  • for an old commercial,it sure is brilliant

  • my first car was a 2 door Comet with a str8 6 that ad brings back memories

  • We had a 1974 - 4 door six cylinder engine (251cid). That damn thing is still running.

  • comet is beautiful...........BULL

  • Man, I had one of these back in the day. Biggest piece of junk in the world: gutless engine that would keep running after I turned the car off and one whole whopping speaker in the dash.

  • Learned how to drive as a teen in the early 80's with the parents 71 Comet 2dr,302.

    Fun times.

Car was very reliable, but the handling and braking with 4 wheel manual drums was bad.

  • whats with the cat at the end

  • 1971? The car i just bought looks EXACTLY like this and was billed as a 1974, but I cant find anything from 74 that looks like this (they are all 2-dr) - do I have a 71 or a 74?

  • @tylerrlove i have exactly the same car as this one exept the paint and the black interior and its a 1973...

  • Holy crap! Those little things came with a V8???

  • They were good cars for the time. You got more car for your money back then.

  • My parents bought one of these in 1970 for 2700.00 bucks. yikes.

  • It can outrun a bull! LOL!

Neat find. I get really nostalgic seeing the 'sign of the cat' again, reminds me of watching TV with my grandfather as a little kid.

  • When did Mercury stop using the cat in its ads?

  • A small car with a V8. Those were the days.

  • This is actually from 1971, but nice find!

  • The ad aired in late 1970... Yes, it is a 1971 model though.

  • i've gotta admit i've seen better looking pintos

  • lol are you kidding comets are sick my mom has one and its 2 door its soo nice it sounds sexy btw this is my moms account

  • Lol how ironic.

  • american small car!! in wales that is the bigest car you will ever c ha small my ass no wonder american cars carnt get around a corner but dont get me rong i love the mustang gt even know i only gos 100 mph a smal car in wales with a 1.1engine will go faster :L

  • FAIL!! your a big FAIL!!!

Small cars are usualy ugly, boring, crap and has no power at all, a VW Polo can't handle at all going over 30, but thats the fastest they can go...

  • @CDTbossy

    "Your"?

Sure YOU'RE not the big fail?

  • @tylerrlove English is not my mother tongue

  • what a POS.

  • What a pos...? I bet you drive a station wagon. Actually the Comet is a piece of American muscle that (people like you) probably will never drive... Mercry Comets are awesome....

  • I drive a stationwagon(86 Colony Park)and like these things. My in-laws had one for over250,000 miles. And sold it to somebody else, who expected to be having it a long time. These are re-skinned Ford Falcons,so they'd worked all the bugs out, they just needed a new image.I wouldn't mind having one of these.

  • after 1969 all comets were a POS.

give me a 69 cyclone 428cj, thats a "muscle car".

  • terrible huh

  • With lame commercials like that, it is a wonder they ever sold one. I have '71 Comet GT in another video posted by Fuelman1975

  • why do all new cars suck?

  • God, I want one. With a 302 V8. Maybe the Stereo Sonic optional radio, too...

  • How remembers the commercials that were from the TV series THE FBI? The Ford Motor Company was the sponsor for the show.

  • The beginning of the decline of the American Auto industry...wasn't this the companion to the infamous "Ford Pinto?"

  • No,it's a Falcon/Mustang in disguise.Pintos were a little smaller and based on a Mazda platform.Pinto's stablemates are the Mercury Bobcat and Mustang II.

  • My friend, may I ask you something? The whells cover (calotte?) of my car are the same as Mercury Comet? Here my car, brazilian Ford Maverick. I want to buy brand new whells cover. Thanks a lot. Too see my car, search for "meu lindo maverick", that's the beautifull golden Maverick.

  • No time to put put on the seat belts it seems.

  • yeah, cause you never know when THAT might happen...
