  • The M5 has taken at least 6 years to become as good as it is today, even with the 2001 census M5, the S-type R and XJR both had the same amount of power, nicer interiors, and were equally reliable, despite what these BMW salesmen on here say..

    Now with the new XF, XJ-L and the new XJ Supersports, I think the German car market is going to have a hard time selling cars, Jag's ALWAYS come with more bang for buck, more stuff as stock, whereas with BMW, Audi etc you get NOTHING.

  • I'd have this over an M5. I don't care between REALLY fast and slightly faster and I'm not a racingdriver so I don't care about it's soft suspension.

    The Jag just appeals to me more.

  • @vika01 - it's still not the same as having a mechanical connection with the gearbox, including being able to skip over gears (if you want to go straight from fifth to second, then you can!). Sequential paddle-shift autos are nothing like as nice as manuals.

    Let me put it this way,

    If I drive a BMW, I'd feel very businessman-like but soon I will realize that I'm just a money-driven being and have missed all the joys of life just because I want to be rich.

    If I drive a Jaguar, I wouldn't feel as confident as in a BMW but I'd go home with a smile on my face knowing that I'm just like the guy next door who can simply enjoy life.

    A BMW is just a reminder that money has taken over you.

  • What I love about the BMW noobs is how they critisise the first of the real BMW M5 competition from Jag! This is Jag's first of the new AJ GEN III engined car's, it's taken BMW from 2003 (the new M5) to now to make it that good. Yes it's a great car but lets see the XFR in 6 years of tunning and tweaking, playing around... Anyone remember the original idrive? BMW fanboys get over it, the Jag desiel beats BMW D, the XKR, beats BMWs M6 and the XFR is a better luxuary car than the M5...

  • @sw1000xg Don't forget that BMW only made E39 M5 because Jaguar introduced a supercharged, 326-hp XJ-R. So, M5 owes its greatness to Jaguar :)

    Well said my man! I do like BMW and have driven all the new M cars, but there are a lot of areas they fail in. Especially build quality and shabby interior quality. In the real world Id put my money on the Jag! The amount of torque that the Jag has is monstrous. The only thing that I will say that BMW has figured out quite well is making track-able, high revving engines that really only work there.

  • @sw1000xg - I love the XF, but I have to disagree over the Jag diesel. It's a V6, with a maximum of 270bhp, and is made of iron. BMW's is an inline six (which is better, smoother), with up to 300bhp, and is made from aluminium alloy. Jaguar need to get back to the straight-six configuration, and make their diesels from aluminium (and up the power!).

  • @EccentricRichard True, these Jag fans are reffering to 530d, which has about 245hp, but 535d has twin turbo 3 litre straight six with 286hp, and the newer 4.0d currently on X5 has 306 hp, but i think in time it will be put on 5 series aswell! I just dont get it, why do you buy such an expencive car with a diesel engine??? Why would you want a premium car with an agricultural engine??? I know they are more frugal and almost can match the pace with petrol, but then buy a VW or smth...

  • @sw1000xg 1 year after you posted this comment, bmw now has the new 35d engine which is better than the jag diesel, the new m5 has been unveiled and its got north of 550 bhp and the new 6 is actually a good match for the xk (which i prefer).

    but both jag and bmw are making great cars and i gues its just choice at the end of the day.

  • US mags? Don't make me laugh! The laptimes I posted come from Autocar UK, a British mag, they have tested the Aston's around Silverstone, and the M6. The M6 was a lot faster, your attempts to save your prized cars are so weak! Have you seen the lousy power that they get from those huge V12s? The DBS is supposed to be their thoroughbred sports car, yet it doesn't even match up to any current Ferrari, in fact they unveiled their new 458 Italia which has more power from a V8 than your V12 Aston.

    It's a very outdated car. And you can't just moan at Jaguar for inventing a new car, you can moan at Audi with the new RS6 and the CTS-V.

    The fact of the matter is a BMW NEEDS a V10 to achieve 500HP. Just like a V8 needs a supercharger to hit 510HP.

    So basically, they're even. And Jaguar did that in 12 months.

  • 1- The stats are legit track times, so get over it the M6 beats the Astons with two extra seats which SHOULD be a disadvantage for it on the straight AND ON THE TRACKS so shut it with the straight line speed bullshit. 2- Im not an American you unintelligent piece of shit, so try again with your senseless assumptions. 3- I drive a 2003 360 Challenge Stradale, a 2008 BMW M6, and a 2007 Cayenne Turbo S, and sadly Britain doesn't have cars as good as those, on the streets or on the tracks.   • Man I'm just fucking with this guy, I think Astons are the most beautiful cars on the road, and I would prefer having a DBS to my Stradale, but I can't stand people that come to youtube to say things like "this car is the best simply because I said so", so laptimes and engine numbers do bust those comments to shreds in a way. Anyways, I stand by what I said about the XFR, it IS slower than the M5 on straights and circuits despite the M5 being a 5 year old model, so the XFR is 5 years too slow.

  • The AMV8 is not only an incredibly weak car in a straight line it is also useless around a track. The M6 is 0.4 seconds faster to 60, 1.1 secs faster to 100, and 2.5 secs faster to 125 than that little Aston. It also humiliated it around Hockenheim by 1.4 secs, Autozeitung test track by 3.3 secs, and Silverstone by an AMAZING 4.6 secs. So remind me again which car British car is whipping the floor with Germans? The DBS is all you guys got.

The M5 is quicker to 60 and the 1/4 mile than the XFR, according to motor trend its 0-60 time is of 4.1 and its 1/4 mile is of 12.5 (Road & Track says 4.1 and 12.4 for BOTH the M6 and M5) and the M5 is faster around BOTH Autocar's Wet and Dry Handling Courses and the Top Gear track than the SLOW FUCKING XFR. The M6 is faster than the DB9 around Nordsheife, Hockenheim, Variano, Bedford, Zolder (By a whoppin 4 seconds) and, Oulton Park. FACTS KID

  • Not only is the XFR better, it has 80 more torques, better fuel consumption, (Yes, some people have to pay for fuel and worry about it).

    It is a better looking car overall. It actually has self cancelling indicators, a better and more simple nav system, it's got a MUCH smoother ride, and it has much better brakes than the M5.

    And in some cases, it IS faster than the M5.

    So put a sock in it and return to your worthless life.

  • The XFR is sower than the M5 and the M5 s a lot older. The M6 outlaps every Aston out in the current range except for the DBS, without needing a V12 to do so. Who makes better cars?

    Jags do depreciate considerably though - consider a 2005 S-Type R (with low miles) - available now for around $15-18k and was originally sold for $60k.

  • Wrong it is slower than the M5, much slower. It's slower to 60 and to the quarter mile and also slower around the auto car wet handling course and dry handling course, and it is slower on the Top Gear track as well.

  • Jaguar never get their 0-60 times right. I've noticed on all the M5 board video's that the XFR has always kept up with the M5 and sometimes got in front, even when the M5 started earlier.

    This is generally because the XFR has a faster gearbox than the M5, I bet the M5 jolts you forward with the force of a giant lorry hitting you, but that's Germany's idea of "Comfort".

  • @SutzStaffe89 - no, Top Gear isn't biased towards British cars. Plenty of times they've savaged British cars - notably Rovers and Vauxhalls. Sure, the XF hasn't QUITE got the M5's pace on a track, but the M5 would struggle to pull out any meaningful lead - and, as TG said, the XFR is much easier to drive on public roads. Therefore, I think it's fair to say that the Jag is better overall...

M5 is the original product, others are just copies.Very good copies, make no mistake, but the original is always the best!!! xD Some brands try to get buyers by giving more power (Merc E63) but its just makeup!!!

  • what everyone needs to remember is, the fastest saloon currently is the merc BRABUS, which is a chuned da shit out of merc by brabus, the jaguar on the other hand, the one sent to bonneville, had a more free flowing exhaust, supercharcher less restrained and ecu remapped clocked 225 mph on SALT, so imagin takin that to tarmac, u'd hit 240 mph or more. Jag xfr all da way, cnt w8 until xfr-s comz out

  • the jaguar xf-r has better handling then the cts-v and its alot better looking then the audi, and as for the e63 it has 518hp not 525, which is only 8 more hp then the xf-r also its lighter then all these cars. i bet around the track the jag places 1st or 2nd, plus its just great to look at. (i didnt mention the m5 cause its not released yet) but from what i see the jag is the best all around car in its class.

It's all about driver's experience. while M5 has i drive and needs a techno geek to get going, Audi's are driven cocks. merc is not bad, but their auto 'box takes years between pressing a paddle and actually change gears. You could be right, left trailing again, but at least it's not out of the radar anymore

  • @mistabig3 - that's on the way. They thought they were limited by the gearbox, but BMW now puts 550hp through the same gearbox in the X6M, so Jag will bring out a more powerful version. The Bonneville record-breaking XFR had about 620hp...
