  • Ruedist... Its healthy to redline these motors and its not because of a cold start probly tps but cant say for sure

  • When I have a problem with my car I find it always helps to turn my stereo way way up.

  • Lol my sis had the same problem

  • no socks in -25 deg, respect.

  • TPS

  • Hey I'm having almost the same problem other than the fact that when I step on the gaz it rev n there is no engine light on I changed my throttle body n the problem still persist how did u fix that ?

  • From the look of it you don't take care of it in the 1st place, sooooo maybe juuuuuust maybe you fucked it up(:

  • yea deff tps I've had that problem on my civic before

  • Spierdolone auto poprostu

  • i hear sublime on the radio. good choice hahaha

  • dude, dont you see a red light?!

turn your damn car off lol

  • thats a crusty lookin rx-8 lolll

  • it's the ECU taking over the gas to maintain the heat for the engine. CMIIW.

  • I bet you need gas.

  • 46000 miles and it does that... ouch.

  • @jsiszero

I'm meant km lol thats even worse

  • damn! Why are you using this in the winter!!!!!! It's an summer sport car! SPORT CAR. Not an snowing car...

  • can any1 tell me abt rx8 im buying it which years rx8 should b better n what problems can it have in which n all that i need every thng

  • @umair9114 rx8club.com

  • car sounds like a vacuum

  • You simply disconnect the terminals akamulyatora and after 20 seconds, plug back ... I reset and everything will be ok ... this glitch

  • problem: sublime got turned off

  • see when you have a nice car like a mazda rx 8 you take care of it. that means washing it chANGING ITS OIL PUTING IT IN A garage maybe?? lol

  • WWWTTFF .!

  • You should not run rotaries in the snow. Always first warm up the engine.

  • RX-8's arte constanty broken, even when they are working

  • @MasterTenku Agreed. Fun cars though.

  • wtf? if you live in a place where the temperature is -30...u buy some god damn suv...not a sport car .-.

  • the problem is that the car is crying out for a driver with a better taste of music

  • maybe it wanted a car wash

  • I SEE THE ENGINE MANAGMENT LIGHT ITS ON TRY ENGINE CODE READER THAT TELL YOU WHAT IS A PROBLEM

  • BADFISH!!!! :D

  • wie viele kilometer hast du?

  • hahaahahha electronic trothle.... hahahhhaaa

    electronics

  • @driftking9293 99% of todays car are this way, unfortunately

  • @proudbugowner rx8 is a great car, speciali i like rx7 mk2 3rotor sound beautiful and no probles,, wankel engines are very cool whitout electronics!!!!!!

  • @driftking9293 Agreeeed!!!! :-D :-D :-D

  • whats wrong is the black tape covering your check engine light fell off (i know it's fixed i'm just being an ass)

  • My RX8 has done that a few times in the cold, if I push the clutch pedal it stops. After a couple of minutes it's fine.

  • my old rx7 did the same thing its not a problem

  • look in ur engine where the throttle is and there might be a little 1 inch small tube sticking out but tape over the hole my friends almost goes to where it stalls

  • hm your temp guage is a C, mine always starts around the center and stays there :\ anyone know if thats strange, seemed regular to me like any other car i've had.

  • -25 and you have no socks??

  • @kovaliov69 hahahahaha:p

  • @kovaliov69 loool

  • @kovaliov69 dude he's canadian :D there is -25 in summer

i was like damn my mom is vacum cleaning again but... glad to hear the problem is gone :) RX are really nice cars

  • Yeah! Sublime!

  • turn the car off, you're going to kill your car !!!

  • Glad you got it figured out. Pay anything to get it fixed? That looked like a scary situation actually.

  • the car is like if u dont rev me i'm gonna rev myself lol

  • Frozen TPS.... reset the ecu with a scanner and you are all done :-P

  • damn mines never done that before, it wouldn't crank at all, i love these cars but they are a pain, i seriously think imma trade mine this dec when its paid off, imma miss it bad i got way more looks than any other car i've seen, and no im not tradin for a 350z its a 2seater and you gotta spend 40k to get a decent one, the 8 is almost as quick for half the price, plus you'll get more ass in the 8 thats why the z only got room for 1 passenger sorry z! your bed is cold tonight

  • @RaCeRx2285 350z's remind me of how jackass's used to be back in the day when the 1993 5.0 mustang was the "cool kid" car. My cousin has one and I test drove it and it rides rough as hell, so rough that it's an uncomfortable ride. I lowered my car 1.5" with upgraded shocks and springs, it stiffened my RX8 up a lot, but it still has a much more comfortable ride even with aftermarket parts. Also, even my cousin says the RX8 interior is much nicer than hers.

  • It is doing that to heat theengine lots of cars do this when they are cold like BMW's

  • @kills456

I know that BMW's do this but they also dont normally go past 1,500 rpms, and they also dont normally throw a cel light. Oh yeah and the throttle works when a beemer is warming up. Really this is nothing like a BMW at all come to think of it.

  • @vandervoort88 ...no.

  • @kills456 ...no. Just...no.

  • @kills456 Hi, well, I don't know what Mazda programmed into RX-8's motor management. But there is a principle how to handle cold engines: You should never turn up an engine over 3,000 rpm when it's not on it's operating temperature, yet. Especially not when it's cold outside. That means: Stay in low RPM as long as possible. Generally shift up at 2,000-2,200 RPM and stay calm in accelerating.

  • @kills456 PS: I forgot to mention that I don't think this is a forced behaviour of this engine. To turn up the engine's RPM in neutral is only a waste of gas, engine durability and bad for our nature.

    Greets, Ruedist :-)

  • Engine needs to warm up?

  • unplug the battery for half of hour an then start up again

  • That's bullshit lol... you'd think that they'd test for that at MAZDA

  • wat ended up being the problem?

  • @DIENAMICProductions

The problem was a cold throttle position sensor. Cleared the code and it worked perfect ever since

  • @vandervoort88 omg..i could have told you that...too bad i was too late :p

  • @vandervoort88 watched it and was going to sugest the tps sensor had a similar problem mine was at 2.4v when it should be set at .5v

  • yo mad compression problem check both chambers... should be 120 psi

  • when was the last time u changed the MAF ?

if u put the gear on D will the car go with 3.000 rpm ?? that dangerous ?

  • pcm needs to be flashed

  • There is not problem. However, engines behave at low temperatures that some car so when they it this problem warm up already pass away.

  • @ Mrdamian6266

No, there is a problem, especially when you have 0% Throttle and the car hiccups at 3k rpm.

  • its a known problem for me too... but i have a regular mazda 3.... Throttle position sensor is either disconnected.. or connected and just went bad.. thats exactly what happens.. car just stays at around 3k rpm and shakes the whole car.. along with a CEL for TP sensor

  • Ratava252

But it can and you have reason but there is in poland often so that cars behave so. If there is erroneous suggestion apologize it for misleading ; /

  • Mine DID THE SAME SOUND AND EVERYTHING when i started the engine when it was like -30 C. What do you think is the problem? Cold??

  • I just let mine run for about 5 minutes shut it off let it sit for about 10 minutes and it fired right up. threw a cel light but i just cleared it and havent had a problem since. was about -25 when this video was taken

  • @vandervoort88 did you try to switch off engine and startup again??

  • The engine was too cold. You can´t switch off the engine when it is cold ! ! !

  • i dont know how you dont see the temp gague up on the C mark. I never turned it off til it warmed up a bit.

for the record though you can turn it off when it's cold you just run the risk of flooding it

  • more like a MAF problem

    get the engine cold pulled.

  • low on coolant?

  • nope throttle position sensor

  • your problem is that its a mazda rx8,,,,and i think shes telling you to wash her if you listen closely

  • haha i know i could wash it every hour up here in the winter and it would look worse in about 2 minutes.

  • Throttle position sensor......No biggie. RX-8's are "Drive by wire", instead of a cable like on older cars, wich is why the gas pedal doesn't respond. easy fix.

  • @fretwizard420 I think they should go back to cable, our XR8 Falcon is drive by wire and the throttle servo died before 25 000 Kms.

  • lol, looks just like my rx8, except mine has a different looking steering wheel.

  • Hey! I've got the same problem as you, but in my 2007 Honda CRV. The engine was throttle up and down like yours car, and it also didn't give any response to my foot.

And the very very bad thing was i bought the car (brand new) just one week and i must brought it to Honda and fixed for 3 weeks.

The problem was occurred from the part name throttle body (if I'm not wrong), not the ECU. because Honda have change my ECU with the new one, but no change. when change the throttle body, it;s work

  • k man u cant have rhe same problem cause this is not a reg engine its a rotary so u cant have the same problem or the same method to fix it

  • what have you done man

  • deve avere dei gravi problemi alla centralina...insomma a tutto l'apparato elettrico.

  • to co jeeeee???? neveriiiiim

  • considering nothing happened when he hit the gas i find it hard to foresee him actually driving to the dealership.....just my 2 cents...and FORMER rx8 owner ill be the first to say, great car, just piss ass slow.

  • all depends on your definition of slow. in a straight line eh sure its not the fastest thing but it does have a consistent power curve and its neutral balanced from the factory.

  • First off bud read the comments before you post shit. I've never taken the car to the dealer for anything other than recalls, therefore done everything to the car myself. If you read back a little you'll see that i've posted several times that it was a throttle position sensor. Read the code with my reader, cleared it and have never had a problem since. I hate old people that come on here and have nothing better to than try to make fun of kids. I'm 23 and keep your comments to yourself next time

  • k well ur wrong an u blew hi sapxes seals and that is why it sounds like its gonna die

  • not that simple man a rotary aint so simple as to just look for a code or flashing light

  • This had nothing to do with the fact that it's a rotary...it was messed up because of the throttle-by-wire. A reset of the sensor fixed his problem..

  • I'm no expert, but this has nothing to do with the cold weather, cause japan has much of the same condition. As i can recall, Mazda have been one of the most durable cars, but then again, it might bee wrong because time and technology constantly changes...

  • drive by wire are gone bad

  • Definitely could be a bad drive by wire, I agree. There is no throttle cable/linkage in an RX8. Accelerator pedal communicates throttle position via 2 sensors (1 is a redundant backup).

So sensor could be bad. Or both.

  • haha rx-7s have a different idle problem the car turns on normally but the rpm is wrong

  • lol rotary+cold weather= ur not goin anywhere or at least not very fast

  • this happened to me. pop your hood and check your mass air flow sensor on your intake, if it is loose in the littlest bit this will happen, i tightened mine down, problem solved, the continual cranking and running of your car like this will cause it to flood, and well that aint good, if that isnt the problem call your dealership and tell them to sent a specialist

  • my 8 did the same thing twise and now it doesnt even start and i did check the hose and everything seems normal. any help from you guys will be apreciated.

  • The only thing i can tell you to do it if you turn the key to the acc position and your CEL stays on get yourself an OBD2 reader and clear the code. should start then. If its not the engine light then i got no clue what the problem would be.

  • Do you know COLD ENGINE? is normal

  • This problem was not normal i said in previous posts that it was a throttle position sensor. Also forget ever taking a rotary to mazda in nova scotia, i've had it in for a new problem im having now twice and they still cant figure out whats wrong with it.

  • mmmmm for me, this is what a car do when the engine is very very cold.. the high rpm are only becouse is a 1.3 rotatory engine, in a 'normal' engine it stay @ 1,5k-2k rpm.. You have the same problem when the engine have a good temperature? (sorry for bad english)

  • r u fucking stupid did u watch the entire clip?

his flooring it and its still hopping 2000-3000 rpms. yes thats totally normal right? cuz flooring it just goes up to 3k rpms rite? someones stupid

  • ryino sssssh pls.. stfu :)

    go play with barbie now..

  • DO YOU KNOW THE PLACE CALLED GARAGE??

  • To answer a couple of questions I have an OBD2 reader so i have no need to take it to the dealer anymore for CEL's. I also said way back that the problem was a throttle position sensor, $600 for the sensor. Also for yerboogieman...it's a 13b renesis rotary. 1.3L twin rotor

  • may have gone bad again but, looks like a hose connected to your intake somewhere is off or has a bad hole in it. if you have a hose that came off or has a hole in it in the intake tract, it will cause the idle to go up but the computer will try to lower it to bring it back to an accepted idle until it has a cel. there could be other possibilities but, that would be a quick cheap fix if you can find it. its is somewhere in the intake, could be a hose or a hole. hard to say really.

  • take better care of it sheesh

  • Have you tried doing a reset? There are two different types you might try if you haven't fixed it yet... Even if you have you might get better performance by doing the reset anyways...

  • i forgot to mention the car in limp mode (safe) mode thats one reason why the check engine light is on you probly have to take it to the dealer so they can scan the code to see what it is .... good luck man i hope its nothing big

  • its a idle problem check for leaks around the intake manifold i know little to nothing on rotary engines but i had a simular problem on my civic

  • i agree. sounds like a hose is loose and the computer is trying to keep the idle down. Probably find a hose off somewhere and once it is put back on, run like a top.

  • What kind of Rotary?

  • I had the same problem it cost about 600

  • I drove my 8 all winter and it couldn't have been a better winter companion... put some blizzaks on it, clearbra, washed it as often as the temperature got around 50 degrees and she was good to go. RX-8s are very livable in the winter.

  • I heard the opposite, i heard rotary engines act poorly in winter.

  • you heard wrong. Never a problem with my 8 even at 10 degrees F

  • Only problem I ever had with the cold was when it was really cold (about 5°F) out, which caused the engine to idle at about 4k for about a minute. After it warmed up, I had no problems.

  • i have never had my car do anything out of the ordinary since i bought it new. so far so good. has cranked every time and never flooded.

  • I dont really know why people are always hating on rx-8's i put this problem on here just to let people know what it is if they happen to have the same problem, but i would never ever sell my car. The only downfall with the rx-8's that i know everyone has is hard on gas and not enough power. So buy the GReddy turbo kit and get a better job is going to be my solution.

  • 1st this is the only car i have to drive im only 22 and i bought this car new so i cant really afford a second car. i also let my car warm up til the needle comes just above the bottom 2 lines. i dont know what temp that it, but i heard from mazda that anymore than that and your just going to hurt the engine (plugs and converter mostly). I really try to treat this car good like oil changes every 1,500-2,000kms in the winter.

  • How would letting the engine warm more up hurt it.

  • man ive talked to lots of ppl with mild to major engine problems. i ask them almost everytime, " do u allow your car to warm up in the morning, even in the summer?" most ppl say no. need i say more ..... but im not saying this guy did this. just making a point as a mechanic and my experience

  • I dont even know why ppl drive cars like these in the winter. Whats wrong with you, how the hell do u enjoy a car like that in the winter? If you want to make burn out on the snow or ice, well any car can do that.

  • You are a fucking retard. Unless he has multiple cars to himself, he has to drive this one during winter. Im sure plenty of peoples with big offroad jeeps that do well in snow drive them during the summer too...fuckin retard. Sorry everyone doesn't have multiple vehicles.

  • sorry but if you live in a region with regular snowy off-season and all you have is an rx8 to drive wtf do you think is going to happen?

  • Most of the rx-8's or any newer cars are been bought as daily drivers/commuter cars. And being a daily driver means driving everyday. Mostpeople only lock up their cars during the winter if they are something special.,. And if your saying you cant enjoy a car like that in the winter your wrong rear wheel drive cars in the winter are funn. :)

  • I have an 04 with 162000km on it now. haven't had any big problems. in the last 50000 i've replaced the plugs, air filter, gas cap, 2 sets of tires, and oil&filter every 5000. I drive the crap out of it and I love it to death. if it happened to die I would just go buy another one.

  • rx8 are pieces of crap, i went thru 2 transmissions and 1 engine within a year, all factory problems... i learn my lesson with mazda!!!

  • i always had a mazda and i never had any problem up to now at 275, 000 km

  • wow..that sounds reallly really bad. Did you drive it rough? was it pre owned? My sister had a nissan that had been wired by someone who sucked at it and she had problems that never stopped.

  • haha

  • in Greece 500 Euros for a o2 sensor + this, I just sold mine to some knuckelhead,

  • RX8 have problem with the factory cat converter, its there for one reason emissions, mazda speed says put highflow cat on it will take care of your problem.

  • Long story short if any one is judging an rx-8 from this video don't, go drive one and fall in love with it like i did just know that you have to do a lot more work to keep it running good. Front engine, rear wheel drive, 50/50 weight distribution, and cheap.

  • I always let my car warm up in the winter for about 10 minutes in the mornings and never have any problems. I did plug up one cat so far and a mechanic from mazda said it was because i wasn't driving it hard enough, the cat wasn't getting hot enough to burn the shit out of it.

  • so if you weren't driving it hard enough then how are you suposed to drive it? and so far every one i talk to says that as long as you take care of the car(which i do) that the car just gets better better on fuel, power, and all that good stuff its like its backwards and perfect ive had mine for a few days and i love it!!

  • Its not a bad winter car, rear wheel drive makes it pretty fun. I agree anyone bashing the rx-8 either has got a lemon or has never driven one. I love this car to death even though it is a little more work to maintain. I didn't put this video on here for people to hate on my car i just wanted to let people know what to expect if they have the same problem.

  • what type of spark plugs you using thats the problem plus its a rotor so u need to warm up and cool down but don't warm up for to long cos u can foul the plugs and flood the engine just about 1 min or 2 and u need to drive them hard rotors love to be driven hard so don't be afraid of giving it a good good hit

  • My Sunfire is having a similar problem right now.

Lucky for me, I plan on selling it or trading it in to get an RX-8 later this month.

Though, living in Michigan, it probably isn't the best of winter cars....

  • I dont rate rx8's as much as i do and i own a 6speed i do look after it but still had too change me cat converter and now the lengine light still stays on but the prob now is the heat sensor!! its been recalled once and there a second now!! arghhh!! these make a great noise when you put ya foot down n look great but apart from that.... these fuckas are a nightmare n wud be glady happy too sell myn if they didnt loose so much value so quick!! lol (basicly keep away)

  • There's a lot of people on here saying the rx-8 is a bad car... I challenge all of you to go test drive a 6spd Rx-8 and say it again. When you buy an Rx-8, you're accepting the fact that you have a lot more maintenence than you're average car. But that's only a downfall for people that don't like to maintain their vehicles.

It's not a drag car, so don't judge it by it's 1/4 mile time, instead, take it to the twists and curves.

90% of the time,a Check engine light means loose gas cap...

  • Agreed.

  • i had an 04 and it was a complete pile. it drove great had a good bit of pep and handeled amazingly but the reliability was crap. i had 2 motors fail, 2 cats fail, the ignition coils replaced, both head and tailights leaked, and the tranny had to be rebuilt. now i'm sure mine was an exeption but i won't buy another. the money is better spent on a MS3 IMHO

  • thats probably the gas pedal cable stuck

  • Ok dude. Here's my theory. My car has similar problems after I disconnected the battery long enough for the computer to reset. The computer has to have the car running for a while to get the fuel mixture and things of the sort right. If the weather was that cold, there's a good possibility that your battery's cca(cold cranking amps) is low enough that at that temp, the computer will reset over night causing that to happen. It takes about 10 minutes for the cpu to find the correct settings.

  • I posted a while back that it was a throttle position sensor. Car runs fine in the winter and i just bought a block heater for it and haven't had a problem since. Best money you can spend and the car only has to run for about 10 mins in -30 we have been having lately.

Long story short like someone said don't drive your 8 in the winter i hit so much shit with the bottom of the car. If your going to buy one make sure you can afford a cheap winter beater on top of the 8.

  • control unit or a cable from it??

    what was it?

  • RX8 with a problem? No way!

They definitely don't burn a shitload of oil either.

Rx8's are great cars, I swear.

  • thats what you think.... :-)

  • rx8 are great cars just not recommended to be driven in snow or cold weather not good at all..

  • damn..... now i wont buy an rx8....

  • y there great cars

  • i've seen lots of vids lately about rx8 having problems... including this one... plus my friend has an rx8 that always gettin engine problems....

  • mine hasnt had a problem yet and ive had it for mabe a year and a half also its 3 years old and has never been to the shop

  • I've never had a single problem with mine either and it's an 04. Maybe people just don't know how to take care of them, it isn't like every other car.

  • That orange engine light means "it is broke take it to Mazda" thats water in the electrics. I know because I have the same problem but my 2004 got stuck at around 6000 rpm

  • that is why you dont drive 8s in the snow...or even have them lol

  • Ich denk mal da is das Erkennungsmodul vom Gaswinkelsensor defekt.......

  • Looks like nova scotia plates to me... I drove my rx8 in the winter last year and no problems at all... although I kept mine a lot cleaner then yours! haha.

You can't go wrong with scanguage II... Best $200 you'll ever spend. It cost that much just to get your code scanned at the dealership.

  • yea! go winnipeg.. lol

but yea.. you didnt have a problem driveing that thing in the winter? just got studded ice tires?

  • u live in winnipeg dont u i see the license plate, I live in peg city too but im storing my rx8 for the winter I dont wanna take any chance, I just got my rx8 2 motnhs ago have u experianced any other issues with the car, and do u know any good rotary mechanics in winnipeg?
