Not even close to being true! Cavendish is only fast for 150m , Cipollini was fast for nearly 300m !

You can't compare them as the sprints nowadays are different then a couple of years ago.

I think for race mind, explosiveness, talent and raw pace that cavendish is better sprinter especially with they way he can train hop like robbie mcewen used to which he displayed in the tour after renshaw was kicked out and the other big reason is that he can finish a 3 week tour and win on the final day

@rsoreo savoldelli..what's the red jersey?? in italy he won the pink jersey..it's like the yelow one for the french.. savoldelli was one of the very few that never got caught using drugs, Cipollini downhill was a normal rider, he was a very strong sprinter but he always needed his team to build up the pace for him..cavendish instead..just goes.

Some say he won because of his lead out train.

Well, I remember a certain stage in the Tour de France, where he was alone, quite behind at 300m to go, fighting with somebody, then made his way through all the others to win.

Hands down the best sprinter of his era.

I have to agree his best victory was Gent-Wevelgem, totally not his style. That and the milano-sanremo in '02...However nothing beats the sight of the Saeco Cannondale train, it changed sprinting for good and is my enduring memory of 90's cycling.
