@lonewanderer267 I can understand kabulgaf's point of view. Laurie's version is kinda sweet. The Louis Armstrong version (1926) has the grit that Laurie is trying to imitate. Cab Calloway (1930s) did a couple of versions as well, with and without the voice and in each case there was that grit. Hugh Laurie, as the actor we know as Dr. House, doesn't have the same grit as those old guys - and it's not just recording quality - it's just not as poignant / fatalistic. (I'm a musician)
