what the fuck? the actual gunfight didn't take place right at the O.K. Corral but actually happened behind an empty lot of the corral as shown in "Wyatt Earp" seriously why do people think this movie is better? its inaccurate on so many levels
Great stuff! Everyone notices the 3 shots from Docs 2 barrel . But look at the window breaking routine at 5 mins. Every film has its mistakes and i think they do it deliberately to keep us you tubers on our toes :)
Anyone else love how, after Ike starts firing like a coward from inside and Wyatt yells a warning, Doc Holiday turns into pretty much a Wild West version of a machine gun with those two revolvers? Fuck he's good.

@joeybasu516 That was a really bad ass line. But you can also see the sadness in Doc's eyes when he says that, and its sad, because Doc is so loyal to Wyatt.
This is probably the best visual adaptation of OK Corral, but it is still incorrect as it was NOT a gunfight, but mass murder. Only the Earps and Doc Holiday fired shots, the Clantons didn't fire any...
@lossie101 Billy Clanton's gun was fired until it was dry and Frank McLaury shot Doc Holliday. Virgil and Morgan were both wounded in the fracas. If it was "mass murder" they wouldn't have let the unarmed Ike Clanton escape (though having Ike firing from C.S. Fly's studio is pure fabrication).
So 5:05 Is Holliday using two different types of pistols? Obviously one of them is nickel plated. You see him shooting with that. However is this the second one?
I wonder why they (Earps) didn't position a sniper on the roof across the way and get two more fellows to come up on a flanking position and disarm the cowboys using SWAT moves.
I wonder why they (Earps) didn't position a sniper on the roof across the way and get two more fellows to come up on a flanking postion and disarm the cowboys using SWAT moves.
It corny in the end with that romantic stuff, but that was shootout was stellar. A now classic movie, one of the best! Val just mastered that role, all of them are great, even the whats fer dinner dude!
@Maximxj750 I don't know if it was intentional, but to me, my view is that it shows their self-constraint, their complete split second control and decision-making and even composure under such stress. Done for effect but very cool.
the cast was really good however i hated doc holiday, val really does bring the arrogant, self centered asshole personality thsat holiday was, dying of turbercelosis was gods way of killing the jerk, and wyatt, oh wyatt a truly arrogant lucky son of a bitch, the mightier than though atitude i could forgive, but never getting shot while his brothers and friends were gunned down. the earps always acted tough, but always played the vicitms going up agaisnt men who were not as skilled as them.
Bit of backstory here. This was the underdog picture. Kevin Costner's movie was supposed to be the grand epic. Rumor has it he tried to get actors to not sign onto this film. Yet the power of Kurt Russell got a lot of bang for his buck. I prefer both movies really.
@dthevideofan657289 I also like both moveis. I think Wyatt Earp was more of a life tale than anthing. Some people know about what he did and who he was back east but everyone knows about the gunfight. Plus Dennis Quaid as Doc was probably a bit more historically accurate, but Val Kilmer just did a phenominal job. LOL. Everyone was good. Whoever cast the roles in the movie should get an Oscar.
actually some people beleive though the clantons were stirring up trouble the gunfight was brought on by the earps and holiday who shot first (or at the same time as the clantons) but the earps were far better shots and only were minorly wounded while the others were butchered. the earps including wyatt may have gone there with the intention to finish off the threat to themsleves, the directors of wyatt earp movies always paints wyatt in a good light like he was reluctant to kill,
@kozmon0t oh yay!! you learned a curse word. arent you intelligent? @sn54 sam elliot was a good virgil and val was an excellent doc. the others could have done a little better but you know...better than the other portrayals by far
@blackhoodmankiller its actually one to scare the horse and one to kill one of the guys. the fatal shot to the cowboy was shown from two different angles. just a slight continuity error is all.
@blackhoodmankiller Yeah I was watching this the other day trying to count everyone's shots (cause I'm a big accuracy nerd) and it definitely looks like Doc fires three shots from a double barrel shotgun. Still an awesome fight scene though, and it happens so fast you don't pay much attention to how many shots they're firing unless you watch it over and over like us fans do.
@blackhoodmankiller They replayed when he shot the second time at a different camera angle. If you pay attention, you'll notice they play multiple parts over and over again at different camera angles.
@blackhoodmankiller actually i think that the scene after doc shoots twice shows him shooting the guy again so it is really two shots. Just look at 4:24 and see the guy falling down the same way probably was a recut of two different takes of the scenes.
yeah well as exciting as this scene is and as good as the movie is overall, they really didn't do their homework as to how the fight happened. Ike never got his hands ona gun and Wyatt was not the reluctant participant Russell portrayed him to be. Costener's Wyatt Earp is the truest and historically accurate depiction of this gunfight. and his protrayal of W. Earp is more spot on. He wanted the fight to happen . And Doc was wounded in the fight. Too bad the movie was great until this scene
@bush80 Actually, Doc took a glancing round to his hip, and was thought to be seriously wounded at first. Some witnesses of the gunfight heard him scream that he'd been shot. This is seen (but not heard) in "Wyatt Earp" with Dennis Quaid as Doc.
Best part of this scene is before the shooting @ 1:11 just after Wyatt tells Holliday it's not his problem and he doesn't have to get involved. That is true friendship.
@TrentSki80 "Wyatt Earp" is not a remake of "Tombstone." There's an excellent explanation online as to why both were made. Somewhere between the two is the truth. Neither film really followed the history of the backstory, the gunfight, or the Vendetta Ride, but "Wyatt Earp" attempted to cover more of what we know. If the real story is ever filmed, probably only the serious followers of American western history (I would be in that category) will go see it. Everyone else will call it "crap."
yes i quite like russells acting when he said i won't let you arrest us, it was a classic wyatt earp, only follwing his law, i be if beehan had tried to press the matter wyatt would have probably shot him "I don't think i'll let you live today beehan" it is just waht wyatt earp truly was
the earps were always in favour, they were better shots, more skilled, i mean Wyatt was a famous law man, and doc holiday was always a fast killer, the clantons were mostly back shooters and brawlers not seasoned gunmen, the earps would have succeeded either way. they only suffered minor wounds it wasn't until later that they were whacked from the clantons back shooting them.
I saw a gun fight once on Independence Avenue in KCMO - 1993? Lots of shooting lots of people running. Idiots could not hit an elephant at close range with a scatter gun. Guess that was for the best.
That kid runnin' up on them like that must have been the director's son or somethin'. There was no reason for it to stay in the final cut of the movie. Still a great scene.
@Paul: Who knows exactly what happened? Even eye witnesses didn't see everything. Based on the facts, this movie version sticks to many facts based on eye witness testimony. They couldn't resist Hollywood embellishment though.
The section of the gunfight where Ike Clanton fires at the Earps from behind through the window of Fly's was fictional, along with the subsequent spraying of bullets from twin Doc Holliday revolvers. Also, the combatants were in closed quarters, not spaced out in this version. Aside from these discrepancies, the rest of the gunfight is meticulously filmed based on historical fact, and eyewitness accounts.
@elrond70 true and nearly there to the real thing, as the other movies i have seen like gunfight at the ok corral 1957 film and the film Doc 1971 are appauling versions of this gunfight
One of the best Westerns over the last 25 years. Kilmer is wonderful, and every other peformance is at least good; excellent casting, with Russell, Lang, Boothe, Paxton, Eliot, Delany, Priestly, Heston --
@stevevandien dont forget about the guys in the clanton gang, john corbet, thomas haden church, the guy from terminator and billy bob thorton as a fat ass in the begining of the movie
@louieguitarist Michael Biehn was in Terminator. He also was in Aliens. He's gotten around as an actor, which was why I was surprised to see him in this as Billy Claiborne. I think he played Billy, right?
a small group of people are saying this version isnt that great, thumbs up if you think its the best!

I just notice that it starts on 6-4 in favor of the Cowboys but 2 run off for Cowboys, 1 unarmed turning it into a 4 on 3 Wyatt Earp favor
mattsmt20 1 year ago
@mattsmt20
the earps were always in favour, they were better shots, more skilled, i mean Wyatt was a famous law man, and doc holiday was always a fast killer, the clantons were mostly back shooters and brawlers not seasoned gunmen, the earps would have succeeded either way. they only suffered minor wounds it wasn't until later that they were whacked from the clantons back shooting them.

I saw a gun fight once on Independence Avenue in KCMO - 1993? Lots of shooting lots of people running. Idiots could not hit an elephant at close range with a scatter gun. Guess that was for the best.

Fuck reloading. Reloading is for pussies with no mustaches.

I Think Doc shoots out of his double barreled shotgun three times
or it must be a different angle replayed of the kill

That kid runnin' up on them like that must have been the director's son or somethin'. There was no reason for it to stay in the final cut of the movie. Still a great scene.

@bush80 I hated that too but then.....it messed withthe tension and damn KID!

@Paul: Who knows exactly what happened? Even eye witnesses didn't see everything. Based on the facts, this movie version sticks to many facts based on eye witness testimony. They couldn't resist Hollywood embellishment though.

Doc doesn't have a care in the world at 2:35
I guess he knew he was dying anyways, so if he did get show it wouldn't matter
nyr1994 1 year ago
@nyr1994 I think Doc actually wanted to get shot as opposed to dying of TB. Can't say i blame him on that one though.

The section of the gunfight where Ike Clanton fires at the Earps from behind through the window of Fly's was fictional, along with the subsequent spraying of bullets from twin Doc Holliday revolvers. Also, the combatants were in closed quarters, not spaced out in this version. Aside from these discrepancies, the rest of the gunfight is meticulously filmed based on historical fact, and eyewitness accounts.
elrond70 1 year ago
@elrond70 true and nearly there to the real thing, as the other movies i have seen like gunfight at the ok corral 1957 film and the film Doc 1971 are appauling versions of this gunfight

One of the best Westerns over the last 25 years. Kilmer is wonderful, and every other peformance is at least good; excellent casting, with Russell, Lang, Boothe, Paxton, Eliot, Delany, Priestly, Heston --

@louieguitarist Michael Biehn was in Terminator. He also was in Aliens. He's gotten around as an actor, which was why I was surprised to see him in this as Billy Claiborne. I think he played Billy, right?

a dozen shots going off doesn't scare the horse but one shotgun shot into the air does..
James87beast 1 year ago
@James87beast Well known fact horses don't like shotguns, like elephants and mice. muhahaha
coryboy345 1 year ago
@James87beast According to most accounts, the horse was actually grazed by a bullet and that's what made it bolt.
