Exactly. Without recording capabilities, this Apple TV is rather useless. I would suggest looking at the Archos TV+, which does feature recording options.

Apple TV is meant for those people who have Music, Movies, Video's, Pictures and Etc. on their computer, and this is just a way to watch all that on your computer. So other words it's like having an iPod plugged in-to your TV, I have one only because I rather watch the movies and TV shows I buy on Itunes on a TV rather than on my mac, however the price is pretty steep, so it's a hit or miss with some people.

Umm, why pay $250 dollars and just download them and burn them on a dvd. Then play them on your DVD player which you can get for about say $20 bucks at wal-mart.

because you can't burn them to dvd. and the quality of the video on the apple tv is hd. They now sell for $220 which is a hell of alot cheaper than a $350 Blu-Ray player

When we rip DVDs, each one is about 1.5 GB, so we have a TB hard drive with more that 300 movies (it's only a little more than half full) that streams to the appleTV - making more than 300 movies available from a remote control. :)

That statement has been sufficiently backed up. This bandwith-hogging, overheating paperweight won't be replacing any component of my entertainment center anytime soon. The lack of recording capabilities on this $250+ boondoggle is simply an exercise in ridiculousness. Apple FAILED in this arena!

I play itunes music videos during parties by plugging my laptop into my HDtv, but their formatting is so ridiculously stupid that some videos get choppy lines in them (even on the PC).

You know, if you already have a mac, lemme tell ya' don't buy an Apple TV anymore. If you already have a mac book, just hook it up to your TV and it works as well as the Apple TV. In a way Apple TV is just a small box that stores your dowloaded stuff, so in a way you'll save more if you just hook up your PC or mac to your TV. At least that's waht I do:)

You put podcasts, downloaded movies, downloaded tv shows, etc on your computer, and through wireless networking it goes from your computer to the apple tv, and the apple tv displays it onto the tv screen.

Xbox does this way better even letting you Stream live TV from the PC etc.

but If you have an Itunes collection this is the only way to go due to the DRM.

Don't get me wrong I love Itunes and my Ipod but I use 5 xbox360's and one media Center PC in my house.
