Hey, i've recently gotten to interrest in minecart stations, and i have made one of my own. Pez dispenser, direct cart dispensing, track chooser, loader and overflow. Is it possible that you can show your whole minecart station? I want to see everything together, since i dont really feel like going through all your videos to see which ones work and which doesn't. Thanks in advance!
Actually, the same thing can be done with less work: Simply use another detector rail as close as possible to the piston and prolong the signal transmission with repeaters. The amount of repeater is of course dependent on the distance between the detector rail and the pit. The piston should be activated after the minecart has fallen down the pit.
With this method, neither the pulse generator nor the torch chain is needed.
awesome videos! I built two stations. One with the no piston method and one with pistons! I would like to make a video of my map soon to show it. These tutorials where a great help! I will be sure to credit necramar for the stations concept!
Is it possible at all that you could make it so in the departures and the arrivals, that the cart sits on a rail? It falls down though blocks on my server :/. Please reply :D
Wow, I actually didn't see a single video of you until now, but you're instant-subscribed just because of your more than benevolent replies to comments, you know, not being smug about things and staying cool and stuff. I really like that.
And your tutorial is really helping either. Keep it up, man.
I figure that there was a point when I was running around going, "WHAT'S THAT GREEN THING?!?!? WHY DID IT EXPLOOOODE????" just like everyone else. No reason to be smug about things. :)
Anyway, I just play around with things and do tutorials more than I actually play the game, at this point, so helping people out and responding to comments makes up a pretty large part of my minecraft experience.
@necramar That's a pretty philanthropic approach, I'd say so.
It's an interesting thought tough - what exactly does one own's Minecraft experience revolve around? Might even be a reflection of sorts of one's real or idealistic way of actually experiencing life and stuff. - My approach would be the scientific-engineering one, with experimenting and trying to work things out. Inventing mechanisms and trying to find new ways of architectural styling. I'm not good at being really productive though.
@GrafKarpador I've got a philosophy/computer science background (weird combination, I know) and I used to build robots out of random garbage....so yeah, minecart stations are right up my alley. XD
@necramar why weird? If that's the thing you like and do, there shouldn't be anything too weird about it. I like the concept of studying 2 or more relatively unrelated directions because after all the human mind doesn't need to be locked on exactly one thing it's good at, right?
Loving the new tutorials! I was wondering on this one... do you have any ideas on what to do with the overflow carts once they are in there. I mean eventually if there are problems with too many carts, you could have like 50 cars in that hole. I like the idea but it seems weird.
Maybe near the top you could do something that involves a detection rail and a timed piston that fires it off elsewhere if it stays on the detection rail long enough? But then you wouldn't be able to have the PEZ dispenser be just one straight vertical line, but that shouldn't be too bad of a problem?
@felinoel The only real problem I see with that idea is that, if the cart is actually on top of the detector rail, there's no way for a piston to push just the cart off. It would push the whole rail (including the cart on top). You might be able to do something with sticky pistons and swapping the detector rail out for a powered rail...but that gets really complicated, really fast.
Ugh am having some issues with my screen recorder so took some screenshots, ok so you got your basic PEZ dispenser, but right before the drop to where it fills the dispenser, there is a detector rail
htt p://i46.photobucket.co m/albums/f130/felinoel/Minecraft/Screenshot-35.p ng
It doesn't have to be going down or anything I just did that so you could see it, that detector rail fires off some redstone, then hits some two repeaters set to four (though one set to four might be enough)
Then the cart falls down and the piston eventually pushes forward, if it is too full the piston would push a cart, if not then the piston would do nothing.
...oops just noticed that I used sticky pistons... don't do that xD
Hi, me again lol, my carts in my PEZ dispenser falling down to load it tend to fall too far for some reason and go straight through the bottom block that they are supposed to sit on, and more carts just shove the carts down another block, they sit inside blocks? Any thoughts on why this is? I am in SMP if that is the reason...
@theKarnedge Hmm, some folks just have them fall in to lava, rather than stacking up (like on a multiplayer server, where minecarts are essentially "free").
Other folks have them going to a second PEZ dispenser (though the wiring gets a bit more complicated for that)...but yeah, I think it's just as easy to have them sitting there ready to be reused if your PEZ dispenser is getting low.
Another great production. It seems like you could get away without the pulse generator after you removed those powered rails prior to the detector rail. If not, maybe move that detector rail back two blocks (since there isn't powered rails there.) Anyway, I like your components and modeled my station after them. Thanks!
@air41061 Yep, you can do without the pulse generator, if your cart has far enough to travel that the piston is able to fully retract before the cart gets there (or if you can make it go slow enough).
@TechDeckClan I used a program called MCEdit to create the world like that. There's a demo file in the video description, so you can just download the test world if you'd like a similar one.
Genius! The method I was contemplating for this problem isn't nearly as elegant. You're spoiling us with these awesome solutions... not that I'm complaining! Thanks for another useful guide!
Have you ever thought about doing a tutorial with a bit less explanation? Don't get me wrong, it's great to know why everything does what it does, but redstone stuff can get really overwhelming. Just a step by step guide might be more helpful.
@LONcreeps Maybe it's a matter of opinion to some degree, but personally I feel that it's helpful to know the reasons WHY a person is doing something, rather than just getting told "do this, then this, then this".
A list of instructions is great if your only goal is to reproduce the design block for block, but if you really want to understand why something works (and how to fix it when it doesn't work), then I think a little more detail is important.
@necramar That's kinda what I was saying. You have loads of awesome videos dedicated to building minecart stations and their components, but if I wanted to sit down right now and build one, I would have to go through several videos and skip through all the bits I knew, since my only problem is remembering what goes where. I guess you could say these videos are more for a redstone enthusiast that someone that just wants a station ^^
@hellbuck In a lot of cases, they can be used interchangeably (don't quote me on that), but in this case the design I show is a pulse generator rather than a monostable circuit. You could probably use a monostable circuit design instead, though, and it would work fine.
Fantastic, never would have thought to have done it that way! Thanks also for responding to my comments regarding this in the previous Pez dispenser video.
Make a compact version fit 1.1? Or even a world edit schematic?

Wouldn't it be better to have the departure zones detector rail send power to a rail which the overflow'd carts sit.
This would utilize the overflowed carts instead of just having them sit there :p

do you know how to add in a system where you can go to multiple tracks all leading from the same track? :D

@TechDeckClan
You don't. There's this new thing. It's called worldedit.
Even an idiot could figure out that no map naturally has a big square walled piece of flat cobblestone going several blocks deep.
zerohourkevin 7 months ago
@zerohourkevin I don't think he thought the world spawned that way naturally; he was just asking how I got it.
There's no reason to be rude. Just because someone doesn't know how to do something doesn't mean that they should be mocked for asking.
If he already knew everything about Minecraft, why would he be watching a tutorial?
