The message of these commercials is better, I guess, than the ones today. Companies don't bother trying to convince you of their quality so much as of their trendiness.
@TheTaergy Sometimes you REALLY have to ignore date stamps. The promos found elsewhere on the tape made dating this pretty easy. There's also a Safeway ad in Vol. 106 (From the same tape) that says "Offer ends 2/17/87".
Lol at Megan the crazy cat lady in the Kal Kan commercial. Does anyone else find it disgusting that her cat food is just thrown in the pantry with her cooking oils and spices? I realize it's canned, but give it its own little area AWAY from the human food.
Sweet mother, those PacBell commercials are so amazing. I love them. It's such a shame I'll probably never be able to see all of them.
I guess this explains why the girl friend wasn't shown at the end of the last one: the series is about the two guys, she was just the subject of that one commercial.
Ok Foghorn Leghorn telling me to go to a place that kills and feeds chickens by the millions to humans is kinda creepy. And how does he know it tastes so good?
@Libraloco73 I can't help but think of that old Saturday Night Live sketch where the cartoon chicken spokesman narrated his own death, cooking, and consumption.
@blugreen123 Seemed to me the 80s was when a lot of national food and agriculture boards started pitching particular types of food to boost the particular industry. "The power of cheese", "Beef---it's what's for dinner", "Real" milk and dairy ads, "Pork---the other white meat", and, of course, the above butter ad.
How come there are Quaker Rice Cakes....but not "Shinto Rice Cakes", "Mormon Rice Cakes" or even "Neo-Celtic Pagan Rice Cakes".

I love how they play a Sousa march during a goddamned Kikkoman commercial.

Announcing on national TV that your baby granddaughter might just be the President one day sure puts a lot of pressure on that kid.
"Fame, Fortune & Romance" looks like the most boring interview show ever. They couldn't even be bothered to come up with a decent title!
I've had my share of rice cakes. Trust me, they're not worth singing about.
Looks like some ad exec had just watched Private Benjamin.
"You get sexy clothes! And you get sexy clothes! Everyone gets sexy clothes!"

Are you sure these commercials are from '87? The foghorn leghorn commercial says "1988"

SWEET! I remember that Sine-Off ad! Incredible doesn't begin to describe it. SIGNOFF!
Looks like Hardy Rawls (the Pete & Pete "Dad" who appeared in tons of 80sCommercialVault's ad breaks) leads off in the Kikkoman ad.
Foghorn Leghorn for KFC and John Cleese shilling coffee is just EPIC.
That Rice Cake falsetto sure wasn't.

"Sexy clothes on the next Oprah Winfrey Show" $10 bucks says ALL of them had bulky shoulder pads!

I could be wrong but I'd swear that's Kevin Connolly as the older brother in the Gorton's commercial.

And Kevin Kline, Monty Python, is in the Master Blend coffee commercial.
CelesteK 2 years ago
Ugh, that's not Kevin Kline...it's John Cleese...as noted in the description.
Also, Monty Python was the name of a comedy troupe, and not a name applied to anybody in it.

Backstory on the Pac Bell ad... After Garland faked his ankle injury, he moved to Chicago, where he fell in with the reamins of the Capone gang.
He was the most succesful truck hijacker of his time, even earning the nickname "Sticky Fingers Garland".
Eventually he was taken down by a FBI hijacking task force and sentenced to 35 years hard labor.
Luckily for him, his long time pal brought him a carton of smokes each week to pay off the cell block bully. Garland was forever grateful.

imagine advertising butter, not a particular brand, just...butter
3:40 pure 80s
5:45, they had to be sure to have a pseduo Asian looking person to prove Kikkoman's "authenticity"
"sexy clothes on the next Oprah Winfrey show" does that mean she would be wearing sexy clothes? i'm frightened, yet intrigued
the Gorton's guy is kinda cute

Triaminic commercial had Jerry O'Connell in it. Also, it is probably not a good idea to dance around slippery soap like that, you could fall!

No cat would eat that much food in the KalCan commercial (2:15). Then they replace it with a clean plate, as if the cat finished it.
Thanks for the video!
