Wonderful, thank you for posting this! I've looked for that song on an off for many years--I think I only ever heard/saw it once, when Jud Strunk was a guest on a 70s variety show (maybe Sonny and Cher). Wonderful to hear it again after all this time.
Thank You. I think it's been over 40 years since I've heard this song. At that time the Vietnam War was going on. I was a young lady, so I didn't have that same relationship as these "best buddies" in the song, I knew many were feeling this kind of loss and it was sad. Now, decades later, it's still a reality, childhood friends die too soon in war, often leaving families.
This sad, sweet song reminds us of the great loss that people experience when loved ones and friends go to war and don't return. But it offers us comfort by letting us know that his next door neighbor's kids are well and (so far) surviving the loss of their father. Thanks for your thoughtful comment, MsCrimson2 -
