes telling the truth fuck troys a better safty then fucking dawkins any way

  • @ndfan118 Polamalu is the steeler saftey -.-

  • @ndfan118 I gusse Polamalu isnt good just on espn he was # 7 steeler of all time competting against Hall of famers but hes not as good as dawkins and I have not even hear dawkins name for 2 years since this post

  • @ndfan118 seriously chill fag

  • @ndfan118 wow dude, im scared now, u went caps

  • Where's Lem Barney & Lester Hayes?

  • this list is pretty good except Herb Adderley was an honorable mention i would have been ok with him at 10

  • I like broncos list better

  • Dick lebeau should b top5

  • Deion = #1

Sean Taylor should of made the list

  • can someone tell me where ed reed is in this list? i have owned madden for many yrs, and i cant remember a madden where he isnt atleast a 95. he isnt a head hunter, but the best centerfielder football has ever seen

  • I personally have Ed Reed as the greatest safety to ever play, he didn't crack your top 15?

  • yea hello wheres ed reed?

  • The people saying Tatum had no skill. Is 37 career interceptions no skill. Seems like somebody's getting underrated either because he was a Raider or because of the hit on Darryl Stingley, He should be in the Hall.

  • well you got one thing right, RONNIE LOTT is number 1

  • 1. Ronnie Lott

    2. Night Train

    3. Deion Sanders

    4. Mel Blount

    5. Mike Haynes

    6. Darryl Green

    7. Lester Hayes

    8. Dick Lebeau

    9. Steve Atwater

    10. Ed Reed

  • pretty good list.i thought lester hayes and ed reed should be in there.

  • i can appreciate the selections for best of all time. It is subject to discussion. My problem is with the music:( doesn't really remind me of the gridiron. I couldn't even finish the vid

  • You put Mike Haynes on there, but not Lester Hayes? C'mon man! He also deserves to be in the Hall of Fame too.

  • where is Ed Reed? anywhere on it even #15 idk he should be somewhere on it

  • 10.willie brown

    9. Jack Tatum

    8.ken houston

    7. darrell green

    6. rod woodson

    5. Ed Reed

    4.Mel Blount

    3.Deion Sanders

    2. Ronnie Lott

    1. dick "night train" lane

  • Tommy Maddox isnt on this list???

  • everyone will disagree but i think troy polamalu should be in there

  • @untouchab7e this isnt the cheap shot artist list dude lol

  • wheres ED REED?

  • Really? Champ Bailey isn't on here? He's 31 years old and is still a shutdown corner. And Dawkins at 36 hits as hard as any other guy in the league. You better hope you're on the other side of the field from Dawkins if you have the ball. And I know he's really young and somewhat unproven but Darrelle Revis will be on this list.

  • Safeties and cornerbacks are two different kinds of positions I love Ronnie Lott but I dont think he would have been as great as a safety.Louis Wright was a great CB or honorable !He could have been mentioned somewhere in video. You did a great job in a tough field. Thanks for outstanding video

  • @TAXENGINEER He played safety for most of his carrer stupes! He had 6 pro bowls and 6 first team all-pros at while playing both free and strong safety. So I think he was alright as a safety. He only played CB for his first 4 season which he also got 4 pro bowls and 2 first team all-pros. This is why he's number 1 on this list and most other top 10 lists as well, because he dominated at every defensive backfield postion. Learn about football before you open your mouth.

  • @liamarroyo see next two comments thank you.Have a nice day.

  • Comment removed

  • @TAXENGINEER I meant to say lott wasnt as great as coverage man as Louis Wright the cornerback. But I enjoyed watching them both.NFL will kickoff from 35 yard this year and maybe a 2 more games in regular season.I like this song above.

  • jack tatum = GREAT!

  • rodney harrison?

  • I make countdowns like these myself. Subscribe to me.

  • Brian dawkins and champ bailey should be top 5

  • Jakc tatum isnt that good, he was a hitter, not a good db, Rod woodson should be 2, Deon Sanders 1st

  • Thanks for including some of the old school guys, such as Night Train, Mike Haynes and Ken Houston. They were great ones and probably forgotten by too many.

  • What no champ Bailey

  • so no lester not even in the honorable mentions

  • R.I.P Sean Tayolor#21 Redskin For Ever

  • Not sure who I'd put at CB, though I probably wouldn't argue with Deion. That does pain me in a way to say that since he was such a primadonna.

At safety, I'd put Kenny Easley at #1, even though injury and kidney failure did shorten his career.

  • charles woodson

  • list is ok but song is gay

  • how bout darren sharper or charles woodson they gotta be put on some list pretty soon...

  • Dawk the best safety ever..

  • very good list i thought u forgot about nighttrain there for a second.

  • no troy??? no ed????

  • lester the molester!

  • albert lewis? deron cherry? john lynch???

  • i think jack tatum should be higher than #10.He certainly knew how to hit people!

  • Number one db Ronnie Lott, 2 Deion Sanders, and 3 Roger Wehrli. By the way who does this song?

  • mel blount is the best ever PERIOD... he gets over shadowed because of his team but they changed the rules because of blount...chris collinsworth still has nightmare about him.. and steve atwater, honerable mention...pfffff 8 time pro bowler!!!! same a deion... only had half the INTS deion had but 3 times as many tackles! deion gets a pass by too many cuz he was a return man buts irrelevant to who the best DB;s are

  • Jack Tatum i think should be number 1

He scared the shit out of you if you had to catch the ball anywhere around him.

    The Assassin is number 1

  • Jack Tatum was known only for his headhunting, not for his skill at the position, hence why he is not in the hall.

Deion should be tied with Ronnie Lott. Though he didn't hit, Michael Irvin said it best, "Deion isn't paid to hit, he is paid to shut down half of the field.'

  • Lott was one of the greatest to play but still...your forgetting Ed reed and even though he's hurt a lot bob sanders should get at least honorable mention

  • ed reed man?

  • y is deion sanders 4 dawkins or atwater can easily b in that spot over him

  • honestly Sean Taylor shud b somewhere

  • Paul Krause and no-contact Deion Sanders shouldnt be higher than Rod Woodson though.

  • rod woodson number 6? hahahaha i hope this kid wasnt being serious when he made that decision and deion is a homo

  • good list deon sanders should be higher

  • Why in the hell was Deion Sanders shown in a yucky Dallas Cowboys uniform...it should've been the Atlanta Falcons uniform where he played in his prime years, he only played a couple of years for the funky ass Dallas Cowboys. I can't stand the Cowboys. Another reason Rod Woodson should've been over Deion for that photo in a suck ass Dallas Cowboys uniform. Steelers fans hate Dallas Cowboys if you haven't known. LOL

  • i know right or a niners jersey but y Dallas thats gross haha

  • Rod Woodson had the speed like Deion plus he could hit hard like Ronnie Lott. It's hard to do both and he was exceptional on both ends. Deion Sanders he wasn't known as a hitter just a cherry picker. LOL Running backs would bulldozer Deion's ass! Barry Sanders my favorite running back being one of them. LOL Deion had speed but no strength. Rod Woodson had both. Go Steelers.

  • Comment removed

  • I'll throw in a real wild card here. Not for number one, but just to make the list - Nolan Cromwell.

PS P. Krause was great, but yes Ronnie Lott is the best.

  • alright think mel blount should be #1 bc he created the pass interfierence rule..he was such a freak at his position that they had to make a rule to stop him

  • Deion over Rod Woodson? Proof you are an idiot.

  • deion was just raw speed and astounding athlete. but i agree that woodson should be at least one up on deion

  • How about Donnie Shell, 5-time Pro Bowler & 3-time First-Team All-Pro

  • Shout out to Lester Hayes.

  • 7. Dick LeBeau 62 1959-1972

    Dave Brown 62 1975-1989

    9. Emmitt Thomas 58 1966-1978

    10. Everson Walls 57 1981-1993

    Johnny Robinson 57 1960-1971

    Eugene Robinson 57 1985-2000

    Bobby Boyd 57 1960-1968

    Mel Blount 57 1970-1983

These are the guys we should be talking about.

  • Bobby Boyd looks underappreciated to me. 57 interceptions in only 8 or 9 seasons. Wow. Pretty impressive. It took Mel Blount 13 years to get that many.

  • Here are the top career leaders in interceptions:

    1. Paul Krause 81 1964-1979

    2. Emlen Tunnell 79 1948-1961

    3. Rod Woodson 71 1987-2003

    4. Night Train Lane 68 1952-1965

    5. Ken Riley 65 1969-1983

    6. Ronnie Lott 63 1981-1994

  • Okay, never mind on Jake Scott. He only had 49 career interceptions, tied with Ken Houston. Although Houston played five more years than Scott, they each only had 49 career interceptions. Not enough for either of them to make this list.

  • I cant believe no one has mentioned Super Bowl MVP Jake Scott.

  • dude Brian Dawkins is in the top 10 easily

  • hell no man... both steve atwater and brian dawkins is better than number 10

  • r kelley?????/cmon Dude. this i football, not no circle jerk.

  • i put rod over d sanders...rod could tackle!! and acceled at safety which deon could not

  • were da hell lem barney at

  • Rod Woodson 6th???? I dont know about that! hes easily top 3. I think the top 3 are 1. Mel Blount

    2. Deon...even though I hate a loudmouth!

    3. Woodson

Blount is #1 because he changed the way the position was played, He was so good they had to change the rules to make him less of a factor...thats saying alot!

  • hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll now nigga get that shit somewhere

  • No mention of the great Larry Wilson,St Louis Cards?

  • Great players and a great list, but Lem Barney needs to be in the top 10

  • Its funny that dick labue retired with some of the best interception numbers ever and yet he is never on anyones top 10

  • wat about charles woodson

  • ahhh SEAN TAYLOR

  • alright list heres mine 1.ronnie lott 2.dick night train lane 3.lester hayes 4.mel blount 5.mike hayes 6.deion sanders 7.paul krause 8.ed reed 9.champ bailey 10.brian dawkinns- palumalo
  • No rod woodson on your list

  • Deion should be number 2 not 4

  • polamalu and dawkins shuld be on there by da time they retire

  • smart choice for number 1 but thers one thing where the hell is lester hayes

  • ed reeds gonna be on there pretty dang soon
