  • you christians please don't dare to think that this legacy belongs to you, allright?? keep going to mass and keep your mouth shut when it comes to art and science

  • Beautiful chant; this was played at my father's funeral Mass.

  • Most precious and divine music. As I see it, the promise of the afterlife is a promise of hope and endurance devoid of denomination or designation. if we succeed in overcoming all the burdens of names and get down to the nucleus of it all, that we all hope, pray and sing for the same cause; Love and understanding, we can become one people, one spirit, one promise of hope and endurance.

  • I love the sound of monks singing...

  • I am not a christian but my opinion that this the Voice of Paradise, what a wonderful chant .

  • Gregorian chant is music of healing!!!

How wonderful the song that sings the praises of the Lord is!

However, such a song is not so listened to in the country where I live.

On the contrary, the person of the irreligion has increased recently!

Any nonbeliever person must have God's grace...

  • plaese... sing it only in LATIN :)

i canti gregoriani si cantano solo in latino!!!!!

  • May angels lead you into paradise; upon your arrival, may the martyrs receive you and lead you to the holy city of Jerusalem. May the ranks of angels receive you, and with Lazarus, the poor man, may you have eternal rest.

  • What a lovely piece of music. I understood the Latin without needing the text too...

  • I hate Christianity and Catholicism and I don't want any shit for saying it, but bloody hell these guys can sing. :O

  • @Suckedintooblivion Too true!

  • @Suckedintooblivion i love you so much for being able to apreciate art

  • May I ask who is singing this particular version? And if its on CD? It is such a beautiful piece and the words are so simple and comforting; a soul never leaves this world alone but is led into the presence of God by the Angels and the Saints.

    soll ewiges Leben dich erfreuen.

  • I am honoured to be singing this at a funeral tomorrow. What a beautiful piece. Thank you for this video. It has helped me tremendously in learning it!

May angels lead you into paradise; upon your arrival, may the martyrs receive you and lead you to the holy city of Jerusalem. May the ranks of angels receive you, and with Lazarus, the poor man, may you have eternal rest.

  • have not, sorry:-)

This song was turned on the burial of my

    grandmother this year

    R.I.P Oma 01-09-09

  • No, their pronunciation is ecclesiastical, which is appropriate for a chant of this nature. It would be incorrect to chant it with classical pronunciation.

  • Too much blood in your language.

  • Catholics can just preserve it for 2000 years and then be lambasted by so-called humanists for departing from the normative practices of the first century A.D? Is that what you're saying?

  • yes

  • You're setting a false ideal for yourself and treating perhaps your greatest friend in the actual conservation of the Latin language as a hated enemy.

  • Truly inspiring, bringing a rare light of virtue in a twisted world...Deus et Natura non faciunt frustra

  • Absolutely fantastic!

In this work-a-day, dog-eat-dog world there is very little time left over for contemplating beautiful chants like this one.

  • In English:

May the Angels lead thee into paradise:

May the Martyrs redceive thee at they coming, and lead thee into the holy city of Jerusalem.

May the choir of Angesl receive thee, and mayest thou have eternal rest with Lazarus, who once was poor.

  • Beautiful. Used to be chanted at the grave site when interring the body. Still in use in the pre-Vatican II Latin rite where that can be found, not so in the new rite. Too bad.

  • Actually this is sung as the body is being moved off of the Catafalque and out of church towards the gravesite. It was traditionally sung at a Tridentine Requiem Mass and still is today in a traditional Requiem Mass.

  • sorry your are mistaken, it is still common to sing it at catholic funerals, unlike the Dies Irae.

  • Yes, but usually not in Latin - at least in Germany.

  • truely this s differerent in the Netherlands. Even when a funeral is completely Dutch, very often In paradisum is the last song - in latin. People simly can't miss it.

  • you are lucky!

  • In Paradisum is sung on Catholic funerals?

  • it is, yes

  • yebut only in Tridentine Roman Catholic Funeral and Requiem Mass. That beatifull chant not exist in modern mass

  • thanks :-) so that s why I avent heard it yet...

  • MrDevin, incorrect! Very incorrect. It's in the 1962 Missal that is used by Catholics that attend the Tridentine rite which is accepted. It is also used by some the Solesmnes Benedictines

  • Not so. This antiphoin may still be sung as part of the Mass in the Ordinary Form.

  • the real lyrics:

    IN PARADISUM DEDUCANT aNGELI

    IN TUO ADVENTU SUSCIPIANT TE

MARTYRES ET PERDUCANT TE IN CIVITATEM SANCTAM JERUSALEM JERUSALEM JERUSALEM JERUSALEM CHORUS ANGELORUM TE SUSCIPIAT ET CUM LAZARO QUONDAM PAUPERE ET CUM LAZARO QUONDAM PAUPERE AETERNAM HABEAS REQUIEM AETERNAM HABEAS REQUIEM

  • Bellissimo!

  • Looks like you yourself have a need for some pseudo-intellectual babble to brush up your own lack of ideas and faith.

  • "Freud is dead." -God

  • @dontwanto Didn't you mean Nitzsche?

  • haha great xD

  • @dontwanto was not freud .--- was nitsche lol

  • @baumliebhaber I know. My comment was a reply to another comment quoting Freud. I simply modified a witty comment from Nietsche and inserted Freud's name. Thanks anyway.

  • @dontwanto god aint dead, hes just traveled across the stars a and left us to our own devices. its part of my new christian based religion, called dimentionism.

  • @StoneAngel123 Actually what you've described there is basically Deism, but with a specific emphasis on space-travel. Not technically Christian either, since one of the most basic tenets of Christianity is that God is living and actively involved in life. ;)

  • @nokshor aaaahhh, correct, but theres more to it than that, it all involves jesus and how the world was created. i would explain my theory more, but its over two pages of word, and im sure ur not interested, but thanks for your opinion

  • @dontwanto omg FAIL!

    "God is dead"-Nietzsche

    "Nietzsche is dead"-God

    not Freud!

  • @wieserd Yeah, we've been down this road before. My comment above was a response to a quote by Freud which a user posted some time (2 years) ago. If you had cared to read the comments of two years prior, you'd see that I adapted another quote--the Nietszche quote--in a witty way to respond to the anti-religious quote by Freud which was posted. Thanks for being on top of everything.

  • @dontwanto I think you mean Nietzsche.

  • @dzhigit Yeah, I know Nietzsche said that. There was an anti-religious comment two years ago which used a quote from Freud, so I just modified the Nietzsche quote by inserting Freud's name. If you search the comments from way back, it makes sense.

  • @dontwanto

You mean Nietzsche? They're all the same godless modernists, anyways.

  • Freud has been basically discredited. For one, due to his well documented cocaine addiction. Read Augustine, Aquinas, Anslem, Duns Scotus, Karl Rahner and if you want a mystic, read Thomas Merton. Merton stated that a man's concept of God says more about the man than God.

  • "(Because humans have a strong need for a higher power, they make it for themselves.) that i agree but something made us

  • One of my favorite chance. Sheer perfection.

  • this is absolutely beautiful, have you though of posting the requiem aeternam (i think that's how it is spelled)?

  • Ahhhhh...our choir did this one, this morning and it is indeed captivating. Having just been to 4 funerals this fall(and i am still middle aged), I got a tear in my eye thinking of the new members of the heavenly chorus that we have sent up in the past few months. Thank you for uploading this.

  • I'm singing this tommorow at Mass.

Yeah, it is farewell, it is ussually sung when the coffin is being lowered.

But the Dies Irae, that is something.

Mozart said he would give all his works for having composed the chant.

  • I tjink that tis song is the best ever composed by Roman Catholic! :)

  • Catholic songs are obviously the greatest musical treasure of the world.

  • I'm not catholic. I'm not even christian. But this song is pure beauty. It makes me so peacefull.

  • so what are you waiting for? baptize yourself and join our Saint Roman Church. real catholic makes every believer peaceful

  • I have just left the church. I'm not gonna become cristian/catholic just to enjoy life or music. So sorry no. I like life as it is XD

  • =/ Oh come on, the music is just a side perk. Being Catholic has made my life worth something.

  • Well if that's how you feel then that's how you feel. I'm just saying it's nothing for me. I dont believe in the values they stand for. And y try and convince me. I'm not trying to get u to turn your back on the curch. It's a personal chose we all make. You have made yours and I have made mine. But the music is still great XD

  • Don't worry, I'm not trying to evangelize via youtube ha ha =). I was simply reacting to your works is all. I love the music too. we sang this at my grandfathers funeral last week.

  • Well that's good...my works? btw I'm sorry for your loss

  • God gave us free will for a reason and you do what you think it is right.

  • This music makes me forget my troubles and be extremely peaceful

  • l0l I'm from Vorarlberg [Austria] and ... chant has the second place in our charts. And I'm reaLLy proud of them [lol] because obvesily they are not only in Austria famous... lol ... sorry for my ... broken? english (haha) =) greets from Austria ... =)

  • cristus love us ,,,

  • Thank you so much for posting this. I've been looking for this recording for a long time! Magical!

  • In my chorus, we sing these beautiful hymns...

  • In our country this hym is played when the coffing is carried out of the church to be buried.

Is it in other countries a more neutral song, I mean not played during a wake, ...

  • In Poland it is also sung in this situation.

  • I'm in the US and we also sing this chant as a "song of farewell" in the catholic church. Thanks for posting this..makes learning it MUCH easier.

  • perfect

  • your protestant? um yeah I can tell.

  • not understand. be religious means love each other and respect their activities of each group of people, because JesusChrist love us

  • et vidit Deus quod esset bonum

  • You can almost smell the incence...

  • God + Music= everlasting beauty! There's no good music without inspiration. Only music inspired from above can have eternal influence!

  • jesus washes away all sorrow to be in peace of God

  • it dosent matter what it means its to peaceful for a translation. its a religious doctrine that is being sung in latin.

  • Well, it is not a religious doctrine that it should be sung in Latin. But meaning, sound and score are so happily married, that it would be foolish to change one tiny thing. How would a painting by Rembrandt look in water-colours? And japanese woodblock prints in oil? Never change a winning team, that's all: no religion.

  • Let me remind you that it was faith in Jesus' promise of eternal life what inspired this work of art.

  • Indeed inspired by belief. I mistook the sentence to mean: that it is a religious doctrine that we should sing in Latin. But what a happy marriage in the Old Church of meaning, sound and melody all the same, is it not? Tantum ergo has such a simple melody und such a deep meaning. A nom the plume that makes me expect something of you.

  • I agree

  • any one know what it means

  • May the angels receive thee in paradise,

at thy coming may the martyrs receive

thee, and bring thee into the Holy

    city Jerusalem.

May the choir of angels receive thee

and with Lazarus, once a beggar,

    may thou have eternal rest.

  • I mistook this for "In Paradisum" from 28 Days Later. But this is cool to listen to. ^_^

  • Yeah, me too.

  • However we cant hear it during our funerals because we are dead lol. But it still is a good chant

  • I want to hear it during my funeral :)
