  • It's funny how you can't find a single song by Omar on youtube without people trying to compare him with other artists.

    Just an observation.

  • entitled*

  • Hah I was called a fagot when a group of what media has entitles the "Jock" society when they heard that I was listening to a song called Day of the Baphomets. They heard the opening Bass solo and called me a faggot. Yep what the hell is this world coming to, real music is left behind to gather dust in a closet, while Nicholback and Buck Cherry rule the radio. But beside that, this song is fucking amazing, Omar is a genius. Amazing song writer/composer/guitarist.

Would love to meet him and Ced.

  • That's fucking depressing. But I guess that's how stupid people react; When they hear somethings that's new for them and is so good that it scares them, they react with simple, dumb implications of homosexuality.

But the good music will always get the attention it deserves, eventually!

  • Oh come now we all know that the Jocks of this world are all closet faggots. Nice post

  • the day of the baphomets,, ain´t that the mars volta?

geez.. it's really nice how Omar and cedric can start a side project and still rock, oh man i just love 'em(in a manly way)

  • @magikman93 the jocks? you mean the kids who shower together in one big room and smack each others asses with wet towels?

  • @magikman93

    so true

  • @magikman93 This song is amazing, and so is tmv's Day of the Baphomets!

  • Goddamnit, what is this world coming to?!

I was listening to this aloud in the school corridor, upon wich the girls in my class loudly proclaims: "God, that sucks! Sooo annoying!" What happened to taste in music??

  • the girls in your class are really really thick

  • Tell me about it.. ^^

  • Play some Lil Wayne and they'll drop their panties for you.. terrible society..

  • Depressing indeed...

  • @ToolOtaku hey it's kinda mean, i love Omar and Lil Wayne too !

  • Doesn't sound like those narrow minded people would have anything intellegent to say about anything. Wouldn't worry about them. Play it louder until they come up with an intellegent reason as to why they find the music annoying. But that wouldnt happen. By that stage they would be enjoying it and discussing philosophy ect

  • cause he got a lot of those latin flare in his style. I like it a lot.

  • The Tone On The Bass Breaks My Balls As Usual. VIVA MEXICO!

  • one of the best prog rock composers out there today :)

  • Couldnt be more more true!

  • This is my fav of the solo albums, next to megaritual

  • Stop comparing him to others.

  • all u guys say he is the next jimi hendrix, which i guess i agree, but he is so versatile with his styles, he reminds me more of Santana.

  • he definetely has Santanas style down , but santana does not compare to how insane of a musician Omar is! He is probably my favorite guitarist. He knows how to play, He knows gear, and He knows what works!

This song was a funky, latin inspired, proggy jazz groove. I dont think Hendrix or Santana could do that. No disrespect to both of them!

  • well, hendrix was dead before he reached the age that omar is, so you cant really say what he could've done.

  • thats true

  • This is am amazing, it's just a nice tune to listen to, no strong vocals or really screeching guitars, (not that I don't like that sometimes)

  • omar is twenty times better than jimi hendrix and ten times better than jimmy page as far as techinal skill is concerned and equal as far as passion its so funny when people try to compare skill level to jimi hendrix, he was good for his time because what he was doing was new. it had to do with soul and creativity because uts not really that skilled technically.,, people who say these things are people who are trying to pretend that they are hip to whats good and whats not they dont know guitar

  • there are so many guitarists out there now who are better than hendrix/page/clapton or any of the old guitar gods...needless to say...ppl really need to start judging guitarists by how they evolve their own styles of music rather than how technical they are...in that sense omar is one of the best out there

  • i agree i was saying that for the sake of the people who throw jimi and jimmy out there just because everybody else does i was kind of in venting mood.lol

  • estás en lo cierto hermano!!! apoyo eso.

  • If the music is good listening, stop comparing. Plus these are different times, guitar playing has evolved.

  • please demonstrate how omar is 20 times "better" than hendrix or page, i mean that is just an outrageous claim. While you're at it you might as well show me how page is twice as good as hendrix. as far as omar is concerned, i agree, hes fantastic but i doubt he could replicate hendrix

  • its not about that nobody is better than nobody they all have something that you could like more or less, but i believe omar is not better but has a bigger head than anyone out there, im not saying hes the best but he musically can do EVERYTHING, from salsa to fukin psicodelic hes a god..

  • can he do metal? i'd love to see him do metal

  • not the metal you probably like but, ouroboros, you can say, has a metal thing in there..

  • @mrgreen05 who said mars volta was metal

  • @eliceus The Mars Volta is classified as Funk Metal among many other genres. The Mars Volta is the same kind of metal as later King Crimson, Led Zeppelin, and Jimi Hendrix is considered metal. They have that sort of sound. They are not some sort of costume band trying to write scary music on purpose, but they do have some metal aspects in their music. The Bedlam In Goliath was definetly a heavy album and probably got them the funk metal label.

  • @BigTymerPimp not metal. but heavy/hard rock. metal is like less technical. this is more jazzy than metal.

  • @magicbag6790 There are jazz/metal bands out there. Metal can be just as complex and technical as jazz and vice versa. You just don't see the two mix as often. And, when you do its called jazz fusion.

This is more funk with jazz ideas if anything. I was talking about The Mars Volta, not Omar's solo projects like this.

  • Comment removed

  • @BigTymerPimp sorry to burst your bubble man, but Jazz Fusion is def. not metal and jazz mixed, the popular definition of Jazz Fusion is " a musical fusion from a mixture of elements of jazz such as its focus on improvisation with the rhythms and grooves of funk and R&B, with the beats and amplified instruments of rock" I think the term for what your saying would be something around the lines of Jazz Metal

  • @BigTymerPimp Jazz Metal would be bands like Animals as Leaders, Exivious, Messugah. etc. it does tend to sometimes get clumped with the fusion genre, but it its a stand out style, and you can def. tell the similarities between jazz metal bands.

  • @shitfeast Jazz metal is still jazz fusion. Sure, there may be tons of bands that stand out more as metal or rock and even jazz, but it is still fusion. Animals As Leaders, Planet X, and so on are still considered jazz fusion. You may not agree, but jazz metal is technically not a genre by itself. It is just called jazz fusion all together. After all, fusion refers to two genres mixing as one. So, why call it Jazz metal or Jazz rock? It's a fusion of jazz and rock or metal. So, Jazz fusion.

  • @BigTymerPimp Omar´s music, that´s all pall!there is no jazz fuckin´fusion here!!!it´s only music of the soul and of a crazy (or not so crazy after all) mind! cheers!

  • @camilocaribe Cool. However, Omar fuses a lot of genres into his playing. One of them being jazz-fusion. Sure, there is tons of soul here. It's art. No question. I was not saying he had no soul. Unless you're trying to imply that jazz fusion is all technical show-off music with no soul. In my opinion that is extremely not true.. Either way keep on supporting Omar. I can't wait for the new album. Cheers to you as well.

  • you people SERIOUSLY need real lives... get some help

  • intense song. i think my favorite song is "Spookrijden Op Het Fietspad" though

  • Goddamn I love Omar. He's so versatile. He has straight up noise records that are comparable to Eno and Zorn stuff. Very underrated in the experimental noise scene that I'm so fond of.

  • he's good, but his solos can not be compared to THE jimi. Sorry fellas,

  • true, no one can be compared to jimi in terms of solos or jimmy Page, but Omar is one hell or a writer.

  • he is a heckuva writer, but he said once that he tried with many effects b/c he use to hate the guitar so much, until i believe was Amputechture that he started to like it i lil bit more,

the only way u can compare omar with jimmy(hendrix) is that both play left handed

    *grammar check*

  • Comparing both artists is just plain disrespectful!

Omar and Jimi are different guitarists from different eras with different messages, different influences, different everything.

    Stop hearing and start listening,

  • i remember in a interview when omar was asked if thinks of himself as jimmy hendrix and he laughed his ass offf

  • yeah, and he said "hell no"

  • what a fucking awesome opening song for such an awesome album

    trippy fucking omar

    I LOVE HIM AHHH

  • omar definitely is the new hendrix. youve might heard this already but its true. he is.

  • very different

  • i own this on vinyl.. its pretty killer.

  • only omar could put a bass clarinet in a song and have it this funky/nasty.

  • hahaha so true

  • He is a beast.

  • HELL YEAH HE'S A BEAST!!!!

i wish he was MY beast ;D

    haha

  • I also frothcum when I hear this album. Direct from cd: Original art, layout and design: Sonny Kay. Does anyone else think that Apocalypse`s and the frothcoming Despair`s album covers intensely resemble Weather Report`s Heavy Weather. I mean...come on.

  • I didn't see it until you pointed it out!

  • Ah this song kicks ass.

  • great song

  • Amazing sound!! =D

  • Great !!!!

  • Oh so jazzy.

  • 20,000 view get

  • who created the cover of that album?

    it's beautiful.

  • storm thorgurson i believe...i might be wrong...but he's been doing a lot of volta oriented artwork...

  • better than bedlam in goliath at least

  • better than mars volta

  • yeah

  • wtf?

My ass wont stop moving...whats going on here?!

  • You are being raped by the song. Enjoy it.

  • i loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee omarrrr>!!

  • Oh, fuck me!

  • I love this song....

  • old money was just released...his new solo album...this man is so sick

  • Sexy! Bass tone man...Juan, yes?

  • i love love love juan :D

  • can anyone suggest which of his albums are the best so i don't have to buy like all 20 of his solo albums

  • What?! Buy them all anyway.

There aren't even twenty released to the public...

  • all of them except you probably wouldn't like the omar and jeremy unless you do drugs or have done drugs in a past life.

  • Dude just buy them all. They will change your life. REST ASSURED.

  • Se Dice Bisonte, No Bufalo

...is BADASS.. 'Please Heat This Eventually' is currently my favourite song.. I might put it up on youtube for the fans.

  • I've uploaded it now. Have a listen.

  • Thanks man!

  • dude i never heard this one before it was bad ass i love it WOO!

  • Gorgeous piece! Omar is one of the most powerful, creative artists on the planet. Or the most creative one. I sincerely admire him and his music. As well as The Mars Volta overall.

  • the bass guitar in this song is amazeing

  • Wow, I envy you so much, Omar is such a huge inspiration to me too, it must be amazing to get to be friends with your idol.

Do you record music aswell ? I would love to hear it if you did.

  • Yeah I record music too, I am currently working on a cd entitled Dead Girls Never Cry

and it should be finished in a week or two. I will upload audio clips to youtube once I am done.

  • Fantastic, I shall look forward to it :)

  • Hey again, I have just discovered that Omar is due to release an album titled 'Minor Cuts And Scrapes In The Bushes Ahead' and I would very much appreciate anything you know about it, I'm in such a good mood, two new Omar albums coming to me soon!!!

  • I never get tired of hearing this live,

I just wish that he would release The Pentega album even though I know that was a record he made himself and his friends but it would probably hit 1 on the charts.

  • The Pentega album ?

  • It's an unreleased album Omar made and it is still on his shelf he doesn't want to release it because it was intended for friends only.

  • Oh right, I knew about all of his unreleased albums I just didn't know anyone was aware of their titles, how come you do ?

  • lets just say I know first hand

  • Well if I were to presume that you are not bullshitting (which may be incredibly gullible of me but nonetheless worth it), why do you say that it would hit #1 in the charts when Omar's works have so far been so different to the, and please excuse my opiniated statement, 'shit' that does reach that critical acclaim ?

  • Ok I am not bullshiting you and I say that because it is more main stream and "easier" for the average non musician to understand so basically there is alot of radio friendly material on the album. The song Pentega itself is one of the most amazing songs I have hearf by them, it reminds me alot like Amputechture but better imo, the main riff is pretty heavy and the song is very catchy so people won't have to let it grow on them. Of course this is just my opinion maybe people wont like the cd

  • Omar might release it in late janurary to early feb even though originally he didn't want to but from what he told me it is more a matter of money so he can basically buy some more studio equipment.

  • I am very interested and although I shall remain highly sceptical of your trustworthiness (by my nature), I feel the need to ask you this:

Have you heard any of 'Absence Makes The Heart Grow Fungus' and if so, what is it like?

Omar said at the beginning of the year that he wanted to release 8 solo albums, so far he has released 'Apocalypse', 'Calibration', the collaboration with JMW and 'Absence' will make 4, is this due to record company issues or is there much more to come, if you know?

  • I never heard the finished version of that solo album but I heard him working on some of the tracks like Death Of Mala Moon and it was a bit..trippy for me to be completely honest.

No this has nothing to do with record label issues there is much more to come but he just wants to make sure he is completely satasfied with the material and he will be releasing them basically giving the fans crumbs instead of the whole cake at one time.

  • An alternative version of Salvo might be on the Absence cd I havent heard the finish product but I have an extremely strong feeling an alternative Salvo is on the cd.

  • Thanks so much, so how exactly do you know Omar, and do you get to hear lots of his unreleased works ?

Just seeing Omar walking down the other side of the street would be incredible for me, just as seeing him live was, but knowing him personally would just be something else.

  • no problem

Omar's brother Marcel was who I met first this was like late 2003.I didnt know who they were at the time, I found out later on when he invited me to the studio and they were working on a cd or something, the first thing Omar said I knew you had a son you were hiding lol and everyone basically laughed.

I am a musician and Omar is basically my main inspiration and in a weird way kinda like a mentor to me.

  • I met Marcel at a drum shop some where on 48th and broad way in manhatan, he was messing around with various percussions and drum sets. He is a really good drummer btw.

  • u didnt know who they were until then but omar was your main inspiration? how does that work?

  • long life to omar and themarsvoltians of the world

  • FROTHCOMING LOL

  • i luv the small sol0 near the end~...sounds sooo nice~

  • Ah man, I reckon even a jelly fish would get a horn if it listened to that!

  • HAHA nice one! Totally Agree!

  • I chuckled =) nice one!

  • this is fela kuti groove!!

  • i love omar and the volta :)

  • starsky & hutch

  • This Song Sounds Perfect!!! Omar is a Music GENIUS!!! I wish i was a GOD

  • omar is questionlessly the most talented musician i know of that is still in practice, no doubt to that.

  • amen bro.

  • That was delicious.

  • Lo he escuchado 3 veces... Y pienso hacerlo otras 3 XD (5/5)

  • duuuuuuuuuuuuh, duh du-duh, duh du-duh, duh-du-duh, du-duh, du-du-du-duh.

  • wow! that was fucking unbelievable!! that sounded so amazing!!!

  • Apart from being a little strange that great back line and sax has a real sound to it, a bit confused towards the end, definitly some thing to snap your fingers to, Mmmm made me pause for though, thats good !

  • Awesome song!

  • is adrien doing the sax?

  • hell fucking ya

  • such a fun jam!

  • does anyone else have a hella hard time finding the omar-rodriguez quintet cds and vinyls...ive got manual dexterity volume 2 si dice bisonte no bison on cd and the self title on vinyl...but there are like 8 others and i cant find anywhere or anyone with them...its terrible i love this stuff so much.

  • tell me about it; my local record store stocked one copy of Manual Dextrity,on sale for like £15, i immediately legged it to the cash point, got back and it was gone, goddamit, and the girl behind the counter just looked so blankly at me when i asked about it i just left!

  • yeah his stuff is hard to come by. whats even harder to get are the limited edition mars volta records. got two of them but they were expensive but worth it.

  • where can i download this?

  • Just use some crafty searching on Google.. I'll give you a hint, I found it on megaupload.

  • this song is AMAZING!!

  • Is Juan playing bass here? It's a lot more funky than a lot of the stuff Omar lets him play on the Volta albums, I wish he'd funk it the hell up now that they've got pridgen 'cause god knows he can play just about anything.

  • yes he is

  • This is a great song. Simple and good.

  • sweet cover art

  • kind of sounds like a slow buckethead solo.

  • there is going to be a CD version but its only coming out later than the vinyl

  • great song, anybody knows if it's only a vinyl recording? is there going to be a cd?
