Saw him this past weekend in Minneapolis. Insane what he can do live with this kind of music. The visuals were equally amazing. I thought this more electric sound wouldn't work live, but it did. He opened with Seven Swans, then played 6-8 of his new songs, including the 25 minute version of Impossible Soul! Then he finished with Chicago, and played three older songs for his encore. Good stuff.
@starcraft108 She's from St. Vincent, her name is Annie Clark. She was one of Sufjan's bigger discoveries, and she was a backer for the Polyphonic Spree. On the album, the part is done by Shara Worden from My Brightest Diamond, who was an Illinoisemaker and a Sufjan find. He has a ridiculous ear for good music, and everyone should check out DM Stith, his prodigy.
I am so jealous that I left Ithaca to go to Hope College (Sufjan's alma mater) and then he heads to I-town! Awesome video, and I am extremely jealous!!!
I just saw him on thursday. It was wonderful. He is amazing, probably my favorite singer/songwriter. And he is a gorgeous man and super nice! This song kills me.
It's taken a while for these new songs to hook me but they are taking hold at last. The greatest songwriter of his generation should have made a bird album a couple of years ago; let's hope these new gems do not suffer the same fate. Please make a new record for the greater good, and we'll all promise to buy it.
Yeah, I too hope these songs find a home. They deserve a better audience than live concerts and bad Youtube playbacks. The fact that he still plays Majesty Snowbird at concerts makes me hopeful that he will put it on an album.
He is amazing and has so much material- PLEASE LET US SHARE IT!!!
Majesty Snowbird is one of a string of unreleased bird-themed masterpieces. I also adore Barn Owl Night Killer and The Lord God Bird. The interview with Shannon Stephens seems to suggest that he has doubts about the worth of official releases in this era of white noise. I wonder if he is releasing the BQE to test the water, to see if there is interest enough before commencing labour on the next proper album.
I think he's played it at every show so far... but I'm not sure. I have a video of it on my page though, if you can excuse to excruciatingly bad sound quality =/
I saw the "theres too much love" video like the day after you put it up, and then I came back to it and saw there were 30,000 views and then later saw it was featured on pitchfork. Congrats, and thanks for these :) I saw him myself in Pontiac and took some videos but I was right in front of the speakers so my sound is pretty terrible.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
This is about to be massively lame, but I've decided to call you out: I linked to the "There's too much to love" video from Pitchfork and the view count was like 300. Don't lie to try to be different, you noob. Not even on the fucking internet.
What? I'm not trying to be anything... I've been stalking his whole tour. It's totally possible my numbers were off, if anything it was more of a congratulations, that this person's video was featured on there. I could care less about when I saw it.
Oops. My previous post was meant to say Holy Cow! I guess that's how shocked I was by this piece. I can't wait to hear what this sounds like in a studio version.
holy shit, does anybody know what effect pedal he's using for that solo at 2:15? kinda sounds like a kaoss pad.
