What are the last two comments about? - 'this is not good' - 'rubbish' - it's like being back in the North East working mens clubs with hecklers! - I think this band did enough in their career to prove that they were an incredible band - negative comments aren't welcome.
I dragged my eldest son and his mates to a gig in the Gwyn hall Neath around ten years ago. I had, Maybe I Should've Stayed in Bed? and Rhinos Winos and Lunatics books signed by all the band. Fantastic night that was, Clive John was there with his band as a support act with most of the original man line-up and they also Joined Man for a few tracks.
Micky was a second to none guitarist and an absolute diamond bloke. The world is much poorer without him.
Excellent...wish the been would show some of the in concert footage... Micky on stunning form and deke sings well .. One of the better line ups .,, still think Will was their better bass player
Typically great lyrics from Deke there. He's a published author too. His 'Rhinos, Wineos and Lunatics' 'but life on the road, got rave reviews.... just wish Watersones could hurry up with my order!
@SteffanLlwyd just ordered it today, for some strange reason the original version seems to be discontinued while here in germany a translation is easily available.
hope to see the manband (or at least whats left of it) in freudenberg in month. wish i would have experienced them with micky and deke still in the band, but it's a year ago i first read about them. i'm just 19 by now, definitely missed the golden years of psychedelia, but i love all this stuff...
@WizardofFuzz You are right, it is out of print in English. That's great that Man has a big following in Germany. A lot of great British bands have depended for their survival on German gigs. Don't worry about having missed some great bands; there will always be more to follow and each good one has something unique about it. It is a cliche, but true nevertheless that 'Rock will never die!' Maybe you will start a band yourself?
@SteffanLlwyd interestingly it was the opposite with many Krautrock bands, in Germany great bands like Can, NEU! or Amon Düül II were basically ignored because the press was focussed on British and American bands. in england many of them were much more successfull, partly because Hawkwind did a great job in promoting them. Yes indeed, I'm playing guitar, but I'm not good enough yet to start a band. Probably it was Micky Jones' fault that I own an Epiphone ES 335 with a Bigsby Vibrato xD
@WizardofFuzz The 335 is a great guitar. One of my favourite German bands was Randy Pie which is being reformed by their front man. My goodness they were a tight outfit!
I've since realised I'll have to pay £100 for Deke's book. That's how much it is going for in E-bay!
@ednacliff - when Tony Wilson was on a documentary saying why Punk rock happened there was a clip of Bob Harris introducing Sassafrass from that show at the same time!! Wilson was saying there was nothing happening in the mid 70s!!! - it might not have been as good as the early 70s but it definitely didn't have anything to do with the three bands mentioned!
@ednacliff I missed it, but saw Alcatraz a couple of times at UCW Aberystwyth in the Great Hall. The lead guitarist used to climb up his stack (two 4X12 cabs plus Head) and jump off!
This was a weird few months for Man - firstly, for some strange reason, Slow motion didn't get in the album charts!? - why? they were a big band by now - secondly (don't know if this was connected to the non-hit) they decided to do clubs and colleges again with Badfinger supporting. I saw them headline Newcastle city Hall 3 times then one day in 75 my mate called for me and said that he'd seen Man at Durham University the night before - unannounced gig! I was mad. Then next tour back to normal!
Terribly sad to hear Man founder member and guitarist Micky Jones has died. He was one of the true unsung guitar heroes of his generation. His angular style of playing, colourful tones and wah wah work emulated both Zappa and Jerry Garcia, but brought with it a unique Welsh flavour that was forever Man!
@wooger777 Me too. Pile-driver rhythm section, lyrical lead, and Deke's bitter Dylan-esque words.... that's Dylanesque as in 'Dylan Thomas', not 'Bob Dylan'! .
One of my favourite bands since 1970 when I was 14. Micky and John will be sadly missed. True musicians

Does anyone remember Man playing on OGWT with the likes of Budgie, Sassafrass and was it Alkatraz? I think they played Ain't their fight.

Great to see this again - RIP Mickey - saw you loads of times and always stood there mesmorised every time you did a solo.
I sent a text to radio 2 today saying that they should be ashamed of themselves for not playing any Man songs in the last couple of days.
Mick was on the back page of the Melody maker on an advert for months (and he was on the front page sometimes) - what a star.
