I love this scene and this film soo much! I want to order the DVD but I've heard the film has two soundtrack versions (which for me completely change the mood of the film) how do I know the DVD I order has this soundtrack? Anyone's help would be much appreciated! :)

You know, besides E.T, this is the only movie scene that's almost guaranteed to make me cry. And I'm a grown man. Is it my intense love for animals that stirs something deep within me? Is it the hauntingly beautiful music? I think it's a little of both. This scene brings out the tears.

This movie is timeless in every sense of the word. What an amazing fantasy movie to grow up with...and Tangerine Dream is perfect. "Forgive me, I meant no wrong." I never found this line cheesy at all. Though I'm now horrified that A) Tom Cruise turned into a Scientology whack job and I can hardly look at him, B) the newer Director's Cut of this movie has apparently tainted the beauty of the original, and C) my VCR is broken and I can't watch the original!

I think this is a very powerful scene... The sadness and anger of the matriarch mourning over the loss of her companion... She wants to hurt Jack but her logic reigns and calms down to listen to him. She pleads for him to save her companion even though she has little hope in him... It always makes me cry....
I buy the DVD soon, because I like unicorns. It is stupid that do not write under it, which is saying the unicorn with the neighing. Can the unicorns in the film speak? Or only the unicorns whinny? I've never seen this film, but soon, when I got the DVD, I watch it on my native language: German!

I have this movie on dvd digitally remastered. The picture and sound is so much better than when i was young. This is a must own movie never gets old.

God, i love 80's movies. the goonies, all the john hues movies, fast times at ridgemont high, all the nightmare on elm st. movies, and the list goes on forever. Yeah, there were some kick ass movies in the 1990's and during the last 9 years. But, back then it was like one great movie after another. I can't remember another time that I've been alive that it's been like that.

Lol, I am a guy I feel like I am the only manly man that likes this movie. If someone were to see me walkin down the street they would go "no way he would like Legend." But, I do, I think it is my all time favorite movies ever made in this genre I would say number 1 fantasy movie, coming close is Never Ending Story 1 and 2 and Lord of The Rings, Harry Potter, but I don't think no movie can beat this movie from it's time and era so I think this will live as long in my memory.

The only thing Tom Cruise EVER did right, and it's not even him that makes the scene, no other unicorn movie will be anything compared to this scene, I'm a guy and this scene makes me cry every time.
The sad part, is the SE directors cut is a mismash of two versions. (neither being exactly as it were when realeased) when the movie was edited for television, versions were realeased with remasterd edit's that took away from the original format. Simular to topgun Akira and Dune. only the VHS copies are the best.
Zelda!!?? HAAAA. boy what nerds!! this movie came out, a few months after Bladerunner. (hence the same props in Darkness palace as outside the bradbury building in bladerunner)
This means it was out long before any zelda. Get the SE dvd of this and the whole story behind it is there. This was intended to be a much larger story (and film) but the 007soundstage which it was being film on Burned down (including much of this set)
In an interview, Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of the Zelda franchise, in fact admitted this movie was the basis for his game, so the similarities mynibox noticed are no mere coincidence. It's kind of funny to think that when you play Zelda, you're controlling a character based off of Tom Cruise!
Its not as simple as that - the TV version in UK had a different soundtrack (the tangerine dream one) so depending on what country you live, it might be worth staying with your vhs.
The Region 1 'Ultimate Edition' has both versions, both soundtracks. You could either hack your player to play region 1, or get someone to convert it (very easy).
I can't make it through this movie without crying about six or seven times..this is definitely one of the scenes that make me sob like a baby. Part of me still believes, even though I'm a college graduate with a biology major..and another part of me is so moved by the beauty of the horses and the music. Hell, I'll tear up for a good musical freestyle performance.

you know it's funny - you see a few videos on youtube which are out of sync (audio-video) due to an upload error. This Legend video was originally out of sync up until a month ago when I watched it - the only way to correct would be to re-upload it and start from 0 hits... Any ideas on who fixed it??
i can definitely tell you took this video by putting a digital camera right close to the tv, nothing wrong with that! thats how i am going to do it too! its still clear both the picture and sound so its all good. btw this part used to always make me cry and tom cruise is fucking hot in this movie[not to mention others like Top Gun]

The Tangerine Dream soundtrack MAKES this film....I never realized how much a good soundtrack can change a movie. I wish the other orchestrated version didn't exist, if you don't like the TD version, then you don't like the REAL Legend, regardless of what Scott wanted.

Tangerine dream is a German instrumental group. They have several cds in the U.S. I'm not sure if this song was ever released though. I've listened to a lot of TD and I believe this song tops them all.

I tried to like this movie... I really did, but honestly, it's one of the worst I've ever seen. It has bad acting, an unoriginal plot, crappy effects (I know it was the '80's, but still)... I just couldn't get into it at all.
I saw the director's cut a while back and really enjoyed it. I found the orchestral score to be far superior to the Tangerine Dream score. Liked the restored scenes and editing better too. A good film!

This is a seriously awesome movie. I love Tim Curry as the Lord of Darkness, he is perfect. And though I don't like Tom Cruise, he is really good in this movie. This scene wouldn't be the same without this music--I've never seen the director's cut but I can't imagine the movie without the original soundtrack.
A hundred thousand times more powerful than the Jerry Goldsmith score. This truly is the definitive version of Legend, and it breaks my heart that it is not available to buy outside the US.
That's because this film made Nintendo create Legend Of Zelda, this film is where they got the idea from. And this is my favourite film of all time since a kid; all these crap CGI films today make me want to shoot the directors. This is a true fantasy film.

I love this film so much :D it still makes me cry my heart out when the unicorn dies. I'm so glad he is brought back to life at the end! Awesome film, gorgeous soundtrack :D

Lol, I am a guy I feel like I am the only manly man that likes this movie. If someone were to see me walkin down the street they would go "no way he would like Legend." But, I do, I think it is my all time favorite movies ever made in this genre I would say number 1 fantasy movie, coming close is Never Ending Story 1 and 2 and Lord of The Rings, Harry Potter, but I don't think no movie can beat this movie from it's time and era so I think this will live as long in my memory.

The only thing Tom Cruise EVER did right, and it's not even him that makes the scene, no other unicorn movie will be anything compared to this scene, I'm a guy and this scene makes me cry every time.

It's a little harsh to say it's the only thing Tom Cruise has "ever" done right. I can think of a handful of movies where he's done a great job.
I agree with you about the scene though, it gets me everythime too.

The sad part, is the SE directors cut is a mismash of two versions. (neither being exactly as it were when realeased) when the movie was edited for television, versions were realeased with remasterd edit's that took away from the original format. Simular to topgun Akira and Dune. only the VHS copies are the best.

Zelda!!?? HAAAA. boy what nerds!! this movie came out, a few months after Bladerunner. (hence the same props in Darkness palace as outside the bradbury building in bladerunner)
This means it was out long before any zelda. Get the SE dvd of this and the whole story behind it is there. This was intended to be a much larger story (and film) but the 007soundstage which it was being film on Burned down (including much of this set)
so the story had to be reduced.
-and no No zelda in it.

In an interview, Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of the Zelda franchise, in fact admitted this movie was the basis for his game, so the similarities mynibox noticed are no mere coincidence. It's kind of funny to think that when you play Zelda, you're controlling a character based off of Tom Cruise!

Its not as simple as that - the TV version in UK had a different soundtrack (the tangerine dream one) so depending on what country you live, it might be worth staying with your vhs.

The Region 1 'Ultimate Edition' has both versions, both soundtracks. You could either hack your player to play region 1, or get someone to convert it (very easy).

I can't make it through this movie without crying about six or seven times..this is definitely one of the scenes that make me sob like a baby. Part of me still believes, even though I'm a college graduate with a biology major..and another part of me is so moved by the beauty of the horses and the music. Hell, I'll tear up for a good musical freestyle performance.
Cheesy yes, but it still tugs on heartstrings. Especially for those of us who grew up watching this, The Last Unicorn, ect....

you know it's funny - you see a few videos on youtube which are out of sync (audio-video) due to an upload error. This Legend video was originally out of sync up until a month ago when I watched it - the only way to correct would be to re-upload it and start from 0 hits... Any ideas on who fixed it??

i can definitely tell you took this video by putting a digital camera right close to the tv, nothing wrong with that! thats how i am going to do it too! its still clear both the picture and sound so its all good. btw this part used to always make me cry and tom cruise is fucking hot in this movie[not to mention others like Top Gun]

The Tangerine Dream soundtrack MAKES this film....I never realized how much a good soundtrack can change a movie. I wish the other orchestrated version didn't exist, if you don't like the TD version, then you don't like the REAL Legend, regardless of what Scott wanted.

Tangerine dream is a German instrumental group. They have several cds in the U.S. I'm not sure if this song was ever released though. I've listened to a lot of TD and I believe this song tops them all.

I tried to like this movie... I really did, but honestly, it's one of the worst I've ever seen. It has bad acting, an unoriginal plot, crappy effects (I know it was the '80's, but still)... I just couldn't get into it at all.

I saw the director's cut a while back and really enjoyed it. I found the orchestral score to be far superior to the Tangerine Dream score. Liked the restored scenes and editing better too. A good film!

This is a seriously awesome movie. I love Tim Curry as the Lord of Darkness, he is perfect. And though I don't like Tom Cruise, he is really good in this movie. This scene wouldn't be the same without this music--I've never seen the director's cut but I can't imagine the movie without the original soundtrack.

That's because this film made Nintendo create Legend Of Zelda, this film is where they got the idea from. And this is my favourite film of all time since a kid; all these crap CGI films today make me want to shoot the directors. This is a true fantasy film.
