  • This video is horrible where did they get this guy? Im a personal trainer, Medical Massage Therapist, and yoga instructor that is not the proper way to stretch your shin, that stretches your calf, and the rotation warm up your ankle, you want to actually do the opposite of what he did, it is best done sitting on your heals on the floor. thumbs down for sure

  • @samfer19 really?why dont you post a vid then?

  • Shin splints do have to do with lack of stretching, implicitly, but he fails to explain the reason they happen. Shin splints are a result of over-working before the legs are ready to start working harder. And the stretch he's demonstrating doesn't stretch the shins at all, but rather the exact opposite. It's simply flexing the muscle. That's a calf stretch, and a poor one at that. Never calf stretch with nothing beneath your arch and heel. Use a slant board or bent-leg pushing against a wall.

  • oh so thats what its called. Shin Split.......... awwwwww i got shin split T_T

  • @brucelee2468 I'm really sorry you have them....=[ i found out the same way

  • brb, stretching my "chins"

seriously the annotations made me lol

  • Hi my name is Peter (long depressed sigh) and im sadly with expert village.

  • does any 1 know when cross country starts?

  • @strides1000 it starts fall

  • This is not entirely wrong but is still incomplete. He isn't talking about anterior 'shin splints' but impact related splints that can cause stress fractures in the bone. VERY different conditions.

  • Do you have any clue what you are talking about? This is the worst advice ever. It's not even advice. First off, shin splints have nothing to do with stress fractures. Shin splints are commonly caused by improper footwear that doesn't absorb the shock caused from the impact of running.

  • it can also be caused by other things

  • Its also caused by tight muscles in the calf or muscle imbalance idiot!

  • I never said it wasn't, so calm the fuck down.

  • That is for stretching the muscle/ In order to strengthen the bone, you need to do toe taps. I don't know how to demonstrate this...

  • His advise was not expert, it was misinforming. Shin splints are coursed by the shock wave that goes through the foot when running. Over-training can course the shin-tendons-tissue to get inflamed and damaged. If you don't back off the training (which is an unbearable thing to have to do) and treat the shins with stretching exercise, ice treatment, anti-inflammatories, and running on soft ground : a 'bone' stress fracture can then occur. This could put you out of the game for up to 12 months...

  • i thought shin splints were caused by inflamed tendons? not stress fractures...

  • You are right, it starts with inflamed tendons. A stress fracture is when the bone fractures due to shock-wave absorption after the tendon is to weak to absorb the shock. Shin splints happen to most runners that over-train...and that's most runners...including me. Thing is, when you dial out one injury you then get another. It can take years to condition yourself - and even then you still get injured. It's all part of the game i'm afraid. If it was easy : we would all be champions...

  • Thanks for the video

  • everybod stretches differently in xc...watever makes u feel like your strechin out the best.....or u can ask your coach...sumthin i like to do b4 races 2 soothe the muscles is 2 take a hot bath

  • thanks expert

  • shin splints and stress fractures are in 2 different worlds

  • Its not always a stress fracture. My shin splints were caused by a tight calf muscle. A stretching prog did help fix the problem tho !

  • Lollervid. The common shin splints generally happen from the muscles along the shin, not stress fractures. The first stretch shown stretches the calf muscles, not the shin, and won't do anything towards shin splits. To deal with shin splints adequately, it helps a LOT to not just stretch, but also do various walking exercises. Like heal and toe walks.

  • @uberfoop also, just don't heel strike and you won't get shin splints...

  • YOU DON'T STRETCH SHINS!!!!!!!!

  • What do you do then ????????????

  • his intro is so depressing

  • @HEarl114 HAHAHA LOL

  • ...I think that everyone already knows this if they run cross country. I did that, but I still got them super bad.

  • how did you get rid of them?

  • shin splints are on your shins, i didn't know that.....

  • Rofl he seems really reluctant to be making these.

  • his intro isn't exactly filled with enthusiasm

  • Hey poser, you need to dirty ur shoes up, take them through a few mud pits, gravel beds, or even a few swamps. Be a real XC runner

  • he's a metrosexual

  • your shoes are really clean for a CC runner, lol :P
