miss you Steve and "death is greatest invention of life", it's just so true, Steve. Switch on and switch off, life done & mission complete.(no hell or heaven)
At this point Jobs was in the "where are they now?' file & no one had any idea what a John Lasseter was. Charlie Rose was the most important talk show for intelligent adults on television (this was before the internet as we know it). Just to put this in perspective. I'm sure both of his guests were happy for the air time.
A lot of you commenters are mistaking "grilling" for "being a dick"
It's a way of getting interesting answers out of people. If you just fawn over people and tell them how much you love their work you'll never get that person to really dig deep to answer questions.
I think it's funny that Charlie Rose is so wrapped up in trying to figure out why Steve Jobs got involved in this, and clearly has no idea that the person on his other side is about to become one of the most important figures in the entertainment industry for the next decade.
@MronoC I think he can't understand why someone he sees as a businessman would be so interested in something artistic and creative. It's a shame that disparity is seen so much today - obviously jobs was an exception and was totally blown away by what he saw in Pixar.
RIP, Steve Jobs. Love him or hate him, you can't deny this man has achieved something monumental in his field. It's hard to imagine what I would do with my creative passions without his products. I thank you, sir.
You can just feel Steve Job's agony @ 18:32. It's like he knows, the child he created is going to die, and there's nothing he can do about it. Knowing that if he somehow came back, he could resurrect the great ship known as Apple Computers. Look what ended up happening, the story of a lifetime.
Charlie Rose is the interviewer, is still around, does a great interview, and interviews the finest minds in the world. That said of the 30 interviews I've seen this is one of his worst. Fun to see Jobs in this portion of his life. His reason for being was Apple and the world is better off because he was able to come back.
"TOY STORY" WAS RELEASED IN THE YEAR NINETEEN NINETYFIVE AND THE HOST SAID "TOY STORY MADE HISTORY LAST YEAR", SO THIS "INTERVIEW VIDEO" WAS ORIGINALLY AIRED IN THE YEAR NINETEEN NINETYSIX. YOU NEED TO BE MORE OBSERVANT.
@jakeharvey Steve was just the investor. He shouldn't even be in this interview, imo. He was thinking of selling Pixar as late at 1994. It's a good thing he didn't take too much credit but he did use his position at Pixar as leverage when he was negotiating Apple's buyout of Next.
Don't you get it?
Without Steve Pixar wouldn't have born. Lassater is a delicacy. Steve it a silver bowl to hold it.

Wow, Charlie Rose is such a prick to Lasseter and Jobs.

This is very clearly not Charlie Rose's finest hour.
He is painfully unprepared.

Charlie Rose to Steve Jobs at 18.25 "you know something about the computer business too".
Eh, no SH*T sherlock! Its STEVE - F'n - JOBS!!!!
HE INVENTED THE COMPUTER BUSINESS!!!
Like saying Henry Ford might know something about cars.
WaytheWestWasWon 2 weeks ago
I bet throughout the whole interview, Jobs must have been thinking about, "My god, this guy is an IDIOT" (referring to Charlie Rose). XD

I'm sure Steve & John would have never granted Rose an interview again.
This video should be used to demonstrate how NOT to do an interview!

I like how Charlie tries to write Pixar off as a plain animation studio which is just using 'a different paintbrush'.
Revolutionaries in storytelling, and leader of the computer generated film industry from '95 to date, there is no other studio like Pixar.
And Steve Jobs was responsible for its creation.
He has left us and generations to come with creative and beautiful stories, through which his spirit will live on. RIP.
