  • best film I have seen in a long time!!!!! AMAZING!!!!!!!!! What a wonderful surprise!!!! It was so brilliant!!!! Thank-you

  • dead space movie as in Alien?

  • pooooooooooooooon KING!!!!

  • i love peter but man he needs to kno how to get to the point, i swear hes as long winded as his brontosaurus chase scene in king kong, guess thats y lord of the rings turned out so good :P

  • @Zel1g050

I think because he gets to leave his hobbit-hole in NZ and interact with audiences.

  • I am glad they did just that.. DISTRICT 9 is on of the greatest movies of all time.. clever in many ways this film, for sure.

  • No, not really. There is action, but not that type of action, it isn't a war movie.

  • kinda like a cop movie...?

  • Hm. Yeah, you could say that... But maybe more of a buddy movie... Like, it's somewhere between The Office (the tv show), Black Hawk Down, Transformers and Alien Nation. If that's hard to imagine, it's best you go see the movie :-) It's excellent anyway, probably in part because it connects so many disparate influences,

  • The Office...ahaha I thought the same exact thing. So true.

  • I know I'm replying to a 3-4 week old post. But think Alien, The Terminator, The Fly, Robocop, sort of like an 80's sci-fi action-horror with some pretty violent/disgusting scenes

  • I watched the movie like 6 times by now. lol

  • @notessimodude So, should I assume you enjoyed it? :) haha

I recently got it on Blu-Ray, great movie.

  • Well the 1st time, I had to watch it with my dad, which was a bit uncomfortable, since Wikus and the other guys were saying 'fork' every 5 seconds, if you catch my drift

  • @notessimodude Funny, I don't think I've ever gone to the cinema with any parent/guardian :) but yeah I know what you mean. I've heard some people (mostly parents) were a bit worried about the level of violence in this movie, cuz there's a lot

  • Oh, well, my dad was ok with people busting like watermelons...

  • hehe :) well, sometimes it's quite funny, especially that guy in the tower in the end, Wikus is in the alien robot suit and pops him and the guy just rains down in red pieces

  • lol and that guy shouted something like he was about to actually do some damage... lol

  • Yeah, he was getting all ready to smite down Wikus in an armed robosuit XD what was he thinking? ahhh, good times, good times.Lol I'm being awkward. Come to think of it, I think Neill Blomkamp should make a Dead Space movie, or something similar, just more with Neill's gritty style. I'm probably taking this too far but imagine if Neill and David Cronenberg collaborated. It could be gruesomely good :)

  • Gears of War movie. :)

  • that could be fun :)

  • That would be more bloody than District 9. District 9 was, when you look at it closely, simply people busting. But no... Gears of War wouldn't take out the body parts. They would simply cut them right down the middle with the chainsaw on the Lancer MG.

  • @notessimodude yeah, haha, that would be pretty damn violent ;) but fun in a kinda mean spirited way lol

  • Almost like those moments where a dude randomly kicks you in your balls and you all laugh at it... until 3 seconds later....

  • @notessimodude haha, :) ouch

  • Yes a war between the soul of humans and corporatism/fear. The humans lose.

  • ...looks like it took "hellauva-a-lot" of making, to create this movie. it looked believable. Both thumbs up for this one, wonder if they'll make a sequal, i hope they do!!!

  • When I watched DIstrict 9.. It reminded me so much of the short film they did for halo 3, Where it has "finish the fight" at the end. District 9 was fuckin sick !!! awesome film

  • 1:40 - 1:43

  • Compared to District 9,

A Halo movie would really stand no chance...

    Or would it?

  • I think it would be great if it's made by the same director and producer who have such great imagination and ideas.

  • If a Halo movie is done, I want it rated R, enough with these studio choices of making movies PG-13 or lower to expand and provide a larger based audience

  • thats quite a shame, cause im 14 and id really like to see a halo movie, ive been checkin up on it, and im a halo fan i like to play everynow and a again a 15 i wouldnt mind, an 18 i can get on dvd done it many times, im not gonna down your comment though i get you idea.

  • well actually the studio doesn't "choose" whether or not the movie gets rated R or PG- 13 unless they purposely throw in large amounts of gore, violence, and language. But if Halo ever does make its way on the big screen it will most likely be an R movie because you cant have a marine die and not see any form of blood.

  • They might not have an direct effect on what the movie is rated but there are pre-production meetings where they eventually talk about it, the studio is pouring high amounts of money unto a specific film its only safe to assume that they're in it to hoard it, with a PG-13 film they can seek to broaden the age range further thus earning high amounts in the process. There have been cases where the director and hopeful production teams held progress due to stress on film rating or film problems.

  • I think a Halo movie, well, even though I'm a Halo fan, I'm nervous about them making a film of it...

  • Im not i would have been but after seeing D9 i have no doubts they would pull it off.

  • same here but to make a halo move it would have to be a trilogy and each movie must last at least 3 hours long with great story telling and flow otherwise it'll be a cheap budget disappointment

  • speilburg should stop making movies. they all turn out the same. sure, ET and shit, that was all great, then. now he is just selling out and taking the path to get the most money out of things without making a good movie. speilburg is dead to me. neill blomkamp was the perfect choice for the halo project.

  • truly epic, i like how Neill wanted to make science fiction have a realistic feel, awesome movie

  • At least if Halo was made into a film they can't fuck it up. But if Neil and Pete did it, it would be epic win. Neil knows his games, he directed those halo shorts when Halo 3 was released.

  • Sharlto was awesome! I had expected him to be some big star in South Africa or something when I saw the movie!

  • Yes they are going to get Halo out. I'm pretty sure that Steven Spielberg is going to direct this film.

  • Christ, that's a recipe for disaster.

He'll probably get Michael Bay to direct it. I can see it now: there'll be Sprite logos on the side of a Scarab made by GMC. Shia Lebouf will be the Chief, and that cunty bitch Megan Fox will be Cortana. Christ, please don't let this happen.

Here's hoping District 9 sparks Bungie's interest again. Maybe Blomkamp will be helming that project after all.

  • halo is being done by Steven Spielberg

    so its in good hands

  • That's just a rumor. He's already doing Ghost in the Shell.

and I think Blomkamp would still do Halo better than Spielberg. Can't you just see the Covenant blowing up Spartans with energy guns? And what if the camera work was docuentary style? And the story would make you feel sympathy for both human and alien characters.

While I like Spielberg, I think his films are a little to on the touchy-feely side for Halo. Plus he's not as well versed in the efficient use of CGI as younger filmmakers.

  • LOL Spielberg is the best at using CGI.. The hell are you talking about?

  • I don't know...

I like the look of Jackson or Cameron's stuff better. And in the case of Jackson, he makes sure the effects are used to tell the story.

Plus, with the exception of Munich, his last couple of films have shown he's getting less and less interested in directing.

  • The T-rex in the first Jurassic Park (one of the first tests of CGI used for realism) looks 100X more realistic than the T-rex in King Kong that was made 10 yrs later. Most of it is because Spielberg thought that making it look real was more important than getting the shot done even if the lighting needs to be dim or whatever other directing trick you might have to use to get it perfect. Jackson has more of a George Lucas school of thought on CGI (doesnt have to be perfect)

  • dude, screw the sfx. I still feel he's not going to direct it.

Mostly because I think he would think it's a redundant project. He's done sci-fi. He's done aliens three times. He's done epic wars films.

In short, I think he's not looking forward to making a sci-fi Private Ryan.

The only reason he'd make it is for the money. And in that case, he can produce and get some other director to make Halo. That way, we'll make more cash that way.

  • I kinda doubt he'll make it too mostly because it seems like it would be below where he's at now... Seems like he's more interested in Oscars than making Michael Bay type movies these days

  • yeah...

thats why he's produced the two Transformers movies Bay directed...

And are you comparing Halo to Transformers? Really? Does the video gam franchise about a massive intergalactic war between mankind, an alien empire, and a sentient virus really compare to the franchise about sentient machines that are really aliens that can transform into cars?

  • Producing isn't the same thing as directing and yes I'd go so far as to say that Transformers probably has a more original premise since transforming vehicles has been done a lot less often than soldiers battling aliens. Tons of b movies from the 30's-60's, the second Aliens movie, Starship Troopers, probably tons of kids television shows & straight to DVD movies, abandoned scifi channel tv series pilots... Not that I don't love alien military movies but it's a good comparison

  • Aliens turning people into zombies or parasites infecting and taking over humans is also one of the most generic concepts ever.... Pod People, Plan 9 from Outer Space... Body Snatchers.. I could make a 100 movie long list if I had time... Im very glad they made D9 instead

  • yeah, but I like how they put a spin on the Flood. The fact that the Forerunners built the halos as a way to eliminate them was a great concept.

And the concept of the forerunners and their advanced, ancient technology interconnecting the entire story hadn't been used so effectively in sci-fi since the 30s.

Yeah. Maybe it is best they made District 9 instead. It was an awesome movie, wasn't it?

That said, maybe Halo should never get made into a film. I don't know.

  • "ancient technology interconnecting the entire story hadn't been used so effectively in sci-fi since the 30s."

The Halo creators even felt reluctant to call it Halo & use the ring structure instead of a hollow planet because they said they felt like they were ripping off Ringworld by Larry Niven...

I also think Babylon 5 and 2001: A Space Odyssey did better ancient technology but that's me lol

  • ooh, good point.

Seriously, no offense, but can we call it quits with the back and forth comments here? I don't think we're ever going to agree whether or not Spielberg is the right way for the film project to go. Plus, I think we're well off the beaten path if we're bringing in Niven and Ringworld and not about filmmakers.

It was good talking to you.

  • plus, an article from a week ago stated that the film is still on hold. It means Bungie's not in a position to develop any film.

I'm not saying a film DIRECTED by spielberg would be horrible, but I feel they'd have some of the weaknesses his earlier films had. Like making death scenes a bit too sappy or have Master Chief break down and cry if Cortana gets lost.

So yeah. I still think someone other than him could direct it much better.

  • Great panel!

  • wen r they gonna get halo out!

  • ha ha I love how everyone boos when he says how Halo dropped dead due to studio politics

  • that was like a couple people, not everyone

  • every one?? you mean one person

  • I was at this panel it was great!

  • isn't the guy who is talking at 6:58 looking like Michael Bay?

  • Thanks so much for posting this! =] Is the film footage cut-out for copyright reasons? I'd love to see it lol.

  • it's probably cut out because from what i've heard you aren't allowed to video tape at certain times of a panel, showing exclusive film footage being one of them

  • Correct. Anyone caught recording film footage was immediately expelled from not only the panel, but all of Comic-Con. The are major copyright issues with recording from the on-screen film footage.

  • lol. is it just me or does it look like a guy is carrying a sword around with him? 5:05

  • Probably was! Lots of fake swords, guns, axes, and other weaponry always get hefted around Comic-Con by fans. Usually as part of a costume.

  • infuzerobobin, thanks for posting these!!

  • what's with all the people walking? ??

  • they let us into the panel WAY late so the people are just coming in
