Any future altered versions (different instruments, etc.), I would call an arrangement (even if it's the original artist). What I would call a COVER, is when an artist recreates someone's work with as much exactness as possible. This usually sticks to Rock genres. In Classical, this is already a big focus, and I would just call it: playing the piece. :P

Saying something is common knowledge doesn't make it true or your points right.

When I say exactness, I am referring to same instrumentation, same notes, roughly same tempo, etc.

Obviously, there will be timbre differences between different performing musicians, but something that is not distorted from the original.
