Hah I was called a fagot when a group of what media has entitles the "Jock" society when they heard that I was listening to a song called Day of the Baphomets. They heard the opening Bass solo and called me a faggot. Yep what the hell is this world coming to, real music is left behind to gather dust in a closet, while Nicholback and Buck Cherry rule the radio. But beside that, this song is fucking amazing, Omar is a genius. Amazing song writer/composer/guitarist.
That's fucking depressing. But I guess that's how stupid people react; When they hear somethings that's new for them and is so good that it scares them, they react with simple, dumb implications of homosexuality.
But the good music will always get the attention it deserves, eventually!
I was listening to this aloud in the school corridor, upon wich the girls in my class loudly proclaims: "God, that sucks! Sooo annoying!" What happened to taste in music??
Doesn't sound like those narrow minded people would have anything intellegent to say about anything. Wouldn't worry about them. Play it louder until they come up with an intellegent reason as to why they find the music annoying. But that wouldnt happen. By that stage they would be enjoying it and discussing philosophy ect
he definetely has Santanas style down , but santana does not compare to how insane of a musician Omar is! He is probably my favorite guitarist. He knows how to play, He knows gear, and He knows what works!
This song was a funky, latin inspired, proggy jazz groove. I dont think Hendrix or Santana could do that. No disrespect to both of them!
omar is twenty times better than jimi hendrix and ten times better than jimmy page as far as techinal skill is concerned and equal as far as passion its so funny when people try to compare skill level to jimi hendrix, he was good for his time because what he was doing was new. it had to do with soul and creativity because uts not really that skilled technically.,, people who say these things are people who are trying to pretend that they are hip to whats good and whats not they dont know guitar
there are so many guitarists out there now who are better than hendrix/page/clapton or any of the old guitar gods...needless to say...ppl really need to start judging guitarists by how they evolve their own styles of music rather than how technical they are...in that sense omar is one of the best out there
i agree i was saying that for the sake of the people who throw jimi and jimmy out there just because everybody else does i was kind of in venting mood.lol
please demonstrate how omar is 20 times "better" than hendrix or page, i mean that is just an outrageous claim. While you're at it you might as well show me how page is twice as good as hendrix. as far as omar is concerned, i agree, hes fantastic but i doubt he could replicate hendrix
its not about that nobody is better than nobody they all have something that you could like more or less, but i believe omar is not better but has a bigger head than anyone out there, im not saying hes the best but he musically can do EVERYTHING, from salsa to fukin psicodelic hes a god..
@eliceus The Mars Volta is classified as Funk Metal among many other genres. The Mars Volta is the same kind of metal as later King Crimson, Led Zeppelin, and Jimi Hendrix is considered metal. They have that sort of sound. They are not some sort of costume band trying to write scary music on purpose, but they do have some metal aspects in their music. The Bedlam In Goliath was definetly a heavy album and probably got them the funk metal label.
@magicbag6790 There are jazz/metal bands out there. Metal can be just as complex and technical as jazz and vice versa. You just don't see the two mix as often. And, when you do its called jazz fusion.
This is more funk with jazz ideas if anything. I was talking about The Mars Volta, not Omar's solo projects like this.
@BigTymerPimp sorry to burst your bubble man, but Jazz Fusion is def. not metal and jazz mixed, the popular definition of Jazz Fusion is " a musical fusion from a mixture of elements of jazz such as its focus on improvisation with the rhythms and grooves of funk and R&B, with the beats and amplified instruments of rock" I think the term for what your saying would be something around the lines of Jazz Metal

@shitfeast Jazz metal is still jazz fusion. Sure, there may be tons of bands that stand out more as metal or rock and even jazz, but it is still fusion. Animals As Leaders, Planet X, and so on are still considered jazz fusion. You may not agree, but jazz metal is technically not a genre by itself. It is just called jazz fusion all together. After all, fusion refers to two genres mixing as one. So, why call it Jazz metal or Jazz rock? It's a fusion of jazz and rock or metal. So, Jazz fusion.
@BigTymerPimp Omar´s music, that´s all pall!there is no jazz fuckin´fusion here!!!it´s only music of the soul and of a crazy (or not so crazy after all) mind! cheers!
@camilocaribe Let these "Jazz fusion with what ever" music to people who tend to think that knows about every thing and the only thing they do is make critics about every thing, sory but this is how I think, enjoy the music and let your body and soul just moes with!!!hahah
@camilocaribe Cool. However, Omar fuses a lot of genres into his playing. One of them being jazz-fusion. Sure, there is tons of soul here. It's art. No question. I was not saying he had no soul. Unless you're trying to imply that jazz fusion is all technical show-off music with no soul. In my opinion that is extremely not true.. Either way keep on supporting Omar. I can't wait for the new album. Cheers to you as well.
Goddamn I love Omar. He's so versatile. He has straight up noise records that are comparable to Eno and Zorn stuff. Very underrated in the experimental noise scene that I'm so fond of.
he is a heckuva writer, but he said once that he tried with many effects b/c he use to hate the guitar so much, until i believe was Amputechture that he started to like it i lil bit more,
the only way u can compare omar with jimmy(hendrix) is that both play left handed
I also frothcum when I hear this album. Direct from cd: Original art, layout and design: Sonny Kay. Does anyone else think that Apocalypse`s and the frothcoming Despair`s album covers intensely resemble Weather Report`s Heavy Weather. I mean...come on.

Hey again, I have just discovered that Omar is due to release an album titled 'Minor Cuts And Scrapes In The Bushes Ahead' and I would very much appreciate anything you know about it, I'm in such a good mood, two new Omar albums coming to me soon!!!
I just wish that he would release The Pentega album even though I know that was a record he made himself and his friends but it would probably hit 1 on the charts.
Well if I were to presume that you are not bullshitting (which may be incredibly gullible of me but nonetheless worth it), why do you say that it would hit #1 in the charts when Omar's works have so far been so different to the, and please excuse my opiniated statement, 'shit' that does reach that critical acclaim ?
Ok I am not bullshiting you and I say that because it is more main stream and "easier" for the average non musician to understand so basically there is alot of radio friendly material on the album. The song Pentega itself is one of the most amazing songs I have hearf by them, it reminds me alot like Amputechture but better imo, the main riff is pretty heavy and the song is very catchy so people won't have to let it grow on them. Of course this is just my opinion maybe people wont like the cd
Omar might release it in late janurary to early feb even though originally he didn't want to but from what he told me it is more a matter of money so he can basically buy some more studio equipment.
I am very interested and although I shall remain highly sceptical of your trustworthiness (by my nature), I feel the need to ask you this:
Have you heard any of 'Absence Makes The Heart Grow Fungus' and if so, what is it like?
Omar said at the beginning of the year that he wanted to release 8 solo albums, so far he has released 'Apocalypse', 'Calibration', the collaboration with JMW and 'Absence' will make 4, is this due to record company issues or is there much more to come, if you know?
I never heard the finished version of that solo album but I heard him working on some of the tracks like Death Of Mala Moon and it was a bit..trippy for me to be completely honest.
No this has nothing to do with record label issues there is much more to come but he just wants to make sure he is completely satasfied with the material and he will be releasing them basically giving the fans crumbs instead of the whole cake at one time.
An alternative version of Salvo might be on the Absence cd I havent heard the finish product but I have an extremely strong feeling an alternative Salvo is on the cd.
Thanks so much, so how exactly do you know Omar, and do you get to hear lots of his unreleased works ?
Just seeing Omar walking down the other side of the street would be incredible for me, just as seeing him live was, but knowing him personally would just be something else.
Omar's brother Marcel was who I met first this was like late 2003.I didnt know who they were at the time, I found out later on when he invited me to the studio and they were working on a cd or something, the first thing Omar said I knew you had a son you were hiding lol and everyone basically laughed.
I am a musician and Omar is basically my main inspiration and in a weird way kinda like a mentor to me.
I met Marcel at a drum shop some where on 48th and broad way in manhatan, he was messing around with various percussions and drum sets. He is a really good drummer btw.
Apart from being a little strange that great back line and sax has a real sound to it, a bit confused towards the end, definitly some thing to snap your fingers to, Mmmm made me pause for though, thats good !
does anyone else have a hella hard time finding the omar-rodriguez quintet cds and vinyls...ive got manual dexterity volume 2 si dice bisonte no bison on cd and the self title on vinyl...but there are like 8 others and i cant find anywhere or anyone with them...its terrible i love this stuff so much.
tell me about it; my local record store stocked one copy of Manual Dextrity,on sale for like £15, i immediately legged it to the cash point, got back and it was gone, goddamit, and the girl behind the counter just looked so blankly at me when i asked about it i just left!
yeah his stuff is hard to come by. whats even harder to get are the limited edition mars volta records. got two of them but they were expensive but worth it.
Is Juan playing bass here? It's a lot more funky than a lot of the stuff Omar lets him play on the Volta albums, I wish he'd funk it the hell up now that they've got pridgen 'cause god knows he can play just about anything.
Who cares what you call it, either way my ears are having an orgasm

No this has nothing to do with record label issues there is much more to come but he just wants to make sure he is completely satasfied with the material and he will be releasing them basically giving the fans crumbs instead of the whole cake at one time.

An alternative version of Salvo might be on the Absence cd I havent heard the finish product but I have an extremely strong feeling an alternative Salvo is on the cd.

Thanks so much, so how exactly do you know Omar, and do you get to hear lots of his unreleased works ?
Just seeing Omar walking down the other side of the street would be incredible for me, just as seeing him live was, but knowing him personally would just be something else.

no problem
Omar's brother Marcel was who I met first this was like late 2003.I didnt know who they were at the time, I found out later on when he invited me to the studio and they were working on a cd or something, the first thing Omar said I knew you had a son you were hiding lol and everyone basically laughed.
I am a musician and Omar is basically my main inspiration and in a weird way kinda like a mentor to me.

I met Marcel at a drum shop some where on 48th and broad way in manhatan, he was messing around with various percussions and drum sets. He is a really good drummer btw.

Apart from being a little strange that great back line and sax has a real sound to it, a bit confused towards the end, definitly some thing to snap your fingers to, Mmmm made me pause for though, thats good !

tell me about it; my local record store stocked one copy of Manual Dextrity,on sale for like £15, i immediately legged it to the cash point, got back and it was gone, goddamit, and the girl behind the counter just looked so blankly at me when i asked about it i just left!

yeah his stuff is hard to come by. whats even harder to get are the limited edition mars volta records. got two of them but they were expensive but worth it.

Is Juan playing bass here? It's a lot more funky than a lot of the stuff Omar lets him play on the Volta albums, I wish he'd funk it the hell up now that they've got pridgen 'cause god knows he can play just about anything.
