When it joined the Euro it borrowed more cheaply. Insteading of using this amazing opportunity to pay off expensive money with cheaper money it went on a spending spree like a drunken sailor. This was the plan behind the Euro all the time. Get smaller more vunerable economys into debt as they are too small to compete in a global free trade environment. Then when the smaller nations begin to fail the larger economies that are link by the common currency will be forced to bail them out. This in turn weakens the larger economies and escalates the crisis until even the largest economies fail. then the Rothchilds new world order comes in and takes what it wants and makes the people slaves

I agree with part of what Max is saying. But Greece has defaulted on its debt time and time again. The Greeks don't want to pay the taxes for the expansive social welfare state. Their govt. then borrows money. They used to just print their way out when they issued the drachma. When they joioned the EU they were thought to be a safe risk because there was an implied safety net for bondholders in the credit worthiness of the rest of the EU. The bondholders/banks shouldn't get bailed out though.
