  • I LOVE this scene and this movie, don't get me wrong. It's one of my favorites. But does anybody else feel slightly uncomfortable with their whole age difference or what not?

  • good book , good movie. thank you for sharing . Love

  • BELLO :) ...GRANDI ATTORI :)

  • one of the best book and movie EVER!!!!!

  • Thanks for posting this, the end reminds me of how things are hard these days & I just got engaged. <3 So simply awesome.

  • I read the book FYI and I still think that Jo and Laurie belong 2gether!! BTW best movie EVER!!!!

  • only those who never read the book think she she should be with laurie, and I agree. Movie Jo belongs with Movie Laurie.

In the book Amy and Laurie make sense and Jo belongs with Fedrick

  • god, i luv this movie! XD best stocking stuffer EVER!

  • This is the best version ever ! One of the best movies too.

  • Really lovely but oh the emotion in anticipation and then joy was sooo glorious in the book.

  • great movie, cuz it's just a great story about family and ambition and love :)

Any story well told, is worth watching/reading.

  • what i love is that everyone is bitiching about laurie/amy but we seem to like the jo/friedrich couple :D GO JO!

  • i absolutely adore this movie<3

  • "Jo...such a little name...for such a person." .....D'AWWWWWWWW LASDKFAWIEHRNLAKDSFHOIH PROFESSOR FRIEDRICH D'AWWLKSADNFOAIWENRKSAHDFLKAHSF

  • @righteousgroove i tought the same.. but i didn't know how to expres myself ajauaj

  • john brooke (so old) should have never been with meg(so young)

  • I just love her tone and expression when she says "I'm not married." You can just tell how eager she is for him!

  • I tear up at that last line every single time!

  • i get the idea of those two but in the book jo and laurie sounded like they should be together but obvs not but i reallly dont think laurie and amy should be together amy's to whiny and selfish for someone like laurie but he gives her enough attention i guess so thay might balance it out...still

  • @anthonyjuan

Thank you for saying that. :D

  • what a lovely ending!

  • I am about to audition for the part of amy in that play!!!!!

  • I adore the part when shes like "NO! NO! That's my sister!..." and he looks so damn relieved. :)

  • Jo was lucky to find herself a Friedrich. Byrne was fabulous in this role. Thought I liked Shartner in the earlier film, Byrne is simply far more authentic and beliveable as Friedrich.

  • BECOME A FAN OF THIS MOVIE AND OTHER PERIOD DRAMAS ON FACEBOOK!! :)

  • Beautiful!

  • my favorite ending of a movie of all times... <3

  • I absolutely love this movie! I've never really liked this scene because I always want Jo and Laurie to be together, but the older I get the more I appreciate it.

  • Love this ending:)Winona stole my heart with this movie..

  • I LOVE this movie.

  • mmm, gabriel byrne... lucky, lucky jo march. hahaha

  • I thinked it should have been jo and laurie

  • I thinke jo should been with laurie

  • @Frickis

Yes, but now that I'm older and watch it again, I realize that Laurie is an immature jerk. She's much better with Freidrick.

  • Aaaah I love this scene <3 but did anyone else notice he says he has a train to catch but then after that he says that his ship is leaving from Boston tomorrow morning? Or maybe I just heard it wrong....

  • @szeretetesbeke yeah he needs the train to get to boston where the ship is leaving ;-)

  • @Lupina83 but isnt he going to the west?? hahahaha but oh well its such a cute scene regardless:D

  • come and meet my family "Kaboom!(rains)" ...errr... I guess not.

  • *blub* I love this scene so much. <3 It's the scene that finally warmed me up to the idea of Jo and Friedrich, because in the book I always wanted her to be with Laurie. But the film makes it clearer to me that Jo was right when she said "We'd kill each other!" when Laurie proposed. They wouldn't have made each other happy in the long run, whereas Amy was able to give Laurie the kind of attention he really needed, and vice versa.

  • Frederick already has gray hair. How come Jo gets him. Isnt she too young? But it doesnt matter! This movie is TOO wonderful to worry about that. Bravo Little Women! Bravo!!!!!!!

  • This is shit JO AND LAURIE FOREVER ♥

  • This is my favorite scene of the entire movie. It's so beautiful and romantic. I loved Jo and Friedrich together and was so happy to see them finally get together in the end. :)

  • Little Women is a fabulos movie thumbs up if you guys think so too.

  • I absolutely adore this scene, and this movie as well. It is a beautiful adaptation and one of my favorite movies.

  • Anybody know the name of the musical piece at the end of the scene?

  • I love the look after Jo says: "I'm not married"...

  • i love Gabe Byrne but a little part of my soul dies every time i watch this scene. because as much as i like Jo and Freidrich together, i've always been a fan of Laurie and Jo :(

  • Oh, I absolutely adore this movie! ♥

  • i love so much about this movie- the music is magical, the scenery is beautiful, and the acting is superb.

  • Winona is such a great actress, I wish she would make more movies

  • This is my favorite movie :-) Titanic runs second..hahaha

  • U Star Novels has a personalized book version of Little Women where you can star in the story

  • awwww shoot this gets me every time :)

  • My favorite part in this scene:

Freidrich: But I have nothing to give you my hands are empty.

(she takes hold of his hand)

    Jo: Not empty now.

    Sweet! :)

  • @jessicalea It's even better in the book. :D

"Ah! Thou gifest me such hope and courage, and I haf nothing to gif back but a full heart and these empty hands," cried the Professor, quite overcome.

Jo never, never would learn to be proper, for when he said that as they stood upon the steps, she just put both her hands into his, whispering tenderly, "Not empty now," and, stooping down, kissed her Friedrich under the umbrella. :D

  • Winona should have gone on trial for stealing thousands of HEARTS. She is absolutely adored.

  • This certainly solidifed Winona Ryder for me as the movie star of the 1990s, the Marilyn Monroe of Generation X, the face of the decade... et al! In short - Winona Forever!

  • Jo and Fried make a hot couple. so do Amy and Laurie. Just my opinion. Love how it ended . Just wonder if Laurie really love's Amy.

  • what a beautiful ending! i cant help but keep watching it over and over again. winona does such a wonderful job throughout this whole movie; she shouldve gotten the oscar that year!

  • i always cry during this scene

  • i love that german accent of his !

  • They're soulmates; made for each other <3

  • people go on and on about how Laurie was perfect for Jo, but Friedrich was no slouch either! plus, Gabriel Byrne is super hot!

  • @deibeeI LOVE Cristian BAle as Laurie, and i have to confess when I was little and i read the book I always wanted him to end with Jo, but alter looking at GABRIEL....I mean OMG...in this movie Cristian was hot and cute, but Gabriel is A MAN an HOT and HANDSOME...just perfect for Jo

  • I'm always so jealous of Winona's characters in films. Edward Scissorhands, Mermaids - Little Women especially. I love it when Jo and Friedrich end up together :') Makes me cry a little every time.

  • I love Little Women; my favorite book since my childhood. I love Jo, I love all March sisters... and I always wanted Laurie for Jo. But Friedrich is really lovely too.

So... I love this film. It always make me cry.

  • oh Gabriel Byrne~

  • Wonderful movie; saw it night it came out (my family always went to movies Christmas night ) Always will be a favorite

  • This is absolutely the best ending for a movie ever.

  • I remember wanting jo and laurie together as a kid. but i guess it all worked out in the end :)

  • Laurie , and Professor. Jo was the girl I have been admiring since teenage.

  • why joe is not with laurie..:((((

  • Breathtaking...I love this movie!!!

  • friedrich is the only true husband for jo - teddy just doesn´t fit!!! ;-)

  • Oh I love the ending of this movie... Finally Jo & Friedrich together! Yippie!!!

Although I liked all the performances in the movie... I absolutely adore Gabriel Byrnes one ;) A great actor & what a hunk! ;)

  • This was on Encore Drama today! Love this movie! ^_^

  • I always hated Winona Ryder, but in this she was just superb--Jo to a "t"--fresh, natural, and a fantastic actress. they all were. Byrne's great, too--he nailed the accent to the wall.

  • @marginallymental I know exactly what you mean. I watched her in "The Crucible" as Abigail, and I hated her so freakin' much after that! But then I watched Little Woman, and I couldn't believe I started liking her again so much. She did so brilliant in this movie, the emotion in her face at the end was simply spectacular and heartwarming :)

  • it really is i watched it for the first time last week it was on tv and i gave it a chance and fell in love with it!!!!!!! the 1949 is by far the best

  • never heard of this movie before, but I like the ending, when I can catch it on, I will watch it.

Gabriel Byrnes is a good actor, and Iike the look of this film.

  • I love the look on her face just after she tells him she's not married.

  • Gabriel Byrne is gorgeous.

  • yeah and so is Rosie O Donald *rolls eyes*

  • It has Gabriel Byrne in this movie, I also saw him in Ghost Ship (2002).

  • this is such a wonderful movie! the acting is great, the scenery is gorgeous, and the beautiful music really helps to make the movie. so good!

  • How could you not fall in love with this woman as played by Winona Ryder? I think it would be impossible.

  • I like the music at the end credits.

  • love is a mystery!

  • i love it!

  • Truly this movies' ending is one of the most heartwarming ending I've seen in years when I first seen the movie--and the only regret I have when I seen the movie is that I did not see it on the Big Screen.1:24 strikes me momentarily as when Scarllett( Vivien Leigh) as running toward home (in the fog) to see Rhett. The ending brings tears of joys and romantic moment to the heart.

    Thanks for sharing

  • only goes ta show ya dont have to be young old you can still fall in love

  • sorry to burst your bubbles but i think while your sentiments are lovely, the spelling was definitely wrong (especially since it is for a renowned personality)... but Alcott's work and the film is the point here so just enjoy the clip instead.

  • @bigfanguy just saw this & although i hate involvement in petty matters, with people who don't have knowledge enough to make "informed" statements- - ill still ask - what makes u think he wouldn't have? as an editor, ive seen the most well read personalities make mistakes in pronunciation and spelling and be humble enough to admit it when its pointed out.

also again ill add shouldn't this be about Alcott not Gandhi?

  • @artisticallystreaked .....when you write the words "I'll" or "I've" you use a capital "I" not a small 'i'. Are you humble enough to admit it? Maybe you need to up your knowledge with spelling correctly....and your an editor? Not to be petty but also when you write the word 'you' you use the whole word not the letter 'u'. Well, that is the correct way anyhow. (Texting doesn't count.)

  • @MrBigfanguy lol! ironic! but yes, actually yes i will. :) apologies to anyone who found it jarring. while chatting my friends call me a typo misfit. but -all said and done, professionally or otherwise i don't get names wrong. if i ever do, i issue an apology or retraction - not sulk.

And yes i am an editor & publisher - u wouldn't be quite so smug if i elaborated.

word restrictions prohibit expanding this post but do note that there shall be no further correspondence from me on this matter.

  • @artisticallystreaked Oh...you spelt GHANDI wrong.....(not to be petty though)lol

  • @bigfanguy ok so i take back my earlier statement to not respond and will give you some advice -You really shouldn't argue about GANDHI with an Indian.

Unless of course you are a history buff or a graduate student or maybe a doctorate? Is so then perhaps India needs to rewrite its history books to suit your spelling? His family might not appreciate it though. Perhaps Sir Richard Attenborough would be more obliging?

  • They really combined alot of chapters together in this movie from what i've seen. But i guess it's better than just discarding them like other movies do. I just finished the book and can't to see the movie.

  • cooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool

  • Winona has been through a lot in her career and personally. But in this film she carries the entire story - just like a movie star. A terrific performance.

  • Most of those charming men were left behind in the 19th century.

  • That's so romantic :)

  • Will you have me?..

    My God, how very sweet!

  • Please don't go so far away.

    soo cute!

    This is a great film

  • i have nothing to give you my hands are emptey!

    not empty now!!

that part is my fav its so sweeT!!

  • There's a gorgeous interview with Winona in the latest Empire - check it out!

  • It's SO romantic how instead of "I want to have you," he says "Will you have me?"

  • "Fox or...Bear." LOL

  • Amo a Gabriel Byrne, es tan dulce y sexy

  • I LOVE it when they kiss! Aw, his accent is so cute :)

  • I Love Professer Bhaer.

He Is So Charming And He It Quite Good Looking i love the part where he says "Jo Such A Little Name For Such A Person. Will You Have Me?" I LOVE IT

  • It's interesting, when this came out I was 10 and thought Frederick was old, not too good-looking and boring. I thought (and still do) that Laurie was cute and exciting. But now that I'm 25 and have seen the movie once a year since then (15 or more times!) I find Frederick more attractive and likeable, and understand her decision more. Part of me still wishes she had married Laurie, but it's a very happy ending to a wonderful movie!

  • Sean Penn is such a good actor! For those who talk about this Professor Bhaer being ugly they should read the book, there's a REAL contrast!

  • I really love how he says his hands are empty and she holds them and says they're not empty now. That is such a beautiful scene. Are there women who are really like that?

  • there are. the question is, are there men who are really like that? ;)

But today it's all so much about the own profit. So many just want to have a boy/girlfriend just for the sake of having one and not for the sake of that person. but maybe that was already in the past, just that people immediately married, so they just had one parnter (officially) and couldn't really date and split up, date and split up, date and split up, because that wasn't proper...

  • Freaky, you make a very good point. However, if you believe there are women like that, I must conclude that there are indeed men like that, because I do not believe one sex can have an exclusive hold on a particular personality type. I do believe that traits shown here by these two people are rare though.

  • Yes, that's also a good point, you're completely right, I think.

  • Here is the rub. I was wondering myself where men like that are? Where do they live and why they seem to live so far?

  • Oh!! there are men like that.. everywhere... it's just that you don't see them.. some of them are the ones people wouldn't bother to take a second look at...

  • wise laday. or gentleman

  • I've come to the realization that the best way to find the "right" person, is to be willing to be the "right" person....

So yes, in search of men like that, be a lady like her....and vice versa

  • "You must be the only change you want to see in the world." Ghandi

  • um, its spelt GANDHI!

if you want to quote a great man then do please get the correct spelling of his name. :)

  • Oh, I'm so sorry. What a foolish mistake.

Thank you for correcting me. I highly approve it, but let me also pay you a compliment. Your manners are as terrible and foolish as my spelling.

  • What a wonderful scene this is. Finally true love triumphs. I have always been moved greatly by this romantic ending.

  • I m impressed of this movie!!Thank you very much!!

  • A wonderful actress and she looks amazing! I hope she will recover from this difficult period of her life. She was born to act and people forgot her and let her alone only because she stole in a store! I shoplifted when I was at school: lipstick, eyeliner,.. And other people killed, sold drug,... She was fragile but she didn't deserve that her career stopped for a silly thing. She's got a great talent and I think she's really alone now. And I think we should try to back her up and not to judge

  • amen.winona is so unique and authentic.

  • how can we help her? She is really very talanted and I think directors have to invite her and people have to see her and enjoy her talent.

  • winona is a beauty!!

  • Ohh, I love this ending sooo much, sooo romantic.

I love the part where he says 'but I have nothing to give you my hands are empty', then she takes his hand and says 'not anymore'

that's it the perfect moment all you need is love.

  • I wonder if something like what happened for Fredrick will ever happen for Me.

  • I am sure it will happen for you my friend..afterall there is someone special for everyone

    best wishes

  • i love the look/smile she gives him after she says "no, no, I'm not married"

  • watch 0.11, you can see the basket with orange flowers, while she pets the dog.

Then, 0.13 she has the basket the other side around, when she puts it down..

    Or am I mistaken??

  • same here. they are cool together, but i mean...he's....just....HE'S LAURIE!!

  • i like the professor but i'm a sucker for jo and laurie

  • i like the original better.

such a lovely movie AND book!

  • I wish I could meet and marry a hot German

  • did she marry mr. bhaer?

  • Yes, in the book they got married and had a baby.

  • They had two children actually, but they appear in the second (and third?) book, not the first.

  • Oops, I was wrong, they do appear in the first book, but not until the end.

  • I love this part and the chemestry they got. SO romantic!!!

  • i wish i lived back then!

  • *le squeeeeee*

I adore this movie, and this scene!

  • I love this ending compaired to the 1949 one.

    I wish I had a professor like him. =P

  • I love this scene.

"Jo: such a little name for...such a person"

I have to read the book.

  • It's a bit different in the book. A very similar scene [with Jo and Bhaer under an umbrella], but different dialogue. Anyhoo, it's a scene from the sequel to 'Little Women,' called [ugh] 'Good Wives.' Although I think both books are now sold as one. The movie's pretty faithful to it.

  • Oh! I love the professor too... If only there is a man for me like him. So lovely.

  • The movie goes beyond the book in terms of the atmosphere- which seems to be a rare achievement!

  • this scene was so sweet, it was more romantic in the book but i love the movie too! great cast and crew too.

  • Yes, it´s my favourite part of book, too! But I like GAbriel Byrne playing professor Bhaer.

  • This movie was really cute. I loved it. The ending feels a bit cheesy, but you can't help but like it.

    :)

  • I loved this movie, winona ryeder did an awesome job in this, I can really relate to how jo feels in the book and in the movie too, this is defintly my favorite movie.

  • I'd pick Bhaer over Laurie any day

  • why must it always rain

  • Beautiful scene!!!

  • yes. yes it WAS a beautiful scene in the BOOK!

  • i may appear to stand corrected

    but still

gabriel any day over christian bale

  • ?? Christian Bale plays Laurie. Wtf are you talking about?

  • cocojoxxx, pls listen to yourself.

  • hundreds of plp listen to you everyday? i bet they think you're a bitch, too. you were rude to the person who posted this c
