@laiholapso You're kidding, right?... (gags)... No, dear heart, he's from King Crimson--and Iron Maiden wants to be King Crimson, when they grow up... ;)
The moment I heard this song I was smitten!! Then I heard, "Model Man" by Belew and I was riven with pleasure. Then I heard "Young Lions" by Belew, about the scene surrounding the crucifixion of Christ and I regard it as arguably the greatest song the earth has ever produced.
the man's got a resume' to beat all. so he goes on the road with a lil' band . singing and twangin' on the guitar . no harm done . he needs a better band that's all.
Seems like I'm not on my own: "The musicianship is quite sloppy - the beat is all over the place and vocally it's not his best" - exactly what I said but perhaps in a less strong way!!! And, by the way, I HAVE heard amateur bands produce better than this. Maybe this wasn't his best performance; maybe some of the other stuff he did in the past is a lot better but I was commenting on THIS performance which, let's be honest, isn't all that good!! Volume doesn't make up for a poor performance!
@ScrumptiousStrat Both of which are a matter of opinion... And seeing as how you're so adamant to denounce Adrian, I'd bet your quite partial, as well.
@Cyanic814. You're quite right, I am partial - to good music, but not this stuff and if you read all the posts on this topic I'm, obviously, not the only one who feels this way!!!
i love adrian and i love king crimson sooo much... but this is not crimson... and you can tell... the musicianship is quite sloppy... the beat is all over the place... and vocally its not his best... but... still a great song... but a bad gig t'would seem... xx xx
It isn't a case of being delusional, it's a case of being honest enough to pass an opinion that doesn't necessarily go along with the rest of the sheep! Just because you think this is great, does that mean that everybody else has to as well? If you bothered to compare some guitarists who can REALLY play with this stuff you'd realise what I was talking about. Do grow up!!
You know, I recognize that Adrian Belew is a talented man but I've never been a fan of his guitar work...maybe I don't understand it but I'm much more blues/jazz oriented and I think Mr. Belew is pushing a different boundary?? Thanks.
"Just because you think this is great, does that mean that everybody else has to as well?"
No, it doesn't. Though I sincerely doubt the substance of your argument when you spew out something like, "I've heard amateurs produce better than this tuneless, off-key, ear assaulting drivel."
If you care to be taken seriously, don't exaggerate to such extremes in your opposition; it's the mark of someone whose logic needs to "grow up".

I thought this guy was supposed to be able to sing and play?? Very few of the other videos I've seen of him are much better than this one. I've heard amateurs produce better than this tuneless, off-key, ear assaulting drivel. This is very much a case of the hype creating the man, not the man creating the hype!!
I was there at this show. If it is the Nov 7 show, it was my birthday and Adrian signed the shirt on my back. If not, it was the Belly-up show done about 1.5 years later, either way, I wuz there!! He mingled with the crowd for an hour after the show. Freekin awesome
both the bassist and drummer were picked up from the paul green school of rock music in philedelphia. He went there one day to give a special lesson to the kids and ended up hiring two of them
The bass player and drummer are siblings, actually - Eric and Julie Slick. Adrian was a guest professor at the school and Paul introduced Eric and Julie to Ade as the best students he's ever seen. The three of them played 'City of Tiny Lites' together as the audition four years ago. Julie owns and operates a studio in Philly and engineers and produces other local bands. (Cheers Elephant) She also works as a server in a restaurant when she's not on the road.
Yeah the slicks are great, i actually just saw Eric slick with his other project Crescent moon a few months ago, and they rock just as hard, its just him and this bassist, i forget his name, but hes great.
I met the band at a meet and greet the day after their show here and keep in touch with Julie occasionally. (She shared the story behind the bare feet with me...very funny.) Anyhoo, She and Eric have a new project, PAPERCAT, you can visit them on MySpace if you're interested.

And for those taking umbrage with a man dancing in a tornado of difficult guitar notes - these little sins betray a larger marring of your soul.
