Also, For your money I would prefer a Carvin custom shop to just about any other name. Infact you could take any $4000 Gibson and I would rather trade it for a $2000 Carvin made to my specks. Neck through body for a better resonance. Stainless jumbo fret wire that last longer then the crap gibson uses. Coil taps, AAAA top wood choice (Gibson only offers AAA on standard guitars) plus a much wider choice of woods, Fretboard wood radius and inlay material, Paintjob, Bridge, pickups, headstock...
Um dude. I'm a guitar instructor and have students that have been accepted to Berkley with a full scholarship after only playing for a few years. Allow me to advise you that with Gibson you do get a fair instrament, but about 50% of the money you spend on them is for the name. And also I'd be willing to bet that if you handed Slash a $300 china made SG or Les Paul copy, He would blow the doors off a house, and you would never be the wiser.

OK guys I will give you both sides of the story....I own a 61 SG re-issue by Gibson...have had it for a few years...love it....I needed a practice guitar, bought a cheaper EPI SG-400 worn cherry..had DiMarzio DP227 pickups installed...and a couple of other tweaks...now the Gibson is my "practice" or backup guitar....and the EPI blows it away...now I could tweak the Gibson but I just haven't had the time..almost any guitar can sound great...but it is the player, not the instrument...period.

If anything, you're the "poser". A Gibson is a status symbol to show everyone you have lots of money. You don't need a Gibson to be a good guitarist.
A "real" guitarist can make ANY guitar sound good, even a cheap Wal-Mart guitar, or even a fake copy.
I have a (Korean made) PRS SE Orianthi Signature guitar (paid $625CAD) and the parts & finish quality is as good as a $5000 Gibson, and it sounds 10X better.

My son's been playing for over 15 years. He had a Strat, didn't like the simple sound, thick neck and constant hum from the amp. He tried a Gibson LP, didn't like it, said the neck was too fat and heavy. He LOVES his cheap Profile guitar (looks like a Jackson), awesome sounds and very easy to play on.

My 2010 sg standard ebony has 498 T bridge 490 R neck pickups. and my 2011 LP standard has burstbucker pro's. But since your guitars are a bit older they could have the same pickups. Also i think the sg is lighter because less wood is used. grtz

sometimes for some people half the fun of owning a cheap guitar is that you can up grade all the parts, and wiring if you desire different sounds, or tones, as long as the wood is good, and resonates. I have a jay turser vintage series strat that resonates like it's still alive, all I did was replace the nut to a tusk nut, and replaced the tuners to grover deluxe, and it sounds just as good as any american made strat.

well I'm not, its just an ebony SG standard, a rather plain guitar (keep her in a case dude! I saw the dust on your SG in your other video and I just about had a heart attack, dust will degrade that guitar over time, its like sandpaper and is evil on guitar finishes!), I'm impressed of my own 2011 SG standard however, gorgeous baked maple fretboard and limited vintage sunburst finish, the best finish the SG has had in my opinion, go check it out in my video.Cheers

@DIOSpeedDemon yeahr they are cool. I normaly prefer vintage style guitars but last year I bought a 2010 americane standard with maple neck and I just love it. Maybe have to change the pickups to some vintage style once, but the wood is so much better than the cheap mexicane standard.

Also, For your money I would prefer a Carvin custom shop to just about any other name. Infact you could take any $4000 Gibson and I would rather trade it for a $2000 Carvin made to my specks. Neck through body for a better resonance. Stainless jumbo fret wire that last longer then the crap gibson uses. Coil taps, AAAA top wood choice (Gibson only offers AAA on standard guitars) plus a much wider choice of woods, Fretboard wood radius and inlay material, Paintjob, Bridge, pickups, headstock...

Um dude. I'm a guitar instructor and have students that have been accepted to Berkley with a full scholarship after only playing for a few years. Allow me to advise you that with Gibson you do get a fair instrament, but about 50% of the money you spend on them is for the name. And also I'd be willing to bet that if you handed Slash a $300 china made SG or Les Paul copy, He would blow the doors off a house, and you would never be the wiser.

OK guys I will give you both sides of the story....I own a 61 SG re-issue by Gibson...have had it for a few years...love it....I needed a practice guitar, bought a cheaper EPI SG-400 worn cherry..had DiMarzio DP227 pickups installed...and a couple of other tweaks...now the Gibson is my "practice" or backup guitar....and the EPI blows it away...now I could tweak the Gibson but I just haven't had the time..almost any guitar can sound great...but it is the player, not the instrument...period.

A "real" guitarist can make ANY guitar sound good, even a cheap Wal-Mart guitar, or even a fake copy.
I have a (Korean made) PRS SE Orianthi Signature guitar (paid $625CAD) and the parts & finish quality is as good as a $5000 Gibson, and it sounds 10X better.

I compare gibson to bentley. sure some custom and vos models are way to expensive. but thats just because gibson wants to keep them exclusive. and this is a good thing. My 2010 sg standard ebony has 498 T bridge 490 R neck pickups. and my 2011 LP standard has burstbucker pro's. But since your guitars are a bit older they could have the same pickups. Also i think the sg is lighter because less wood is used. grtz

sometimes for some people half the fun of owning a cheap guitar is that you can up grade all the parts, and wiring if you desire different sounds, or tones, as long as the wood is good, and resonates. I have a jay turser vintage series strat that resonates like it's still alive, all I did was replace the nut to a tusk nut, and replaced the tuners to grover deluxe, and it sounds just as good as any american made strat.

well I'm not, its just an ebony SG standard, a rather plain guitar (keep her in a case dude! I saw the dust on your SG in your other video and I just about had a heart attack, dust will degrade that guitar over time, its like sandpaper and is evil on guitar finishes!), I'm impressed of my own 2011 SG standard however, gorgeous baked maple fretboard and limited vintage sunburst finish, the best finish the SG has had in my opinion, go check it out in my video.Cheers

@DIOSpeedDemon yeahr they are cool. I normaly prefer vintage style guitars but last year I bought a 2010 americane standard with maple neck and I just love it. Maybe have to change the pickups to some vintage style once, but the wood is so much better than the cheap mexicane standard.
