  • i do like the quiet sweet country living and letting time slip away

  • This is the singer I measure every other male country music artist against.A few come close, most don't.I have about 60 Waylon LP's & many CD's.It's impossible to pick a favorite song because there are so many good ones.

  • Great version of a great song.

You don't need to compare versions, enjoy them both.

  • There is nothing like him. I am a parrot head but even JB would admit that Waymore had a good take on this classic. There were a couple of production errors though. The instrumental change at the beginning of the second verse was distracting and the tag of the girls voices was not good. But, Waylon was his normal near perfect, one take self. Damn, I miss him so. If you want to hear great Waylon interpretation listen to "Learning the Game" off the Buddy Holly tribute album. It is fine.

  • @john9944 Thanks John i appreciate that I have to say, i do like JB a lot and i know this is his song, i bet he don't mind the changes likes 'em may be , but you made a great comment Thank you ... tc my friend

  • honestly i like the jimmy buffett version better

  • @tcwf21496 There is nothing wrong with that my friend i like Jimmy Buffet version. i just happen to be a big Waylon too thanks for commenting ...tc

  • @TheDilligaf5 I don't doubt that at all i will look for that thank you .

  • waylon's version is the best!

  • I think so too ...

  • Just gotta tell ya that there were afew times when I heard this song and was just so happy to stil be alive. Much Love Waylon!!

  • Yea a great song and so different from the original by Jimmy Buffet

  • WAYMORE DOES MAKE IT HIS OWN

  • that goes for anything he does..what a guy he was

  • @onthejobhazzards101

I couldn't agree more about Waylon making this song his own. Waylon sang with such compassion and such wonderful phrasing and pacing. What is so wonderful about Waylon on a ballad is the strong-but-gentle masculine beauty of his voice. I love the spare instrumental backing, too...just enough to bring home a point, here and there. What an incredible cover.

  • @westpoint64 Wow...I couldn't find the words but there they are: "strong but gentle masculine beauty of his voice"....PERFECTLY ARTICULATED!!!!

  • Thanks for the reply. I always have great respect for Waylon's music and abilities. Each time I sing a show, I try to get in at least one Waylon cover. Most likely, I will be covering "Only Daddy That'll Walk the Line" sometime this year on my channel. Stay tuned...

  • @shinnymissjenny EBAY!!! there are people selling them there... I just got a couple of them. Go on Ebay and search "Waylon Jennings logo"... I paid about $4 for 2 of them...very nice.

  • I love this song. Waylon sure sings his best. I am crazy for this song.

  • thats one the most rediculous statements ive ever read.

  • that is completely false. Buffett wrote it, nobody plays any of his stuff better than buffett himself.

  • Your statement is true, if your a Jimmy Buffet fan which you must be, but most people who come to this page will be Waylon fans which i am, but that don't mean i don't like the Buffet version it just means, Waylon fans prefer him singing any song. And it seems you are not allowing people to have their own opinion which is not false but stupid.

  • I'm a Parrothead AND a Waylon fan. This is nicely done, but I have the original somewhere (not bad for an 18-year-old, huh?) they both have their ups and downs in comparisons. I just wish Jimmy and Waylon could have done a duet on this one.

  • I gotta say for an 18 year old that is good!!!

i think that would have been a great duo on a few songs Thanks for commenting TC

  • Thanks, Ted. My family got me into all the good music.

They would've made some damn fine music! I wonder if we could talk Shooter into doing something with Buffett now.

No problem. Thanks for the great track!

    ~C.J.

  • Thanks for this, plus the other rare Waylon songs - fantastic!
