Lmao this is so stupid....they did it again on this weeks episode... Jen placed the bottle on the table, the camera zoomed in "I have Midol Complete...it relieves the cramps, bloating.." haha so stupid! Love the show but sometimes....seriously?
"Product placement" is nothing new: when sponsors bought entire half-hours (and some hour-long shows) in the late '40s, '50s and '60s, they often saw to it their product(s) were seen in the background- if it were an appliance manufacturer, they might be seen in kitchen settings, living rooms, et. al. If it was a cigarette, it was usually between the star's fingers. An automobile company? Right in the driveway....
what the heck happened to the good old days, when John and Marlena were still on and Days of Our Lives wasn't some ghastly hour-long advertisement? This girl was Theresa from "Passions"- I used to really like her character, too.
And you can find her on "All My Children"... where they don't do cheap promos, they tell STORIES. Granted, some may be recycled tripe (Ryan/Greenlee) but others are pure GOLD (Angie/Jesse).
I've actually been utilizing a great deal of Midol in my own practice of late. I happen to be a urogynecologist by specialty, though this medication enjoys applications in a number of treatment protocols. Unfortunately, and older formula is no longer available, so the highly efficacious sympathomimetic agent based formulation cannot be utilized. While generalized efficacy measures are not as robust as they were under the whilom formulation, this medication in its current incarnation is useful.
People, if you want to fight this, you're going to have to compromise and stop using TiVo to skip commercials. Otherwise, they'll just keep slipping this shit in till newscasters are drinking (and actively promoting) Star Bucks Coffee and they're making movies about how awesome some new cell phone is, or hero cars that save everybody and happen to all be GM vehicles.
Just kidding, they're already doing that with MSNBC, Cellular and Transformers.
General Hospital was doing a bunch of Campbells soup and V8 Splash product placements for a while - for Heart Healthy month. It was very much awkward.
Honestly, when you show the product, say it's name, and have a character benefit from using it you cross a line past product-placement and you're pretty much just filming a full-fledged commercial.
@clairebabybloo lol ik! They might as well just stare at the camera while talking about it, that's how obvious these things are! Lmao

It's enough that shows have to have commercials in them. Now they have to put commercials inside the actual shows too?

@Felamine without commercials, we'd have to pay to watch shows like this! oh wait...

On one hand this seems awkward but look up the origin of soap operas and then it doesn't seem so far fetched
