I doubt the salary is really that high. So why is there such an immense number of people willing to put their time and effort toward obtaining a job at Google?
I can imagine that the competition would be immensely fierce and you would require very strenuous university degrees. The only time when the above is worthwhile is when the salary is HIGH! I'm talking $200,000 +. That's why I understand people that aim to become stock brokers or medical specialists.
Way to use many words without actually saying anything...Saying that your resume needs to "stand out" and that going to "a good school and getting good grades helps" is common sense. This looks like two people who are full of themselves and just wanted to make a video. Is this what google management is like? If so, Facebook will take over the internet shortly.
So I seen a Google street view car last year and I stopped and talked to him. I asked how to get a job driving the car around. He said you gotta be lucky I guess. Asshole answer when I was being serious!
Haha, it would be so awesome to work for Google. So few companies are full of people who really believe in what they're doing and the company they work for.
I went through the interview process, it takes quite a while. After 3 months of interview process and a visit to dublin, the position in the Netherlands was given and I was offered to move to Dublin or Hamburg. Not an option for me. Anyways.
The point to remember is that you will be questioned on everything you proclaim on your resume.
Standing out is easy, but you need to be able to back it up. Also, I believe any recruiter is looking for passion above all else. Show why you are passionate!
My friend is just 11, but he can already do coding and is an expert on IT in our school. Sometimes he even helps the technicians. Would you think if he had more practice he would be able to apply for a job at google?
This is the stupidest video Google could have put up to attract or inform future hires.
Look, we're an awesome company, we get lots of resumes, don't send yours if it's not earth shattering, you didn't goto a good school, oh and yeah don't tell us what you did if you didn't frigging invent it, because we have people who invented almost everything you're using, so if you say something stupid we'll embarass you and make you feel retarded.
@Scunner54 Perhaps, (many top tier schools are public and/or cheaper with scholarships) but even so they still said it was *one* thing that helps your resume stand out. In fact, they only spent about four seconds on it and mentioned that a resume is "many parts" and not just one thing about four seconds afterwards. Further, if you think that top tier schools aren't a standout component of a resume to *any* company, you probably haven't written a resume or applied for a job.
@Scunner54 Well, they specifically said that's just one of the ways. Doing something amazing on the internet (or just working on open source projects) is another. I think it sounds harder than it is though, there are so many amazing things that haven't been done yet.
@irot2 There are other areas that they hire in! Check out their jobs page. There are a lot of computer jobs, but they need more than that to keep Google running :)
I want so badly to work on Google... hope you guys start noticing other careers besides engineering-programming...like, I don't know....graphic design?? :o)
Thank you. Useful tips, for ANY job/career, really.
@lifeatgoogle: Are there similar videos available for non-engineering jobs, such as Business, Finance, HR? While I could sit down and start to teach myself code beginning today, it certainly won't be noticed. Well, they might notice how incredibly bad it is :)

Top tier schools can be public or can have scholarships. When you have millions of submissions, you have to draw the line somewhere.
Or go do something incredible! No one will care what you do then.
cga21 1 year ago 11
Not everyone can afford to go to a "top tier school". Quite a narrow minded view of applicant quality.
