I bought the Sony HX1 a few months ago. I previously owned a Sony DSC-H50.

I am very impressed by the quality of the 1080p HD video that it takes. I have some videos I took in HD with the Sony HX1 posted on my Youtube account. It has a stereo mic, but lacks an external mic jack.Also, unlike my previous DSC-H50, the HX1 does not offer a remote control.

i found out that in panorama mode you have just 10 seconds to shot the panorama, after 10 sec camera stops, so neither too slow nor too fast is good

And another thing that i didn't find anywhere on the internet or review: the camera has a motion sensor inside and when you shot in portrait mode it automatically rotates the photo in playback mode and saves it the way you shot it.

so if you shot a panorama horizontally but in vertical mode, that will come up horizontally.nice

Just to be clear you MUST use a memory pro duo stick to use this camera. With the stick you can take full resolution shots at 10 frames per second . This review left me thinking that you don't have to use a memmory stick to use this camera and you absolutely must! Also buy a sony brand card to avoid a message saying the card isnt't combatable even though it is. Great vid but cmon guys add a stick for a review this is a great camera!

The HX5v is the latest zoom camera but it is not a superzoom it's a travel zoom. This one has a 20x zoom lens and is a medium sized camera. The HX5 is a small pocket camera with 12x zoom.

@atyl1972 Einstein. Point and shoot cameras use lenses, and have Aperture priority, Shutter Priority, and Manual Mode. It's the sensor, and it's size that make the real difference in image quality.

@manubobyvarghese Yea! me too.. Many people tells that this is more good than nikon p100. and other negative comment about nikon p100 is when you are pressing the zoom button, the zoom is so noisy and it's like cracking up. :)

Go with the HX1 the Nikon isn't even made by Nikon it justs has their name on it. The picture qaulity is also supposed to be bad because of the lenses. Trust me I love Nikon and was really dissappointed with it.

I have this camera and a G5 mac, they work fine together. Just plug the usb cable in and it reads it like another drive. There is no Sony software for video editing on Mac, but you can easily use Imovie HD or several others. Great camera.

the difference is.... a dslr uses lenses which makes it more usable in photography....quality on this camera will not match a dslr..... dslr has more in camera functionaliyt, such as, aperture settings, shutter settings and so on... dslr are known for better quality sensors inside the camera and are generally quicker to process pictures as well as adjust internally for recomposition.i have owned this camer and all beit a nice camera it is in no league near the quality of a dslr with a good lens

If you are considering the Sony HX-1 or Canon SX1 IS, you should also consider the Casio EX-F1 because it has a focus ring around the lens, a external mic jack, a hot shoe, a threaded lens for UV filters, and slow motion (if you want something fun). Hard to believe it's from Casio. The problem is the price.

For Hx1 everything sounds perfect, except the picture quality with 9mp. 1 year ago I bought a camera which was still simple, has 9mp. Now sony offer a good cam but again 9mp. I believe soon they will announce another H series camera with higher megapixel picture quality. I believe the HX1 just doesn't deliver the photo quality expected for its class...

Megapixels do not mean image quality, they mean image size. For example 9mp pictures are meant for papers sized a3. It's the cell which mainly effects on the image quality. You can see this easily by using phone cams, they might have huge amounts of mega pixels but the image quality is average at best, even in optimal environment.

It sucks that the HX1 only takes up 10 shots in burst mode. My H9 takes 3fps upto the size of the memory card @ 8MP. I still upgraded to the HX1 for the HD Movies.
