last time I checked the UC & Cal State systems was were funded by California state taxes. unless Budweiser or Coors or one of the big beer companies sent UC Davis a grant to cover the cost of this research project, otherwise it is being funded by California tax payers.
@MrPaulmChristie Actually many of the greatest scientific discoveries and lab techniques were developed in or for breweries so don't knock the science behind beer. It really is serious stuff.
Look up Student's T test. Every single science major learns this in his/her first year of university studies and it was developed by William Sealy Gosset working for Guinness. Plus somebody has to know how to make your beer right? It is a legitimate business and a part of our economy.
