One of the most perfect records ever made. The reasoning behind its protracted run at the top of the charts should be obvious. It has all of the elements of a superb single. Well written, well executed, well produced and with no small amount of personality and drama. Love it!!!
To all you pro wrestling fans out there (like myself): This was the #1 song in the USA when Josip Nikolai Peruzovic came into the world (October 14, 1947). Peruzovic would become known as Bepo Mongol and really become famous as Nicolai Volkoff.
BILLBOARD ranked the bestselling records of 1947 this way: 1- Near You. Francis Craig 2- Peg O' My Heart. The Harmonicats 3- Heartaches. Ted Weems 4- Linda. Ray Noble Orch. Buddy Clark, vocal. Smoke, Smoke, Smoke. Tex Williams 5- I Wish I Didn't Love You So. Vaughan Monroe 6- Peg O' My Heart. Three Suns 7- Anniversary Song. Al Jolson. 8- Near You. Larry Greene Orch. 9- That's My Desire. Frankie Laine 10 Ballerina. Vaughan Monroe. I, too, wondered about the 2 records tied at #4.
I really like Francis Craig, Near You, We're, (my husband, Bill and I) are in our 80's and appreciate the music of the 40's and 50's. We just celebrated our 66th wedding anniversary so this type of music is OUR kind of music. To be honest we like nearly all kinds. It seems there is more romance in the earlier music. Thank you for putting this one on for us to enjoy.
@msroadrunner Hey ms R !!! You stopped by my channel lately? Just added this to my 1947 playlist. started a list for Sy Oliver, too -he was the arranger that put the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra on the map & he was the composer of Opus One! My congrats to you & your husband! chuck
Essa é a musica que tocava quando minha mãe nasceu, bendito seja Francis Craig!!!
