@black4pienus It's complicated. Basically, sound moves outward from a source in waves. If something moves faster than these waves, and especially if it's at the same speed as the waves, then the waves being emitted from the source overlap and amplify in the direction the source is moving. Essentially, the sound from a second ago is traveling alongside all the sound produced during that second, and it collectively gets louder and creates a huge wave of sound known as a sonic boom. Questions?

Technically it isnt a sonic boom, BUT, if you fire a bullet around the cats head (as long as the bullet is moving at >1100fps) the bullet will make a loud sonic boom. CRACK! like having a fire cracker next to your ear..

@illisakedy1 Sonic booms only happen when something moves faster than the speed of sound, thats why you hear thunder, kuz it moves faster than sound. If you've ever gone to an air show or are in the Air Force you'll some times see Fighter Jets that are capable of super sonic fly by and you hear a loud crack kinda like lightening strike.

Living on the west coast of florida (just below Tampa) I have heard many sonic booms from the shuttle landing over the years. One in particular was a few years ago. It sounds like someone dropping a car on your roof. On top of that I have 6 sliding glass doors on my "florida room" and they shook like someone hit them with a hammer. They flexed and bowed with a horrible sound. Yes, something is lost via video through the camera.
