S&M is just a review of Metallica's songs but with the San Francisco Symphonic. Death Magnetic is a great album, really its my favorite, just lisen to its songs.

They changed after black album and went all bluesy but the thing is it seems so hard for them to get back on the metal track of the 83-89 era. Dude, St. Anger is absolutely terrible. Not one song on that album has a single solo in it. That is the worst album they put out so far. Death Magnetic is better then St. Anger, but not better then their older albums.
@nopride15 why do solos make music good? if it is meaningful u dont need one. hendrix has songs without solos, does that make him suck as an artist? no. solos dont do anything really, they add contrast, but so does changes in arrangements and different riffs inside the song.
Death Magnetic is the best album overall (imo) but it doesnt have a stand out classic song. it needs a master of puppets or a fade to black or one but the other albums had only a few really good songs the rest average but death magnetic were all good songs. but thats only my opinion.

@AlcohollicAmetal to be honest with you, I think in a few years, either this or the Unforgiven III will be 'classic'. Maybe this moreso, as UN3 is just continuing the unforgiven story, but i definitely think that this will be a modern day classic.

This is a demo of what eventually became "The Day That Never Comes" and "Casper" wasn't altered much at all. It was mostly changed in the way he sang some of the accents which even still was minuscule.
The vocals and the tone are so much more sincere on this version and I thought the original was great.
James' voice is a lot more emotional and I like that he left off the accents such as "watin' for the one-a, the day that never comes-a!". The final version sounds fucking amazing and sits in their all-time list BUT not having that in this version sounds a bit better.

i thought this album was there best to date. I actually think that it didnt get as much attention for the fact that metallica put it out. So many people wont even look at it because they didnt like ST Anger, Load, Reload and think Metallica is going down hill.
Yeah man, I mean, as their line up for bassists changes the music does. they're coming back to their roots, but they're still melodic. I think this is the best they've sounded since Kill 'Em All and Puppets. It's like, the melody of Justice and the black album, but mixed in with the shredding of Kill 'Em All and slow solos of Puppets. Not to mention the drums are coming back into a more full effect like Lightning.

I listened to Death Magnetic once, and I thought it was pretty good, but once I gave it another listen to I thought it was a beautiful master piece.

Death Magnetic is the best album overall (imo) but it doesnt have a stand out classic song. it needs a master of puppets or a fade to black or one but the other albums had only a few really good songs the rest average but death magnetic were all good songs. but thats only my opinion.

@AlcohollicAmetal to be honest with you, I think in a few years, either this or the Unforgiven III will be 'classic'. Maybe this moreso, as UN3 is just continuing the unforgiven story, but i definitely think that this will be a modern day classic.

This is a demo of what eventually became "The Day That Never Comes" and "Casper" wasn't altered much at all. It was mostly changed in the way he sang some of the accents which even still was minuscule.

The vocals and the tone are so much more sincere on this version and I thought the original was great.
James' voice is a lot more emotional and I like that he left off the accents such as "watin' for the one-a, the day that never comes-a!". The final version sounds fucking amazing and sits in their all-time list BUT not having that in this version sounds a bit better.

i thought this album was there best to date. I actually think that it didnt get as much attention for the fact that metallica put it out. So many people wont even look at it because they didnt like ST Anger, Load, Reload and think Metallica is going down hill.

Yeah man, I mean, as their line up for bassists changes the music does. they're coming back to their roots, but they're still melodic. I think this is the best they've sounded since Kill 'Em All and Puppets. It's like, the melody of Justice and the black album, but mixed in with the shredding of Kill 'Em All and slow solos of Puppets. Not to mention the drums are coming back into a more full effect like Lightning.

It's true that all bands change thru time, which is a good thing if it's for the sake of their artistic expression, if you allow me. It's ok if the band is planning to change styles AND TO STAY THAT WAY!! But I'm sure Lars and James have been going after sales (and money) since "Black Album" draging down the good name of Metallica.

Yup. If they stayed nu-metal then we'd say "that was their choice, i don't like it so I'll go look for something else". But no, first they went commercial and later tried to come back to thrash.
It's like a bad relationship: we keep pictures of the good times (Kill'em All to Black Album), things went down the toilet (Load to St. Anger), but the b*tch tries to convince us to stay with her (Death Magnetic). Napster episode is the proof she was in it just for our car or the gifts.

I've never said Load & ReLoad suck (Anger does), it's just that after being used to a very different sound it's hard to believe it's the same band.
I've been going thru a process from feeling sorry for Dave being kicked out ('til I learned it's because of his addictions), taking sides on their war (I went for Megadeth cuz I disliked Lars attitudes), to understand that Metallica has the right to play whatever they want.
I think Fan boys both sides are the ones that suck.
